Dusk settled slowly over Eldermere, painting the sky in shades of violet and gold.
Inside the Richardson house, a quiet tension filled the air. A small suitcase sat by the door — packed with clothes, a few books, and more uncertainty than Alexa could put into words.
Tyler paced excitedly. "Do you think there will be dragons?"
"Tyler," Seylah said, half laughing, "it's a school, not a zoo."
"But it's a magic school," he insisted.
Alexa stood near the window, watching the fading light. Her heart thumped steadily.
Olivia walked over and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "How are you feeling?"
"Nervous," Alexa admitted. "What if I don't belong there?"
Daniel smiled softly. "You belong more than you realize."
A sudden low hum filled the air — like distant wind echoing through unseen halls.
The lights flickered.
Tyler's eyes widened. "Did you hear that?"
Outside, the air shimmered.
A circle of glowing symbols slowly appeared on the driveway, lines of silver light weaving into an intricate pattern.
Alexa stepped closer to the door. "Is that…?"
"The transport," Daniel said quietly.
The circle brightened, forming a doorway of swirling light — like liquid starlight suspended in the air.
A tall figure stepped through.
She wore deep blue robes embroidered with faint glowing runes, her silver hair falling neatly over her shoulders.
"Good evening," she said with a gentle smile. "I am Professor Elinor Thorne of Arcadia Academy. I've come to escort Miss Alexa Richardson."
Olivia nodded respectfully. "Welcome."
Professor Thorne inclined her head. "We sensed a powerful awakening."
Alexa shifted nervously. "That would be… me."
The professor's eyes softened. "You need not be afraid."
Tyler whispered loudly, "She looks like she knows everything."
Seylah nudged him. "Shh."
Professor Thorne turned to Alexa. "Are you ready?"
Alexa hesitated, glancing at her family.
Olivia pulled her into a hug. "Be brave."
Daniel embraced her next. "Trust yourself."
Seylah hugged her tightly. "Write to me. And don't accidentally burn down the school."
Alexa laughed softly. "I'll try."
Tyler wrapped his arms around her waist. "Bring back magic stuff."
"I will," she promised.
Taking a deep breath, Alexa picked up her suitcase.
She stepped toward the glowing portal.
The air tingled against her skin — warm and electric.
Professor Thorne extended a hand. "Come."
Alexa stepped through.
—
For a moment, there was only light.
Wind rushed past her like whispers carrying secrets.
Then —
She stood on a wide stone courtyard beneath a sky filled with unfamiliar stars.
Before her rose Arcadia Academy.
Towering spires reached toward the heavens, their windows glowing with soft golden light. Vines shimmered faintly along ancient stone walls, and floating lanterns drifted lazily through the air. Bridges arched between towers, and somewhere in the distance, bells chimed with a haunting beauty.
But what truly stunned Alexa was the life around her.
Students moved across the courtyard in ways she had only imagined.
Some soared gently through the air, gliding above the stone paths as if gravity barely touched them.
Nearby, a group of students stood around a fountain — one lifted their hands and streams of water flowed upward like dancing ribbons, twisting and forming shapes before settling again.
Another student raised their palms toward the ground — dust swirled upward in spirals, tiny stones floating as if weightless, while a nearby tree bent its branches slightly toward them, responding like a living companion.
A flash of light caught her eye — two students vanished and reappeared several steps away, laughing quietly. Teleportation.
Across the courtyard, sparks crackled around a student's fingers — blue arcs of electricity danced between their hands as they practiced precise control.
Alexa whispered, breathless, "Wow…"
She noticed a training field beyond the courtyard where swift, disciplined students moved with incredible speed — practicing with swords. Their movements were sharp and precise, blades flashing under enchanted lights as they sparred with focus and skill, like guardians preparing for something greater.
Professor Thorne smiled at Alexa's expression. "Arcadia nurtures many paths — elementalists, kineticists, guardians, and scholars."
Alexa shook her head slightly, overwhelmed. "I've never seen anything like this."
A few students paused, whispering quietly.
"Is that the new girl?"
"I heard she caused a fire."
"She feels… different."
Alexa shifted uncomfortably. "Why are they staring?"
Professor Thorne replied calmly, "New arrivals always attract attention."
They walked toward the grand entrance — massive doors carved with symbols that seemed to shift subtly when looked at too long.
Inside, a vast hall opened before them, lit by floating chandeliers.
At the far end stood a woman in elegant dark robes, her presence commanding the space.
"Headmistress Seraphine Vale," Professor Thorne said softly.
The headmistress stepped forward, her gaze sharp yet welcoming.
"Alexa Richardson," she said. "We have been expecting you."
Alexa swallowed. "You… have?"
Seraphine smiled faintly. "Arcadia has a way of recognizing its own."
Alexa felt a strange warmth in her chest — like something deep within her was responding.
"Come," the headmistress said gently. "Your journey begins now."
