The giant Onix's face was covered in crisscrossing scars, like ancient markings carved into stone, making it look even more ferocious.
Wartortle's heart pounded in its chest as it stared wide-eyed at the towering opponent.
It had never seen such a massive Pokémon before.
The Onix's head alone was almost larger than its entire body.
It was even more ridiculous than the time Gastly transformed into its combined final evolution.
Wartortle began to doubt whether its sturdy shell could really withstand a single blow from that enormous tail.
"Ash, do you need help?" Brock asked worriedly.
When they first saw the giant Onix, they hadn't fully grasped its scale. But now, comparing it to Gyarados, its size was truly outrageous.
"Let's see if they can handle it first," Ash said.
He wanted to test their strength.
If they couldn't win, Pikachu could always finish the fight.
"Rain Dance!"
"Gyarados, calm that Onix down—Water Gun!"
"Wartortle, Aqua Tail!"
First, Ash used rain to boost the power of Water-type moves.
A massive blast of water erupted from Gyarados's vicious jaws, roaring forward with tremendous force toward the giant Onix.
Both Gyarados and Wartortle were holding Mystic Water, an item that boosts the power of Water-type moves by 20%.
Their Water attacks were now significantly stronger.
If Water Gun and Aqua Tail both landed on a Pokémon with a 4× Water weakness, it might not instantly defeat Onix—but it would certainly cut its stamina in half.
Wartortle rushed forward, swinging its glowing tail directly at Onix's head.
BANG!
A dull impact echoed across the valley as the giant Onix's massive body slammed heavily against the ground.
The earth trembled.
Even from far away, Ash and the others felt the ground shaking.
ROOOOAR!
A thunderous roar tore through the valley.
The giant Onix rose from the ground like a mountain awakening.
Its eyes burned with fury as it glared at the two attackers.
It had already been suffering because a Sandslash was stuck inside its body, and now these two little Pokémon dared to provoke it?
Fine.
It would teach them a lesson.
The giant Onix swung its enormous tail toward them.
"Careful! Onix has extremely high defense—it's very tough!" Bruno warned from the side.
After seeing Gyarados and Wartortle land attacks, he realized they actually had a real chance of defeating it.
"Wartortle, jump and use Rapid Spin to land on its head!"
"Gyarados, keep using Water Gun!"
Gyarados had trained its Water Gun extensively. It might miss agile targets—
But against something this huge, it would hit even with its eyes closed.
Wartortle successfully dodged the sweeping tail and landed firmly on Onix's massive head, grabbing onto its stone horn.
At the same time, Gyarados fired another powerful Water Gun that struck Onix directly.

Wartortle's tail surged with water energy and slammed directly into Onix's skull.
But the giant Onix retaliated.
With a brutal sweep of its tail, it struck Gyarados.
The impact sent Gyarados flying.
A stone pillar shattered into dust when its body collided with it, and Gyarados slammed violently into a cliff wall.
After a moment, Gyarados slid down from the wall, its body covered in injuries.
That tail attack had incredible power.
Even such a simple, raw strike carried terrifying strength.
This giant Onix was definitely not just impressive in appearance.
The spectators watched in shock.
"Finish it—Water Gun!"
Already weakened by the Sandslash trapped inside its body, the giant Onix could barely endure another attack.
With unwilling fury in its eyes, it glared at Gyarados.
BOOM!
The final Water Gun struck.
Onix let out a final roar and collapsed heavily to the ground, sending stones scattering everywhere.
Ash pulled Misty along as they rushed down into the pit.
He planned to help remove the Sandslash stuck inside Onix.
"Are you two okay?" Ash asked.
He gently patted Wartortle and Gyarados before spraying them with Super Potion.
"Pika…"
Pikachu jumped down and comforted the two injured Pokémon.
After treating them, Ash turned toward the giant Onix.
It hadn't completely lost the ability to battle.
Its eyes were half-closed as it breathed heavily.
Using his psychic powers, Ash communicated with Onix and helped remove the Sandslash trapped inside its body.
It took considerable effort.
The Sandslash had been wedged tightly inside, its body covered in injuries.
"That's awful…" Brock said sympathetically as he looked at the battered Sandslash.
Honestly, the Sandslash looked even worse.
Ash sprayed Super Potion on the injured Pokémon as well.
Once it had recovered enough, he let it leave.
When Ash turned around to look for Bruno, he realized the Elite Four member had already left.
"Master Bruno said that after seeing you relieve Onix's pain, he believes a careful trainer like you is the right person to capture it," Brock explained.
"And he also said he hopes to battle you someday."
Ash nodded.
After treating the giant Onix's wounds, he took out a Poké Ball.
The weakened giant Onix was drawn inside.
