That day was particularly dull and broody as if the world was giving me a sign. The clouds, a deep depressing grey that made the sky look sad. The sun hidden behind the clouds once more as the dull darkness washed over the land. I watched him cautiously as he ate without a single worry. He was a stranger to me, and yet his features felt familiar. Looking at him now he felt like an old friend. His pristine white hair, his blue eyes and the scarf hung intentionally across his mouth.
" So, what do you want to talk about "
I said, finally breaking the silence between us.
" Oh yes. I have a few questions " he said bringing out a note, that was empty.
" Alright, shoot " I said finally relaxing
" There's been rumours going around about your age, before any further questions I'd like to confirm or deny those rumors. How old are you? "
" Hmm, you don't beat around the bush do you, alright then, I can talk. It's not like your gonna tell anyone "
" Yeah you made me sign a contract of confidentiality "
" You can't trust anyone in business.... As for my age. You've heard the rumours about me being about a hundred years I presume. Well they're all false. I am, give or take a few decades, three hundred and fifty years old.
" Wow "
"You sound unimpressed "
And in truth he did. That number didn't faze him. After that there was a moment of silence as he gazed at his notepad.
" So what's your secret to living so long, what kind of physical therapy do you go through "
There was no physical therapy or the like. As a doctor, hell a human with common sense, he should know that no procedure Could make one live this long. He was probing me. From his gaze I could tell, he new the answer as impossible as it may seem.
" Alright. I guess I can tell you "
Could I though? I just met him a few weeks ago. And now sitting across him, having a talk with him. Every cell In my body was screaming to run away. The clouds and even the sun seem scared, neither decorated this already dull day.
" In truth... I ... I was cursed by a witch "
" Uh — huh "
" Believe me. I swear I'm telling the truth "
" Oh I believe you, I've seen my fair share of creepy junk, what I can't believe is that a witch would curse someone with longevity, if anything that seems like a blessin— "
" IT ISN'T. DON'T GIVE ME THAT CRAP "
" Woah chill dude, I'm sorry. Didn't know it was a touchy subject for you "
Just then I noticed I was standing, aggressively staring at him, and now crowds of people were staring, wondering what was going on, I turned to face Geoffrey's panicked face.
" Sorry, sorry, my bad " I said as I slowly sat down.
This was the first time in almost a hundred years I lost my cool, BUT I believe it was justified, how could someone call what was practically immortality a blessing. I've been alive for damn near four hundred years. Humans are NOT meant to live that long.
" We can continue the conversation if you'd like "
" Al..right then. I'll like to continue where we left off "
" Sure let's just get this over with "
" You say you're cursed, but I know nine billion people that'll disagree with you.
" Yeah I would've disagreed with me too. But not now...not anymore "
" To be honest I still don't know how you see this as a curse, are you sure this is a curse and not a blessing from God "
" Don't give me that crap, as if God is real. "
" Of course I don't. If he is all powerful as they say why not save all those who suffer, why not eradicate all evil, humans included, and if he was all good why did he let me suffer so much. God cannot not be all powerful or all good, it contradicts itself. And a God who isn't all powerful and all good isn't one worth serving, and plus, don't tell me that when you don't believe in him either "
I said, staring at him for the first time, looking directly into his eyes. His blue, blank, soulless, devoid of all emotion, eyes. Then he smiled.
" Fair point. Regardless. From your words one would assume you're tired of living, of being alive. That wasn't the vibe I got when I first saw you all those years ago. "
Those words sent shivers down my spine, not because of the words themselves, but the expression he made. His voice had changed also, trailing from a cheery, barely masculine tone, to a deep monotone that felt empty .
" Ex...excuse me? " I managed to stutter out the words, now unable to make eye contact.
" Oh sorry, you didn't catch that " he said in his cheery upbeat voice before suddenly changing again.
" Do yOU WaNT tO diE " he said looking dead serious as his blue eyes reached mine.
