Chapter 1 - Bound by a Black Contract – Chapter 1

"Marry me for one year," the cold voice said.

I froze, my eyes wide, the trembling contract in my hands.

Adrian Black… the most dangerous CEO in the city.

"And if I refuse?" I whispered, my heart hammering against my ribs.

His dark eyes met mine, icy and unyielding.

"Then your family loses everything tonight."

I stumbled back, my hand brushing against the smooth marble table for balance. One year. Marry him. And the alternative… ruin my family. My father's pale, desperate face flashed in my mind. There was no choice left for him, and apparently none for me either.

Adrian leaned back in his black leather chair, the soft creak barely audible as he rotated slowly, his gaze never leaving the contract. Every movement was deliberate, controlled, a predator sizing up its prey. He reached out, finger tracing a line across the document, and for a second, I felt as if he could read my soul through my trembling grip.

"You're not just agreeing to marry me," he said, voice low and sharp, "You're signing over your family's fate for the next year. Think carefully."

I swallowed hard. My fingers gripped the contract tighter. Pride screamed at me to refuse, but my heart, and the thought of my family, forced me forward.

"I'll… I'll do it," I stammered.

A faint smirk curved his lips, just enough to send a shiver down my spine. "Good. The contract is in your bag. Sign it by tonight, and your family remains untouched."

He stood, movements smooth, deliberate, each step echoing on the marble floor like a warning. The aura of power surrounding him pressed down on me, heavy and suffocating. I wanted to speak, to protest, to turn and run—but the weight of his presence held me frozen.

Outside the office, the city glittered innocently, unaware of the storm descending into my life. My father's worried eyes followed me as I left, and I realized there was no escape from what awaited.

I clutched the contract as I walked, cold shivers crawling down my spine. Married to my enemy. And yet… something about him drew me in despite every warning screaming in my head. Who was Adrian Black, really? Why did he want me? And what secrets lay behind those dark, unyielding eyes?

The elevator doors slid shut, and I pressed myself against the wall, breath uneven. Then… a faint whisper echoed in my mind, as if the mansion itself had spoken:

"You belong to me now, Lena… and I don't forgive mistakes."

My stomach dropped. In that instant, I knew this marriage was only the beginning of a nightmare I could not escape. Every instinct told me danger was closer than I imagined—and yet, some part of me trembled with curiosity, with the need to see what lay behind those unyielding eyes.

I reached my small room at the far end of the mansion, the door feeling heavier than any I had ever touched. The dim lighting cast long shadows across the walls, and the furniture, minimalist and cold, reflected Adrian's personality more than any words could. My bag sat in the corner, the contract inside, waiting for me to sign.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, I tried to steady my racing heart. The night outside was silent, but inside, the mansion thrummed with a tension I could almost touch. My mind replayed every moment in his office, every word, every glance. How could a single man carry so much power, so much control? And why did it feel like he already owned more than just my family's fate?

A knock at the door startled me. My hand froze mid-air as I turned toward the sound. The shadows didn't move. Slowly, cautiously, I approached. No one was there, but on the desk, a small envelope with my name scrawled across it rested, almost mocking me. My fingers trembled as I picked it up.

"Some truths are better left unknown. Are you ready to see yours?"

I froze, heart hammering. Adrian? Or someone else lurking in the shadows of the mansion? The air felt heavier, the walls closer. My pulse raced as dread and curiosity collided. One thing was certain: tonight had changed everything, and the secrets I was about to uncover would decide my fate.

I sank onto the edge of the bed, hands clutching the envelope, mind spinning with questions and fear. The mansion was silent again, yet the sense of being watched lingered. Married to Adrian Black. Bound by a contract I could not escape. And now, a message that threatened to unravel even the fragile control I had over my own life.

I did not know what awaited me tomorrow, or the day after that. But one thing was clear: nothing in my life would ever be the same again.
