Chapter 3 - chapter 3: joining the mafia

Sirens approached in the distance. Soon, the school hallways were filled with uniformed officers. They split into groups of three, each with four members, moving systematically to secure the building. One team approached the classroom where Corvin, Miles, and Nyssa were hiding.

The officers found the intruders' bodies. Blood pooled on the floor. The three students were shaken, exhausted, and in shock. Two were crying, and one lay collapsed with a wound to the shoulder. The officers immediately called for medical help.

"Stay here. Don't move until the police secure the area," one officer instructed.

Minutes later, another team arrived to check on the students in classroom 12-3. A tall officer looked down at them and asked, "Do you know where the intruders are?"

Miles, voice trembling and loud, shouted, "We killed them all!"

His voice cracked with fear. "Please… don't arrest us! I-I just defended myself!" Tears ran down his face.

The four officers exchanged glances, then nodded. "Follow us," one said calmly.

The police station's fluorescent lights flickered faintly, casting long shadows across the interrogation rooms. Corvin and Miles were separated, each facing their own questioning.

Miles sat stiffly in his chair, voice trembling as he spoke. "I… I was in P.E., then I went inside. I heard gunshots, so I ran to the bathroom," he explained, swallowing hard.

The officer wrote steadily on his report. "Were you connected to the intruders?"

"No," Miles replied quickly. "I wasn't. And Nyssa she's my friend. I wasn't involved in the gunfire to her shoulder."

The officer nodded, jotting down notes. "Did you kill anyone?"

"Yes," Miles admitted, voice shaking, "but they attacked me first. I only defended myself."

"Where did you get the weapon?"

"I found it on the intruder's body… two rifles, actually," Miles said, taking a shaky breath.

"Alright," the officer said, closing his notebook. "Thank you for cooperating."

Miles left the room, relief and exhaustion weighing him down.

Corvin's interrogation was different. He sat in silence, the officer's questions bouncing off him like empty echoes.

"Why weren't you in class like everyone else?"

Corvin said nothing.

"You need to cooperate," the officer pressed.

Still nothing.

"Okay… next question," the officer sighed, frustration creeping in. "Were you connected to the intruders?"

Corvin shook his head slowly, left to right. The officer scribbled notes. "Glad to see some cooperation," he muttered, exhaling in exasperation.

"Were you involved in the shot to Nysa's shoulder?"

Corvin remained silent.

"Did you kill anyone?"

"Yes," he admitted quietly. "But they attacked me first. I only defended myself."

"And the weapon?"

Corvin stayed silent. The officer closed his notebook. "That's all for now. When you're ready, you can answer the remaining questions."

Corvin left without another word, leaving Miles staring after him with worry.

"You okay, Corvin?" Miles asked softly.

Corvin didn't respond. He left the police station without looking back.

Miles called after him, voice cracking, "Where are you going!?"

But Corvin disappeared into the night.

When Corvin returned home, horror awaited. His house was engulfed in flames. Through the smoke, he saw his parents, lifeless, their bodies riddled with gunshot wounds. He ran forward, desperate, but the police held him back. The ambulance rushed them away to the hospital as firefighters battled the fire.

Corvin's phone buzzed. He picked it up, seeing an anonymous message:

"I will make you suffer. Your parents and your home are only the beginning. If you hadn't killed my people, this wouldn't have happened."

Tears fell. His hands shook over the phone.

"I have nothing left… they're gone," he whispered, voice hollow. "Why keep living?"

He ran to a nearby bridge, staring at the water below. He leapt but a hand caught him midair.

Shock froze him. He looked up at a figure in a suit and sunglasses, calm and imposing.

"I saved you," the man said.

"Why… why did you save me? I didn't want to be saved!" Corvin shouted, anger and grief twisting together.

The man's lips curved into a faint smile. "My name is Riku Morita. I can help you get revenge. Do you want it?"

Corvin hesitated. "How… how do you know me?"

"My boss told me to watch you. You might be useful."

Corvin's thoughts raced-but slowly, a dark resolve grew. "Fine… I'll do it. What do I need to do?"

Riku pointed to a waiting limousine. "Follow me."

Moments later, a sedative took hold of Corvin as he was forced inside. Darkness swallowed him.

Corvin woke, blindfolded and bound. Panic surged. "Where am I? What did you do to me?"

"Don't remove the blindfold yet," Riku instructed.

A deep, commanding voice echoed in the room. "Remove it."

Corvin obeyed, revealing a figure of authority-the boss.

"I will answer your questions… after you answer mine," the boss said coldly.

"Okay," Corvin whispered, fear trembling in his voice.

"Have you ever killed someone?"

"Yes," Corvin admitted.

"Do you want to work for me, to take revenge for your friends?"

"Yes."

"Will you kill if necessary?"

"If it's for revenge, yes."

"Even knowing you could die?"

"Yes."

"Good. Complete the mission I give you. Succeed, and you will officially work for me. Understood?"

"Yes," Corvin replied.

"Your target will be revealed when you arrive," the boss said.

"Ok, may i go now" corvin said quietly.

The boss calmly nodded and riku

Took corvin out of the place

The evening air was cool, but a shadow of unease lingered.

He walked toward the bus station, his footsteps echoing softly. "It's… way too dark here," he whispered to himself.

Suddenly, a figure appeared behind him a masked man. Before Corvin could react, a sharp blow struck the back of his head. Pain exploded through his skull, and darkness swallowed him.

When he came to, Corvin found himself in a stark white room. Panic surged through him.

"Where… where am I?!Why did you take me?!" Corvin shouted, his voice echoing off the sterile walls.

an unknown voice said. "I'll tell you who I am… when you manage to get out of here,"voice low and ominous.

"I'm not here to play your games! I don't have time for this!" Corvin yelled.

A wooden sword lay on the table.

"You'll need this," the captor said.

Corvin's heart pounded. "If I do as you say… I can leave?"

"Yes," the voice confirmed.

"You must Knockout all the enemies in the upcoming rooms. There are rules: 1. You cannot take the enemies' weapons. 2. You have a strict time limit of 30 minutes per room. 3. Fail to eliminate all enemies before time runs out… and you die."

Corvin grasped the wooden sword tightly. "Okay… I'll survive this."

The first room was a lush garden, deceptively peaceful, hiding three enemies wielding wooden swords. Corvin crouched low, analyzing their positions. One on three… I need to isolate them.

He crawled behind trees, silent as a shadow. When the first enemy turned, Corvin struck him in the head, knocking him unconscious. One down… two left.

The next enemy lunged. Corvin dodged, jumped onto two small trees, he was fully clothed in black and a black mask, and the other enemies as well. and landed behind him, striking his head. Pain shot through his left hand, but he adapted quickly. I can still use my right.

The clock ticked fifteen minutes left. Corvin moved carefully since he had time for the final opponent.

Corvin spotted two tall trees, standing side by side. His mind raced. I've got an idea.

With a running leap, he jumped onto both trees, using them to gain height.

"Ha! There's no way you'll climb that," a voice taunted him.

Enemy Two reached for the tree, trying to follow.

Just as I hoped, Corvin thought, teeth gritted. He leapt at the enemy and struck him on the head with his wooden sword.

Pain shot through Corvin's left hand as he landed. Lucky… I'm right-handed, he thought grimly.

Clock: 15 minutes remaining.

"Okay… that's enough time. Where's the last one?" Corvin muttered, moving stealthily.

"Behind you!" a voice shouted.

Corvin spun around but not fast enough. The enemy's sword grazed him. Thinking quickly, he raised his left hand to block further strikes, stepping back with careful precision.

"How long have you been following me?" Corvin demanded, breath quick.

"All this time!" the enemy snarled.

Corvin froze. What?! He's been watching me from the beginning?

"I've been following you since the start!" the enemy growled.

"Then why didn't you kill me from the beginning?" Corvin asked, incredulous.

"I wanted to see if you were worthy to fight me!"

He's huge… strong… there's a good chance I'll die here, Corvin thought, heart pounding.

Clock: 10 minutes remaining.

I don't have time to think. I need a plan, fast!

The enemy charged at him. Corvin stepped left to dodge.

"Good! Give me a proper fight!" the enemy yelled.

Corvin sprinted backward, buying space. Why is he so fast? I have to think!

The enemy pursued, but Corvin ducked behind a tree and vanished from sight.

"Where are you?! Don't hide from me!" the enemy shouted.

Corvin crept closer, calculating. The enemy grabbed his sword mid-strike, unaware Corvin was on his head. With a leap, Corvin landed behind him.

Clock: 5 minutes remaining.

I have no ideas left… I'm going to die. I don't want to die…

Corvin attacked, but his blows barely connected.

"I thought you were stronger! You don't want to leave this place? Don't you have people to protect?!" the enemy taunted.

Yes… I want to protect my friends! I'll kill him if I have to! Corvin thought fiercely, gripping the sword with renewed determination.

He thrust the blade toward the enemy's chest, but the foe noticed and blocked it.

Thinking fast, Corvin feinted, then swung the sword behind the enemy's head, striking him squarely.

The enemy fell, unconscious, his body trembling from the blow.

A mysterious voice echoed through the room:

"You've advanced to the next stage in 28 minutes! Take the boss's key to proceed to Stage Two!"

Corvin's eyes darted to his pocket. Inside, he found a small, metallic key.

So there's a boss for every stage… great, he muttered, a mixture of frustration and relief washing over him.

Corvin took a deep breath. To protect my friends… I'll do whatever it takes. I will survive.
