She did not come back to consciousness the way she expected.
She had been unconscious before. Concussion twice. A sedative the Caruso medic had administered after the third port without asking first. Unconsciousness, in her experience, ended with a single clean return: lights off, then lights on, the gap between them irrelevant.
This was not that. This was a long corridor she kept walking down and never arriving at the end of, and at various points there were rooms she stepped into briefly and then left without staying.
In one of them, there was a weight on her hand.
