Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Labyrinth of Lies

Zara slipped into the narrow entrance of the safehouse, the hidden doorway blending seamlessly with the abandoned warehouse walls. Her legs shook, her body bruised and exhausted, but for the first time in hours, she felt… a sliver of hope.

The interior was dimly lit but surprisingly secure. Monitors lined one wall, flickering with maps, grids, and data she barely understood. Her heart skipped. Whoever had set this up knew exactly what they were doing.

The device beeped again, its message flashing across the small screen:

"The Ashes are not just a secret. They are a weapon. They will use you to activate it."

Zara's stomach tightened. The stakes were bigger than she imagined. Her escape wasn't just about survival anymore — it was about preventing a disaster.

Footsteps approached, and she ducked behind a stack of crates. The sound of voices echoed softly.

"…she's smarter than expected," one said. "Keep monitoring. Don't let her out of sight."

Zara's eyes narrowed. The safehouse wasn't entirely safe. Someone had orchestrated this — leaving her a path, but only partially. Every step had been anticipated.

She explored carefully, discovering a hidden panel in the corner. It contained blueprints — not just of this safehouse, but of multiple locations. Each marked with cryptic symbols she couldn't fully decipher yet.

Her mind raced. The Ashes… the letter… the betrayal. They were all connected, part of a plan she had yet to fully understand. And now, time was running out.

A sudden noise made her freeze — the safehouse's main door clicked. A shadow passed across the doorway. Zara flattened against the wall, heart hammering.

A coded message appeared on the device:

"You're running out of time. Trust no one, not even this place."

Zara clenched her fists. Every instinct screamed danger, but she also knew that the next move she made would decide everything.

The walls around her weren't just hiding enemies. They were hiding the truth — and the closer she got, the more lethal the labyrinth became.
