Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Kingpin's Trouble

"Unbelievable, it really worked!"

"Don't say that, Dad. It sounds like you don't have much faith in me."

Norman was shocked by the series of test data, while Harry slowly put on his clothes.

"I'm sorry, son, but this is amazing. You know, the most successful example of human enhancement technology dates back to World War II."

"Yeah, Captain America. Almost every American knows him."

"I'm proud of you, son." Norman put down the data in his hands and hugged Harry tightly.

"I told you, you have to have faith in me." Harry smiled and patted Norman on the back.

"So, how do you plan to handle this technology? This is groundbreaking stuff."

Harry had already thought about how to answer Norman's question.

First, making the technology public is impossible. It's best to keep it for oneself and use it secretly. Besides, Harry had carefully evaluated the technology; the spartan program didn't have a 100% success rate even with sufficient technology, let alone now when the technology wasn't perfect at all.

Harry's own enhancement was thanks to the system; otherwise, the success rate of this surgery might have been in the single digits.

As for some of the technology, Harry would strip it down and break it apart, then take it to Osborn Enterprises, patenting and industrializing it to strengthen the company.

After strengthening the company, he would continue to support Norman Osborn's political activities—following this model until he became the President of the United States.

"Very good, it seems you've already thought it through." Norman was very gratified; his son had truly given him too many surprises.

The conversation ended quickly, and at this moment, the phone rang.

"Harry, where are you?" It was Hurley.

As Norman rolled his eyes, Harry walked to the windowsill with a smile.

"Miss me? Sweetheart."

"You sound very happy. You aren't on a date with some girl, are you?" Hurley's voice sounded like an angry little girlfriend. It had to be said, this woman must have practiced; it made Harry feel ticklish.

"Come on, I'm still a minor. Could you watch how you speak?"

"Hmph, a battle-hardened minor, huh? Mr. Murdock called; he wants to meet with you."

Harry swirled his wine glass: It seems our daredevil has made some progress. It's time to start dealing with that self-righteous fat man.

Evening, Hells Kitchen, Nelson & Murdock Law Firm.

"It looks like you didn't use the money I gave you to renovate this place." Harry said, looking at the place called a law firm in front of him.

This was a dilapidated old building. Matt's law firm was in the corner of the first floor, damp and small, and the layout was very unreasonable.

Approaching the firm, a little chubby guy wearing the same suit as Matt opened the door.

"I also suggested he find a better place, but that's just how he is." Foggy Nelson, Matt's assistant and good friend, said so.

"I won't use that money until I confirm whether the client is innocent, you know that." Matt said.

"Hey, Lawyer Murdock, I thought you were the type who only takes cases for people you've confirmed are innocent. Also, could you not say that to my face? It's hurtful."

Harry complained a bit and walked into the firm.

"There are no outsiders here, so I'll be direct. Why do you think Wilson Fisk is this person you mentioned, Kingpin?"

Hearing Matt's question, Harry smiled.

"Osborn Enterprises is the premier enterprise in the United States, remember? Of course, I have some means."

Matt was silent. This wasn't the answer he wanted to hear, but he was silent because of something else—his perception of Harry told him that Harry had become very different.

"Fine. Anyway, following your line of reasoning, I did find some clues."

Matt gave Foggy a look and took out a stack of documents.

"This Mr. Wilson Fisk established many large enterprises several years ago, including Union Allied Construction, and gradually became known as a millionaire and great philanthropist. But no one knows why he has so much money."

"But after my investigation, this person—I mean Kingpin—had his shadow in crimes many years ago."

"So, Mr. Osborn, I don't think you were lying. This guy is hiding very deep."

Harry finished reading the materials, took a sip of water, and sighed deeply.

"So this is all you found in over a month? Legally speaking, these materials of yours don't have a closed chain of evidence. To a layman like me, most of it is just reasoning and conjecture."

Harry was a bit disappointed, but this result wasn't unexpected. After all, when Kingpin built his criminal empire, his methods were bloody and cruel, and it was expected that he would clean up well when he went legit.

"We don't have an entry point." Foggy helped Matt say, "We aren't private investigators, after all."

"You're right." Harry had expected this, but fortunately, he had already made arrangements.

Harry turned on the TV.

"Osborn Enterprises has recently announced that the municipal power grid project will add a new partner, Union Allied Construction."

"You're working with him?!" Matt was shocked. "What are you planning to do?"

"Of course, it's to find an entry point for you. Look at this list of companies; you are now the chief legal counsel for many companies, and also concurrently serving as CEO, CTO, and other messy things."

Also a month ago, Harry agreed to share a portion of the profits with Kingpin and secretly funded the purchase of some shell companies under Kingpin used for money laundering—paying protection money to Kingpin.

Actually, Harry wanted to acquire shares of Union Allied Construction, but Kingpin's subordinates weren't incompetent; he couldn't find an opportunity.

"You want us to look for clues in these companies' accounts?"

"To be honest, I don't know exactly how to check," Harry shrugged, he really didn't know much about this. "But I know that creating a relationship of interest is the best entry point. This will be a trouble for you. Please make sure to take this guy down before the power grid project is implemented, otherwise, I will lose a lot of money."

"Now, 'Dumbass' The Group, the new company I set up for this, I hope you can investigate these acquisitions and the issues involved with these companies. After all, the investors all think they've been scammed."

Matt and Foggy looked at each other: Rich people really do things differently. Now they had to start working.

On the other side, Union Allied Construction building.

The gangster emperor of New York, Kingpin, was overlooking Hells Kitchen—his territory.

"Wesley, did you find out? What exactly is going on?"

Wesley was his most reliable subordinate; he managed much of Kingpin's criminal empire.

"It's Harry Osborn. He bribed those guys and secretly completed these operations." After a pause, Wesley continued, "These traitors have all been moved to a residential complex outside, and the NYPD has specially strengthened the guard. It looks like they've reached some kind of agreement."

Kingpin didn't speak again.

But he felt that he seemed to have made a stupid decision this time. The New York power grid project was too tempting, and that Harry Osborn was too young, which made him think about expanding his business. But now it seemed that things had become a bit troublesome.

"Let Bullseye go and scare that green kid; perhaps he'll be easier to talk to then."
