Chapter 14 - Goodbye, Player 099

[CORRUPTION CORE: DESTROYED]

World corruption level: 12% → 3%

Status: Stabilizing.

Narrative structure: RECOVERING.

HIDDEN QUEST 5/5: COMPLETE.

"You destroyed the corruption, not the man it possessed."

ALL QUESTS COMPLETE.

World clear sequence initiating in: 10 minutes.

Ten minutes.

Jiang Han stared at the system message hovering in the air. The final game was over. He was leaving.

He didn't get up right away. He lay on his back, looking at the ceiling where the Golden Piggy Bank used to hang. It was just empty concrete now, stained with the burned-out husks of the corruption veins. The air smelled like ozone and burnt hair, but the heavy, crushing pressure was gone. You could breathe again.

He turned his head.

Yoon Seo was kneeling next to Ma, tearing strips off her own jacket to bind the old soldier's cracked ribs. Park was sitting against the far wall, pushing his broken, one-lensed glasses up his nose while he tried to calm down three other survivors who were curled up and openly sobbing.

Nine people alive. Out of four hundred and fifty-six.

They were just normal people. Brave, broken, desperate, and real.

In ten minutes, Jiang Han would vanish. Would they forget him? Would this world keep spinning once he left, or would it just shut off like a television screen?

For the first time since waking up in the white void, he didn't want to leave.

He forced himself up. His legs shook, his muscles screaming in protest, but he managed to stand. He had ten minutes.

He walked over to Ma first.

The soldier leaned against the curved wall, his face the color of wet ash, holding his side. When he saw Jiang Han, he forced a grim smile. "We won?"

"Your ribs will heal," Jiang Han said. "Someone will come for you."

Ma studied his face. The soldier's eyes narrowed slightly. "You're talking like you're not going to be here."

Jiang Han didn't answer. He held out his hand.

Ma looked at it for a second, then reached out and gripped it. His hand was calloused and covered in dried blood, but the grip was steady.

He moved to Park.

The accountant looked up, flinching slightly before recognizing him. "What are you going to do now?" Park asked, his voice trembling.

"You'll be fine, Park," Jiang Han said. "You're a lot braver than you think you are."

Park opened his mouth to reply, but Jiang Han was already walking away.

He stopped in front of Kang Dae.

The giant man was still kneeling on the floor, his hands buried in his hair, staring blankly at the concrete. His tracksuit was in rags. He was covered in blood, and he knew it wasn't his.

Jiang Han crouched down. He waited until Kang Dae's hollow eyes finally met his.

"When it controlled you, you killed people," Jiang Han said quietly. "But you know the truth. That wasn't entirely you."

Kang Dae stared at him. Tears cut through the dust and grime on his cheeks. He looked entirely broken.

"What you do when you get out of here is your choice," Jiang Han told him. "But you're still alive. That means you get to make one."

He stood up and turned around.

Yoon Seo was standing right behind him.

"Where are you going?" she asked. Her voice was sharp, but there was a tremor underneath it. "The police will be coming, or whoever cleans this up. We have to—"

Jiang Han stopped. He didn't turn back to look at her.

"Yoon Seo. Your brother's operation. Use the prize money for it. The money is drenched in blood, but your brother doesn't need to know that."

She frowned, stepping closer. "What are you talking about? The game was ruined by those monsters. What prize money?"

Jiang Han knew. If Player 001 was the creator, he wouldn't let his grand design collapse without leaving a final settlement. He believed in the old man's twisted sense of honor.

"Trust me. It'll be there."

Yoon Seo stepped around him, forcing him to look at her. Her dark eyes searched his face.

"You're not a normal person," she said. "You never were. I don't know what your 'prophetic dreams' really are... but thank you."

She hesitated for a fraction of a second. Then she stepped forward and hugged him.

It was a brief, tight hold. A collision of exhaustion and survival. Then she let go.

Jiang Han blinked, surprised by the sudden warmth. He looked at her and offered a small, tired smile.

"Take care of yourself, Yoon Seo."

The system timer hit zero.

Jiang Han's body began to turn translucent. It started at his hands, the edges of his fingers dissolving into particles of white light that floated upward.

Yoon Seo gasped. She reached out to grab his arm, but her fingers passed cleanly through his sleeve.

"099!" Her eyes went wide with panic. "You—you're disappearing!"

Jiang Han looked down at his fading hands. "Told you. Not a normal person."

The others saw it too. Park stood up, his jaw dropping. Ma stared from the wall, entirely silent. Thirty meters away, a man was dissolving into light.

Just before his vision faded to white, Jiang Han noticed a silhouette standing at the entrance to the arena. It was Player 001. The old man stood in the shadows, watching him from a distance.

He gave Jiang Han a slow, brief nod. His lips moved, forming a sentence.

Jiang Han couldn't hear the words. The white light rushed up, swallowing his vision, swallowing the arena, swallowing the world.

---

Silence.

Pure white void. He was floating again.

The system settlement panel materialized in the air in front of him.

Jiang Han exhaled a long breath. The physical exhaustion of the final battle was completely gone. His body felt light, perfectly rested, entirely whole. He looked at the numbers. 1,880 NP. He didn't know what it could buy yet, but it felt like a solid starting capital.

The panel shifted, replacing the settlement data with a new prompt.

[NEXT WORLD OPTIONS]

Option A: Train to Busan (Difficulty D+)

Type: Zombie Apocalypse Survival.

Corruption Base Level: 8%

System Note: Recommended for physical survival training.

Option B: Death Note (Difficulty D+)

Type: Psychological Thriller.

Corruption Base Level: 15%

System Note: Recommended for mental/strategic training.

Jiang Han stared at the two choices.

Death Note suited him better. It was a battle of wits, a chess match where his analytical brain would be his greatest weapon. Train to Busan was a meat grinder.

But he thought about Kang Dae's fist rushing toward his face. He thought about the final two minutes in the arena, where his intelligence hadn't mattered at all because a monster simply out-muscled him. If the system hadn't triggered the emergency physical boost, he would have died against that wall.

He couldn't rely solely on being smart. Not when the corruption liked to bend the rules of physics. He needed to learn how to survive when the plan failed and the only thing left to do was swing a pipe.

He made his choice.

"Option A. Train to Busan."

[SELECTION CONFIRMED. PREPARING TRANSFER.]

A final warning flashed across the screen in red text.

SYSTEM NOTE:

In Train to Busan, the 'Temporary Copy' function will be available.

You will be able to copy the peak physical attributes of humans you observe.

However, a reminder:

These are still normal humans. Their limits are your limits.

The world after this one will not be so kind.

Prepare yourself.

What comes next... has teeth.

Jiang Han read the final sentence twice. C-level worlds. Giants. Magic. Things that couldn't be killed with a steel pipe.

He closed his eyes.

The white light swallowed him again.
