Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Last Erasure

The sky over Fort Salta was a canvas of fire and bone. The Scouts had fought until their blades were jagged and their gas was gone. Armin's Colossal transformation had detonated against the Founding Titan's neck, but it wasn't enough. Out of the white steam, a new, skeletal Colossal Titan emerged—Eren.

"It's not stopping!" Hange shouted, her voice cracked from the heat. "We have no choice! We have to kill him now, or the world ends!"

Mikasa fell to her knees on the back of the flying titan, her heart shattering. "There has to be another way... please..."

"There is," a calm voice cut through the roar of the wind.

Ken stood at the edge of the airship, his Digital Book glowing with a blinding, celestial white light. His frizzy hair was whipping wildly, and his blue eyes had turned into twin stars.

"Ken! Stay back!" Levi barked, his body broken and bleeding. "This isn't a place for a kid!"

But it was too late. With a flick of his wrist, Eren let out a roar that rippled through the Paths. A cloud of Titan steam erupted from the ground below, and one by one, the survivors—Connie, Jean, even the Marleyan soldiers—began to transform.

"NO!" Mikasa screamed, watching her friends turn into mindless monsters. She turned to Ken, grabbing his hoodie. "Ken! You said you could save them! Please! Save Eren!"

"I'm going to," Ken said, his voice echoing with a power that made the air vibrate. "But to save the story, I have to take the Author's place."

The Mouth of the Beast

Levi grabbed Ken's collar. "I'm not letting you go near that thing! You'll die in seconds!"

"Captain," Ken said, looking Levi in the eye. For the first time, Levi didn't see a "brat." He saw something ancient and infinitely kind. "Trust me one last time. I'm the only one who can delete the curse."

Levi's grip loosened. He nodded once, a silent farewell in his eyes.

Ken, Mikasa, and Levi dived toward the mouth of the giant. They tore through the muscular tissue, landing inside the dark, steaming cavern where Eren's severed head hung by a single, fleshy cord.

Ken stepped forward, but he didn't draw a sword. He reached out and grabbed the cord with his bare hands.

[Authority: Narrative Hijack — The Founding Source]

A surge of blue lightning exploded from Ken. He didn't kill Eren; he erased the connection between Eren and the Source. The power of the Founding Titan began to flow out of Eren and into Ken's body.

"What are you doing?!" Mikasa cried.

"I'm taking the burden," Ken gasped, his skin beginning to glow and crack with white light. "Eren is free... but the Founding Titan needs a host to stay alive long enough to be deleted. To kill the Titan... you have to kill me."

Mikasa and Levi froze. They looked at Ken—the boy who had given them maps, meat sauce, and hope. He was their brother now. They couldn't do it.

"I won't!" Mikasa sobbed.

"Don't be a fool, Ken!" Levi shouted.

Ken smiled, even as his form began to dissolve into static. "I didn't say you had to do it."

He reached into the fleshy mass and pulled out Eren, completely unharmed and unconscious. He shoved Eren into Mikasa's arms.

"Take him and go! Now!" Ken commanded.

"But Ken—!"

"This is my ending!" Ken shouted, his voice booming like thunder. "Go live your lives! Be happy! That's the only payment I want!"

With a massive surge of power, Ken "erased" the distance between them and the safety of the distant cliffs, physically pushing Mikasa, Levi, and the unconscious Eren out of the Founding Titan's mouth and far away from the blast zone.

The White Void

As Mikasa and Levi tumbled onto the grass, they looked back. The massive, skeletal Founding Titan was moving away from the Fort, walking slowly toward the horizon.

Suddenly, a wave of golden light washed over the world. Below them, the Titans—Jean, Connie, Gabi—all began to glow. The steam cleared, and they stood there as humans once again, confused and gasping for air.

"The power... it's gone," Armin whispered, looking at his own hands. "The Titans are finished."

In the distance, the Founding Titan didn't just fall. It began to erase. From the feet up, the bone and flesh turned into white ink and vanished into the sky. There was a final, blinding flash of light, and then... silence.

The war was over. The curse was dead.

The Final Message

Days later, the survivors sat on the cliffs, mourning the friends they had lost, but celebrating the life they had been given. Armin cried for the boy who had given him the world; Hange stared at the empty sky where the "miracle" had been.

Mikasa sat by Eren's side, his head resting in her lap. She looked at the Pager Ken had given her. It was dead, the screen dark.

"He's really gone," she whispered.

But then, a movement caught her eye. Far down on the beach, near the spot where the Founding Titan had vanished, a figure was standing.

It was a boy in a black hoodie with frizzy white hair, a satisfied smile on his face. He turned back for a split second, his blue eyes flashing with a wink, before he stepped into a rift of white static and vanished completely.

Mikasa looked down at the Pager. A single line of text appeared on the glowing green screen:

[See you at the wedding. Don't forget the meat.]

Mikasa let out a tearful laugh, clutching the device to her heart. The Wanderer hadn't died. He had just finished the chapter and moved on to the next one.
