Chapter 3 - Chapter 2 — System Initialization

The rain had stopped, but the streets of the city were slick and glistening. Ethan Vale leaned against a lamppost, panting, his heart still racing from the shadow creature he had barely outrun. The blue glow of the Godly System interface floated before his eyes like a living hologram.

[MISSION COMPLETE]

Objective: Survive the Awakening ✅

XP Gained: 120

Level Up Available

Ethan blinked. His mind was spinning. "Level… up? This is insane," he muttered.

The interface pulsed rhythmically. Words appeared, crisp and precise:

[LEVEL UP CONFIRMED]

Level 2 → Level 3

Attribute Points Available: 8

Ethan's first instinct was to panic, but a strange calm washed over him. He could feel his muscles tense and relax as if the system was already nudging his body to grow stronger.

He touched the floating interface. A menu appeared:

Strength: 0

Agility: 0

Intelligence: 0

Vitality: 0

Spirit: 0

"Okay… let's see…" he muttered, trying to think logically. If that thing back there was real—and it obviously was—he couldn't stay weak. Not if he wanted to survive.

He allocated the points carefully:

Strength +3

Agility +4

Vitality +1

[ATTRIBUTE DISTRIBUTION CONFIRMED]

Current Stats: Strength 8 | Agility 12 | Vitality 6 | Intelligence 5 | Spirit 2

Immediately, Ethan felt lighter on his feet. His breathing became easier, his reflexes sharper. The world seemed slower, as if he had been granted a brief glimpse of time in slow motion.

Then the system spoke again, its voice calm but commanding:

[NEW SKILL UNLOCKED]

Skill: Shadow Dash

Description: Dash a short distance through shadows. Evade attacks or close distance rapidly.

Skill Tier: Basic

Ethan hesitated, then muttered, "Shadows… okay." He focused on the dark alley nearby. With a flick of his wrist, he tried it. His body blurred and vanished for a split second, reappearing behind a trash can.

He yelped in disbelief. "This… this is real!"

Before he could marvel too long, the street trembled again. From the end of the alley, a low growl echoed—a sound more sinister than anything he had ever heard.

[HOSTILE ENTITY DETECTED]

Threat Level: MEDIUM

Objective: Survive or Eliminate

The creature emerged—a shadow beast, smaller than the last, but faster, its glowing red eyes locked on him. Its claws scraped the pavement, sending sparks flying.

Ethan's mind raced. The system pulsed again, highlighting options.

[OPTION 1: ATTACK]

[OPTION 2: EVASIVE MANEUVER]

He didn't have time to think. Reflex took over. He pressed himself into the shadows along the walls and activated Shadow Dash. In an instant, he blinked forward, evading the beast's swipe.

The creature snarled, frustrated, and lunged again. Ethan's fingers grazed the system interface. Another notification:

[TACTICAL RECOMMENDATION: USE ENVIRONMENTAL ADVANTAGE]

He looked around—the wet pavement reflected neon signs, the trash cans and fire escapes offered cover. He leapt onto a low wall and dashed through shadows again, narrowly avoiding death.

The system chimed.

[QUEST UPDATE]

Time Elapsed: 3:12

Objective Remaining: Survive 2 more minutes

Ethan's heart pounded. Sweat mixed with rain, his muscles burning. But something inside him felt… different. Alive. Powerful.

And then, instinctively, he lunged from the shadows, catching the creature off guard. With a swift punch empowered by his newfound strength, he struck its jaw. The creature recoiled, stunned, allowing him to finish it with a second, precise strike.

It collapsed. Smoke rose from its body, shadows dissolving into nothingness.

[MISSION COMPLETE]

XP Gained: 250

Level Up Available

Skill Evolution Triggered: Shadow Dash → Advanced Tier

Ethan fell to his knees, panting. His mind was racing, adrenaline mixing with disbelief. He had survived… and he had grown stronger.

The system's voice echoed, calm and eternal:

[WARNING: YOUR GROWTH HAS BEEN DETECTED. HOSTILE ENTITIES WILL INCREASE IN FREQUENCY AND STRENGTH. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.]

Ethan Vale looked at the city around him. The rain had stopped, but everything had changed.

He wasn't just a young man struggling to survive anymore.

He was a host of the Godly System.

And the journey to godhood had only just begun.
