Chapter 1 - Harbour

A single sun sat between the ocean, and the clouds that followed the sky.

"Why?" a raspy distilled voice said.

Silas said it, he was looking directly at the sun with dark mellow eyes. He had hair that appeared a black, ghostly ink. His white skin pale against the sun.

He was leaning against a railing, his head barely conquered over the edge. His eyes mirrored the cloudy white sky, a golden light of the sun, and a endless ocean that reflected like a mirror.

The sunset that was always certain, the mere presence of the sun shifted the very movement of the world: waves flowed like rivers, winds were sucked thin, even his woolly, ragged clothes wanted the warmth of the light, although that was probably just the wind blowing past him.

His head lowered from the railing towards the wooden floorboard beneath his feet.

".."

His mind began to drift like spilled black ink across paper.

There he was again, not there in person but the memory was real enough.

A room filled with light that didn't help him see, his dimly lit perception only reached as far as his breath. The feeling was like being a criminal in a courtroom waiting to be prosecuted.

"Silas" a word that cut the silence, was said clear but sounded like a mumble in the ears of Silas.

Although he couldn't see past the dark fog he looked toward the dark figure that mumbled it.

Step, step, step. Each step growing clearer.

A person wearing a suit stood directly in front of Silas, before kneeling down.

Silas watched, standing there, moving only his head to track the figure.

She put one hand gently on Silas's shoulder and said

"Don't worry you're not in trouble, Silas we're just trying to help you." She spoke softly, but this time her words were clear.

"Sil-"

The golden hue returned from a rough pat.

A hand the size of Silas's head, probably bigger, abruptly patted him on the back.

"Hey there Silas"

"Garden?"

"Yeah I'm garden, I'm gonna be watching over you now."

This wasn't there first time meeting.

He was dads friend, garden a rough man with a board figure, and a very unkept beard.

"Ask me anything about anything and I'll answer."

"Anything at all" he said again

Silas stared blankly before moving his jaw to form a word.

"How do you become a guardian"

Garden gave him a gentle pat on the back then layed his eyes on the sun his face still carrying a soft smile.

"It's faith turned into responsibility"

"Simple right?"

Silas barely nodded.

'What is that supposed to mean'

Silas thought, even though he agreed seconds prior.

The boat they were sailing on was a mix between a military carrier and a small cruise ship, it held 200 rooms, and was called a "vessel", a ship that didn't look old in the slightest it wasn't futuristic it was just a lump of perfectly designed metal.

"We're going to be at the harbour soon" Garden said.

Each harbour was apart of a city, each city named after a famous guardian.

"The city of Ausios." Garden said

"Do you know him?"

"Never met him."

"Have you met any famous guardians?"

Garden gave him a hopeful smile.

"Nope, not at all."

'This guys useless'

The city of Ausios sat facing the south sea, baring a harbour great enough to supply and ship that sailed on the sea, but only if that was an official ship.

The city of Ausios was even bigger than the harbour its land stretching 5 times more than that of the harbour, the harbour was gray, the city was built on brick that appeared a colored clay, and what sat on the opposite of the sea was a large jagged mountain that casted a small shadow onto the outskirt of the city.

Garden spoke

"It won't be long now."

"What won't be?"

"An exhibition"

An exhibition, a journey that serves the purpose of gathering intel on the opposite side of the world.

"So when's that"

"A day"

A day until they set out to go deeper into the dark continent.
