Chapter 29 - A Name That Didn't Belong

The apartment had gone completely quiet.

It was well past midnight.

Meenakshi had finally fallen asleep after hours of conversation.

Lakshmi Rajyam gently adjusted the blanket over her and quietly stepped out of the bedroom, closing the door without making a sound.

The hall was dimly lit.

Only one light remained on.

Sathyamoorthy was still awake.

His laptop, a notebook, and several handwritten pages were spread across the table.

His eyes showed signs of exhaustion, but his mind refused to stop.

Lakshmi walked toward him.

You should sleep.

He looked up and smiled faintly.

I was about to say the same thing to you.

She pulled a chair and sat opposite him.

Did you find anything?

Sathyamoorthy remained silent for a few moments.

Then he slowly pushed a page toward her.

I didn't find proof.

But I found a pattern.

Lakshmi looked at the notes.

Call timings.

News publication times.

Television broadcasts.

Social media posts.

Government press releases.

Everything had been arranged in chronological order.

She studied the page carefully.

Then looked at him.

What am I supposed to see?

Sathyamoorthy pointed at one column.

The first television channel that hinted you might be in Chennai.

Lakshmi nodded.

Go on.

Every other media house published the news almost forty minutes later.

She continued reading.

That means someone gave the first information directly to them.

Sathyamoorthy nodded.

Exactly.

The strange part is this.

The channel didn't claim confirmation.

They simply said reliable sources suggested Chennai.

Lakshmi remained silent.

Reliable sources.

She repeated the words slowly.

In politics... those two words usually mean someone wants information released without revealing who provided it.

Sathyamoorthy agreed.

That's what bothered me.

He opened another page.

Then I started checking something else.

What?

Who benefits from releasing incomplete information instead of exact information.

Lakshmi immediately understood.

Someone who wants pressure... not capture.

He smiled.

Exactly.

If they truly knew your location, they wouldn't leak Chennai to the media.

They would quietly move toward you.

Lakshmi leaned back.

Which means...

He completed the sentence.

Someone wants you to feel surrounded.

The realization settled heavily.

Not to catch me.

Lakshmi whispered.

To force me into making a mistake.

Neither of them spoke for nearly a minute.

Finally Lakshmi broke the silence.

That means there are two different groups.

Sathyamoorthy looked up.

Explain.

One group wants to locate me.

Another wants me to react.

She tapped the notebook gently.

Those are not always the same people.

Sathyamoorthy slowly nodded.

That actually explains the timing.

He continued.

The leak wasn't detailed enough to conduct an operation.

But it was detailed enough to create panic.

Lakshmi looked toward the closed bedroom door where Meenakshi was sleeping.

Fortunately... we didn't panic.

At that moment, Vijayalakshmi walked quietly into the hall.

She had apparently been awake and had overheard the last few minutes.

So the leak itself was bait.

Lakshmi nodded.

Most likely.

Vijayalakshmi sat beside them.

Then don't waste time searching only for the person who leaked it.

Find the person who benefited from leaking it.

The room became silent.

Sathyamoorthy looked at his mother.

That's... actually a better question.

Lakshmi smiled slightly.

Experienced people ask different questions.

Vijayalakshmi returned the smile.

Age teaches pattern recognition.

Sathyamoorthy picked up his pen again.

Instead of writing names...

he wrote one sentence at the top of a fresh page.

Who gains if Lakshmi Rajyam leaves her hiding place willingly?

He stared at the question.

For the first time since this entire journey had begun...

he felt he wasn't chasing random clues anymore.

He was chasing motive.

And somewhere, hidden behind the political storm...

the person who started the chain of events still believed their plan was working.

They had no idea... someone inside a small apartment in Chennai had just begun asking the right questions.
