On my way back inside, I could not help but wonder if she was awake.
After what happened the night before, Adeline had not been herself. The royal mage had said it was all the doing of the Abylion Cave.
He explained that she had not only made eye contact with it, she had spoken to it. And that alone had been enough to plant something inside her mind… something that made her drift, and made her yearn to return. Not for the cave itself, but for what it showed her. A replication of her Father, and her mother.
He said the only way the spell could be broken was if the Abylion Cave was sealed forever. Otherwise, she would remain in that state… and eventually, she would die.
And I would not watch Adeline die because of my son's selfish refusal to choose a wife.
This had been Nathan's plan from the beginning.
