Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Wing Attack

The Western Bastion of the Grand Iron File did not smell of ozone or machine oil. It smelled of scorched silence.

While the High Board in Sector 1 was busy fortifying the central transit gate with four thousand spatial batteries and heavy artillery, they had committed a fundamental oversight in tactical distribution: they had left their flank tethered to an uncalculated geographical variable—the Abyssal Trench of Epsilon-9.

Itachi stood on the razor-thin cliff edge of the trench, three miles west of the primary Iron Bastion.

Below him, an endless expanse of swirling, violet nebula-gas churned through the miles-deep ravine, cutting off any direct frontal assault. To the average high-tier commander, the trench was an impassable natural barrier—a dead square on the perimeter of the board that required no defense.

To a Grandmaster, a natural barrier was simply an unprotected diagonal waiting to be exploited.

[Location: Western Flank — Epsilon-9 Ridge]

[Active Protocol: Queen-Rank Strategic Core]

[Dignity Stat: 100/100 (Absolute Precision)]

"Master Itachi," the bronze scout drone whispered, hovering cautiously over the swirling violet abyss. Its optical lens was vibrating from the sheer density of the spatial radiation rising from the trench. "The perimeter sensors of Bastion-Four are less than two miles away. If their Rook-Brigadier activates long-range scanners, we'll be caught in a crossfire of spatial artillery."

Itachi didn't answer immediately. He raised his obsidian-and-gold scepter, its tip glowing with a faint, steady golden hum.

"They won't scan the trench," Itachi deadpanned.

"Why not?"

"Because arrogance creates blind spots," Itachi said smoothly. "Grand Regent Malakor concentrated ninety percent of his defensive batteries on the central d-file because he expects a direct, linear push. He assumes a piece that rose from a Pawn will fight like a brute, seeking a head-on collision."

He stepped closer to the cliff's edge, his gold-embroidered velvet mantle catching the high-altitude gale.

"He does not understand flank mobility."

[Skill Sync: Flank Inversion (Minor Piece Routing)]

[Active Vector: A-File Expansion]

Itachi tapped the base of his scepter against the stone.

TAP.

The moment the scepter struck the rock, the violet nebula-gas swirling deep within the Epsilon-9 trench froze instantly, solidifying into a flat, mirror-smooth bridge of translucent golden crystal that spanned the three-mile-wide abyss.

Across the trench, right at the unguarded rear gate of Bastion-Four, the heavy iron-plated security doors sat locked and silent. The garrison inside—expecting an assault from the east—had their automated tracking arrays facing the wrong direction entirely.

"The board has a left side," Itachi noted, his golden eyes narrowing. "And the left side is currently empty."

[Skill Activated: Quiet Move (Prophylactic Encroachment)]

Itachi didn't charge across the crystal bridge. He walked. Every step was measured, deliberate, and entirely silent, his boots making a soft, rhythmic tap against the newly materialized golden pathway.

Behind him, the drone tracked his progress, its audio feed broadcasting the low, escalating alarm klaxons from Bastion-Four as their internal automated sensors finally detected an anomalous mass displacement in their rear sector.

"Intruders on the western perimeter!" an automated digital voice echoed from the bastion's high-frequency speakers. "Secondary gate unshielded! Rotate tracking arrays to—"

Itachi didn't give them time to rotate.

He reached the end of the crystal bridge, stepping off the abyss directly onto the concrete landing pad of Bastion-Four's rear control center.

The heavy iron blast doors hissed open as two high-tier Rook-Brigadiers (Level 58) rushed out, their massive, eight-foot-tall frames clad in heavy black steel and carrying twin kinetic shield-generators.

"Halt, intruder!" the lead Rook-Brigadier roared, slamming his shields together to generate a localized suppression wall. "You've bypassed the main—"

Itachi raised his left hand, his expression entirely unbothered.

"Your positioning is crowded," Itachi interrupted softly. "You have two heavy units defending a single doorway, leaving zero room for tactical retreat."

[Skill Sync: Overload Vector (Flank Pressure)]

He didn't use a flashy, world-ending spell. He simply flicked the obsidian-and-gold scepter forward, tapping the edge of the lead Brigadier's kinetic shield.

CLICK.

The kinetic energy of the two heavy units—stored within their own overlapping shield-generators—was instantly reflected backward by the scepter's Queen-Rank authority.

BOOM-BOOM!

The massive shockwave detonated inward, blowing both Rook-Brigadiers off their feet and slamming them hard against the interior control bulkheads of Bastion-Four. Their heavy steel armor crumpled like tin foil, their internal status bars flashing red before flatlining completely.

[Targets Neutralized: 2x Rook-Brigadiers (Level 58)]

[XP Gained: 450,000]

[Western Bastion Control: Acquired]

The alarm klaxons inside the bastion instantly cut out, replaced by a low, rhythmic digital chime as the facility's master console automatically synced with Itachi's Queen-Rank scepter.

The bronze scout drone flew into the control room, its optical lens scanning the sprawling holographic display of Sector 1's western interior.

"Master Itachi..." the drone reported, its voice trembling with sudden realization. "By taking Bastion-Four... we've bypassed the outer wall entirely. We have a direct, unobstructed line straight into Sector 1's economic supply lines!"

Itachi stepped past the smoking wreckage of the front gates, looking out over the sprawling, neon-lit skyline of Sector 1's outer industrial districts stretching into the distance.

"The center is locked," Itachi deadpanned, a faint, cold smile touching the edge of his lips. "And the flank is wide open. Let us begin the squeeze."
