After training with his Pokémon in Professor Oak's backyard for half a day, Ash returned home before dinner. To his surprise, he found Mr. Mime already staying there.
He had originally planned to go to Mt. Miyacha( the mountains near Pallet Town) the next day and catch a Mr. Mime along the way. But now things worked out just like in the anime—the Pokémon had come to his house on its own, saving him the trouble of searching.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Ash decided to catch Mr. Mime and let it stay at home to help with household chores.
Understanding Ash's intentions, Mr. Mime politely greeted Delia.
Delia smiled warmly in response. After traveling for so long, Ash had clearly matured a lot.
He had helped his teacher, Professor Oak, collect Pokémon data, done many good deeds, and never once asked his family for travel expenses. In fact, he even sent money home from time to time.
Professor Oak had also praised Ash, saying he had helped record data on many rare Pokémon.
Ash had earned quite a lot of League prize money from Gym challenges, occasionally mailing back perfume and supplements, and he had even bought a car.
The family's living situation had improved tremendously. Now he had even thoughtfully arranged for Mr. Mime to help with housework.
And on top of that, he had found himself a girlfriend.
Ash had really grown up.
Delia sighed with emotion as she thought about the changes in her son.
However, Ash had another goal.
He needed to reach Mt. Miyacha before Elite Four Bruno and find the giant Onix there.
Gary and Professor Oak also came over for dinner, chatting about various amusing things from daily life.
Gary, of course, couldn't resist throwing a few sarcastic remarks at Ash.
When Professor Oak asked about their training plans for the Indigo Conference, he offered them a suggestion.
"Elite Four Bruno is currently training in the hills near Pallet Town. You could go ask him for advice."
Gary immediately refused, saying he already had his own plan.
Ash, however, didn't decline. He wanted to see that giant Onix, and if possible, maybe even catch it.
So once again, Ash made up his mind:
He had to reach Mt. Miyacha before Bruno did.
"Well then, it's up to you," Professor Oak said without forcing them.
After dinner, Professor Oak reminded Ash again about Bruno. If Ash could receive guidance from an Elite Four member, it would be extremely valuable experience.
Ash grew serious.
Bruno had arrived at Mt. Miyacha very early, and facing him right now, Ash knew he had zero chance of winning.
Each member of the Elite Four possessed several Champion-level Pokémon. Even if Ash sent out all of his Pokémon one after another, he probably still wouldn't stand a chance.
Mt. Miyacha was a hill located in the Kanto region, near Pallet Town.
Originally, Bruno had come here during his travels because he heard that a gigantic Onix lived on the mountain, and he wanted to challenge it.
Meeting it would be one thing.
But Bruno was practically a humanoid Pokémon himself.
The man would literally fight the giant Onix bare-chested, wearing nothing but white training pants.
At this rate, the Elite Four were basically becoming Pokémon themselves.
Meanwhile, Ash and his friends planned to train here for the upcoming Pokémon League, and hopefully ask Bruno for guidance.
Later, during one of their independent training sessions, Jigglypuff would accidentally interfere. A misdirected attack would hit a nearby rock wall, revealing ancient ruins.
Among the shattered stones would appear an artifact called the Golden Eye.
An archaeological team working on the mountain would later take the artifact away and discover another item behind a bronze relic—a Golden Spoon.
Besides those two objects, they would also uncover clay dolls shaped like Ursaring and Psyduck.
Late at night, Team Rocket would send Arbok underground to retrieve another treasure.
What emerged were three connected black spheres, along with a giant Gengar. The black spheres would trap people inside.
At the same time, the Golden Eye and Golden Spoon in the room would react and merge into one artifact.
Then a giant Alakazam would appear, and the two ancient Pokémon would begin battling.
They originally believed Jigglypuff's song could put the giant Pokémon to sleep, but it didn't work.
However, the song triggered the bronze relic, from which a giant Jigglypuff emerged.
In the end, the enormous Pokémon were finally lulled to sleep, along with Ash and everyone else.
Lying on his bed that night, Ash thought about the trouble that would appear the next day.
They were all ancient Pokémon, and he wasn't sure if his current strength could stand against them.
If things got really bad… he might have to use the scale from the ancient Dragonite.
After all, those ancient Pokémon were from the same era. Perhaps it could even help reunite the ancient Dragonite with its companions.
Would that colossal Dragonite come here?
The Next Morning
Early in the morning, Mr. Mime woke Ash up.
After quickly finishing breakfast, Ash headed to Professor Oak's backyard to switch out his Pokémon before heading to Mt. Miyacha.
"Ash, is Master Bruno really here?" Brock asked.
They had already reached the base of Mt. Miyacha.
"That's what Professor Oak said," Ash replied.
The surroundings were strangely quiet. They couldn't hear any Pokémon sounds at all.
Brock took the lead, walking ahead. He didn't want to stay behind and watch Ash and Misty acting like a couple—it would only make him feel worse.
The mountain path twisted and turned. Along the way were several large caves, which likely belonged to Sandslash or Onix.
However, there were no signs of the giant Onix.
"Ash, my feet really hurt," Misty said softly.
"Come here. I'll massage them later when we get back," Ash replied.
Misty's cheeks immediately flushed red.
Ash himself wasn't feeling great either. The sharp rocks underfoot felt like they were about to pierce through his shoes.
"Brock, why don't you send out Onix to clear the path? It'll make walking easier."
"Onix, crush these rocks!"
Onix's efficiency was on a completely different level.
The massive Pokémon smashed through the stones as it moved forward.
Before long, the large rocks covering the ground were reduced to small gravel, making the path far easier to walk on.
Eventually, Ash and his friends finally found one of the Elite Four—the Fighting-type master, Bruno.
"That's him," Brock said.
His narrow eyes widened in shock the moment he spotted Bruno.
When they approached, Brock froze for a moment.
Bruno's physique was unbelievably massive—he looked like two Brocks stacked together.
He wore loose white training pants, his upper body completely bare. His muscles were even more exaggerated than Machamp's.
Even more outrageous—
Bruno was carrying buckets of water, walking barefoot across sharp rocks without the slightest discomfort.
Those dark, tough feet looked more dangerous than weapons.
He had seen plenty of elegant pale feet before…
But jet-black "jade feet" like these were a first.
It was truly an eye-opening experience.
At least there wasn't any strange smell. Those feet were even darker than his old mentor who begged for food in the United States.
Bruno stopped what he was doing and looked at Ash's group.
"Master Bruno, we're trainers from Pallet Town," Ash said respectfully.
"We admire you greatly. Professor Oak told us you were training here, so we came hoping to learn from you."
Ash decided the best approach was to build a good relationship first.
So he brought up Professor Oak's name, giving the Elite Four a reason to hear them out.
