She had stayed until Candace had fallen asleep and watched the servants tidy up the room before she had been able to convince herself to leave.

As she descended the stairway and turned into the hallway, she heard a familiar boisterous cackle coming from the other end of the hallway.

Eve spun on her heel and headed in the opposite direction.
