Chapter 30 - Chapter 29: The Exchange

The forest felt different.

Heavier.

Watching.

Lucas walked in front.

Fast.

Focused.

No jokes this time.

Behind him—

Eva, Zoe, Lana, Julien, and Velik followed.

All alert.

All ready.

Zoe slowed slightly.

"…They're close."

Lucas cracked his knuckles.

"Good."

A few steps more—

And then—

They saw them.

Aeron.

Standing still.

Calm.

Nora beside him.

Not tied.

Not hurt.

But not free either.

And next to them—

Finn.

Silent.

Watching everything.

The moment both groups faced each other—

The air tightened.

Lucas stepped forward first.

No hesitation.

"…So."

A pause.

Cold smile.

"Return that little wolf back."

Nora rolled her eyes slightly.

"Really? That's how you start?"

Aeron didn't react.

"No."

Simple.

Direct.

Lucas's smile didn't fade.

"…Yeah?"

A pause.

"Then we've got a problem."

Finn's eyes shifted.

Scanning the group.

"Zoe is not here."

Everyone paused.

Lucas smirked slightly.

"Yeah."

A pause.

"Not everyone shows their cards."

Finn's gaze sharpened.

"Why?"

Lucas took one step forward.

Slow.

Confident.

"Because…"

A pause.

"…we've got something you want."

Silence dropped.

Finn looked at Aeron.

Then back at Lucas.

"What?"

Aeron answered before Lucas could.

"You have Exuma."

The forest went completely still.

Lucas's smile widened.

"Yep."

A pause.

"We do."

Finn took a step forward.

For the first time—

Emotion.

"Where is she?"

Lucas didn't answer directly.

Instead—

He leaned slightly closer.

Voice lower.

"If you don't give Nora back…"

A pause.

"…we bury her deeper than you were."

Silence exploded.

Zoe stepped slightly forward now—

Calm.

But ready.

Finn's control slipped—

Just a little.

"…No."

His voice wasn't empty anymore.

It had something else.

Fear.

He turned to Aeron.

"Give her back."

Aeron didn't move.

Finn's voice rose slightly.

"Now."

Aeron looked at him.

Not angry.

Not arguing.

Thinking.

The tension stretched.

Too long.

Too sharp.

Nora looked between them.

"…Wow."

"Family drama."

Lucas muttered—

"Not helping."

Velik stepped forward.

Controlled.

"We don't want a fight."

A pause.

"Not yet."

Aeron finally spoke—

"And you think threatening her will end this?"

Lucas shrugged slightly.

"No."

A pause.

"But it starts something."

Finn stepped closer now.

Eyes locked on Aeron.

"We get her back."

Aeron looked at Nora.

Long.

Careful.

Then—

He let go.

Nora didn't wait.

She stepped back instantly.

Straight toward Lucas and the group.

Lucas pulled her slightly behind him.

Protective.

"…You good?"

Nora nodded once.

"…I'm fine."

Zoe exhaled quietly.

Velik raised his hand slightly.

"Now."

Zoe stepped forward.

Energy forming in her hands.

A glowing thread of magic appeared—

Stretching outward.

Connected to something far away.

The cave.

Axuma.

The energy pulled.

Slowly.

Carefully.

And then—

A second figure formed.

Axuma.

Still unconscious.

Still bound.

Appearing between both sides.

Finn moved instantly—

But stopped himself.

Zoe lowered her hands.

"It's done."

Silence.

Velik spoke clearly—

"The exchange is complete."

Aeron watched everything.

Carefully.

Then stepped back.

Finn moved forward slowly.

Kneeling beside Axuma.

"…She's alive."

For the first time—

Relief.

Lucas exhaled.

"…Good."

No one attacked.

No one moved.

Because something had changed.

Not peace.

But pause.

Final Beat

Aeron looked at Nora one last time.

"This isn't over."

Nora didn't hesitate.

"I know."

A pause.

"…Next time, I won't be taken."

Aeron gave the slightest nod.

Then—

They were gone.

Leaving the forest silent again.

Lucas looked around.

Then at Nora.

"…Okay."

A pause.

"…That went better than expected."

Nora smirked slightly.

"Don't get used to it."

But no one relaxed.

Because deep down—

They all knew—

That wasn't the end .

The forest stayed quiet.

Too quiet.

No signs of Aeron.

No sign of Finn.

But no one felt safe.

Because now—

They knew what was out there.

And they knew—

Next time…

They wouldn't get a second chance.

⚔️ Lucas & Nora

A small clearing near the cave.

Nora stood in the center.

Arms crossed.

Already annoyed.

Lucas circled her slowly.

Observing.

"…You hesitate."

Nora frowned.

"I don't hesitate."

Lucas smirked slightly.

"You do."

A pause.

"You think before you attack."

Nora stepped forward.

"That's called being smart."

Lucas shook his head.

"No."

A pause.

"That's called giving your enemy time."

Before she could react—

Lucas moved.

Fast.

He grabbed her wrist—

Twisted—

And in a second—

She was on the ground.

"…Again," he said calmly.

Nora pushed herself up instantly.

Angry now.

"This time I won't—"

Lucas cut in—

"Don't say it."

A pause.

"Do it."

Nora attacked again.

Faster.

Stronger.

Lucas blocked—

But this time—

She didn't stop.

She adapted.

Shifted.

Countered.

Lucas smiled slightly.

"…Better."

🗡️ Velik & Julien

Near the cave—

Velik stood still.

Completely still.

Julien faced him.

Focused.

"Attack," Velik said.

Julien didn't hesitate.

He moved forward—

Fast.

Precise.

Velik blocked everything.

Effortlessly.

Julien stepped back.

Frustrated.

"…You're not even trying."

Velik looked at him.

Calm.

"I am."

A pause.

"You are predictable."

Julien clenched his jaw.

"…Then teach me."

Velik stepped forward.

Slow.

Controlled.

"Stop thinking like a fighter."

A pause.

"Think like someone who cannot lose."

Julien attacked again—

But this time—

Different.

Less force.

More control.

Velik blocked—

But this time—

He stepped back.

"…Good," he said quietly.

🔮 Zoe, Eva & Lana

Inside the cave—

The air shimmered.

Zoe stood in the center.

Eyes closed.

Hands glowing.

Eva and Lana stood beside her.

Energy rising between them.

Zoe whispered—

"…It's still unstable."

Eva responded—

"Then we stabilize it."

Lana added—

"Or we control it."

The energy between them pulsed.

Stronger.

Zoe raised her voice slightly—

"Power that walks between breath and silence…

bind to will… not to chaos…"

The cave trembled slightly.

Eva stepped forward—

Adding her energy.

Lana followed.

The glow intensified.

For a moment—

Everything aligned.

Then—

A sudden surge.

Zoe gasped—

Stepping back.

"…It's too much."

Eva steadied her.

"No."

A pause.

"We're getting closer."

Lana looked at both of them.

Serious.

"We need this."

Silence.

Because they all knew—

Without it—

They wouldn't survive.

🌑 Final Moment

Outside—

Lucas stepped back.

Breathing steady.

Nora stood across from him.

Stronger now.

"…Again?" she asked.

Lucas smirked.

"Always."

Nearby—

Julien wiped blood from his lip.

Still standing.

Still learning.

Inside—

Zoe, Eva, and Lana prepared again.

Even stronger.

And above all of them—

Unseen—

Unheard—

Something watched.

Not moving.

Not attacking.

Just waiting.

Because while they were preparing for war—

War…

Was already preparing for them.
