Miranda stood straight with one hand behind her back as she said, "Excellent. Now that you have the Ring of the Cross, I would like to introduce you to the exclusive house elf of the Cross lineage. She has served as the house elf of House Cross since the very founding of the magical principles that help govern this world — principles that the Cross family helped establish."
She looked at Raven and added smoothly, "Her name is Double Bubble. Middle name, Boiling. Last name, Trouble."
There was a light cracking sound in the air as a figure appeared beside Miranda. She looked nothing like the ugly, shriveled house elves Raven remembered from the books. This one had pink hair tied in a ribbon on top of her head and looked like a six-year-old girl dressed in a soft blue dress with silver stars stitched across the chest, frilly sleeves, and a glittering silver-blue skirt. She bowed her head and said, "You must be Raven Cross, the newest master of the Cross lineage. I am Double Bubble, Boiling Trouble."
Raven stared for a long moment, then slowly turned towards Miranda. "Are you serious right now? Double Bubble, Boiling Trouble?"
Miranda's tone was completely calm. "I'm very serious right now. That's her name. Where do you think that nursery rhyme came from?"
Still blinking, Raven glanced back to the elf. "All right then. Where did that nursery rhyme come from?"
Miranda smiled faintly. "Would you like a demonstration of Double Bubble, Boiling Trouble's power?"
Raven reached down and picked up a donut from the table beside her. She took a slow bite, her tone amused but even. "Okay. Let me see it. If her combat abilities can't impress me, Miranda, there's no way she's keeping that name."
Miranda raised her hand and snapped her fingers. The ground trembled as eight large stone golems erupted upwards, standing like silent guardians as they finished forming. Miranda turned towards the house elf. "Double Bubble, why don't you show Raven Cross what you can do?"
The house elf stepped forward and gave a graceful curtsy. "It would be my pleasure." Then she whispered, "Double Bubble is ready to cause some trouble."
With no warning, she flew upwards. Wind curled behind her as she soared into the air and rocketed towards the closest two golems. Both fists extended, she struck them with a brutal impact — as the golems exploded into massive chunks of stone.
In the same breath, she spun in mid-air and launched herself toward's a third golem, propelling herself forwards like a torpedo.
Raven watched with a faint lift of her eyebrows. "She can fly."
Miranda nodded. "Oh yeah, she can fly. She's not just a house elf. She's a combat-trained house elf."
She folded her arms, her voice cool. "And don't be mistaken, Raven. When you go to Hogwarts, they're going to talk about how house elves are enslaved and miserable servants to the various wizard families of England. But don't be fooled. Double Bubble, Boiling Trouble, is no slave. She chooses to serve the Cross lineage willingly. It's a sign of prestige for her, particularly among her reclusive elf race. She's a separate species from regular house elves a cutie above the rest."
Another golem burst apart as Double Bubble tore through its chest, sending stone flying in every direction. As she emerged from the rubble, she twirled 360 degrees and pulled out a tiny wand, barely four inches long. She tapped the air three times.
"Pop. Pop. Pop."
Three more golems detonated into dust and boulders.
Facing the final two golems, she stopped in the air and said sweetly, "Double Bubble will show you why she's Boiling Trouble."
She raised her wand to her lips and blew gently.
Two pink bubbles floated outwar6d. They shimmered and bounced softly as they approached the last two golems. Then — with no sign of resistance — the golems were sucked into the bubbles, distorted by the magical membrane, and popped out of existence with a soundless burst.
Double Bubble floated back to the ground, landing lightly on her feet in front of Raven. "What do you think, Lady Raven?"
Raven exhaled and crossed her arms. "I can't help but be impressed. I've never seen anyone turn bubbles into a lethal fighting magical art." She nodded once. "I withdraw my challenge to your name. You truly deserve the name Double Bubble, Boiling Trouble. Now I can see why they made nursery rhymes to terrify children with your name."
Double Bubble waved a small hand. "Those troublemakers. When they saw me heckling some of those kids for making fun of my name, I taught them a little lesson by imprisoning them in bubbles for a couple of days." Her voice turned slightly huffy. "And just because I terrified a couple of those little wizard bastards, I get nursery rhymes defaming my name."
She placed both hands on her hips, looking frustrated. "I'm so mad about that, but there's nothing I could do. By the time those kids were released and I waited a few days, the rumors already spread all over the world. If I ever catch the culprits who did that…" She trailed off. "But I've punished too many wicked wizards over the years to seriously care"
Miranda stepped forward, her voice more solemn. "Actually, Double Bubble specializes in subduing and capturing dark wizards. In your absence over the last few centuries, she's taken on extremely deadly tasks involving dark wizards who posed a threat to the global magical community."
Her eyes shifted toward the elf. "Now that you're here, she can assist you rather than carrying that burden alone. She's suffered many injuries over the years and has spent a long time recuperating here. She's emerged successful, but even fighting Dementors would be a challenge for her now."
Raven laughed quietly. "All right. But I'm just going to call you Bubbles."
The house elf smiled happily. "Fine. You can just call me Bubbles."
Miranda gave a subtle nod. "Excellent. I'm glad you two are getting along fine."
