Chapter 2 - Chapter 2:The Mark

Zara's heart was still racing from Alexander's words: "Some secrets… have a way of finding you before you're ready."

She remained frozen, staring at the door after he left. The soft click of it closing echoed through the office, leaving her alone—but the sense of tension lingered. Her pulse quickened, and a part of her whispered that her life had just shifted in ways she didn't yet understand.

That's when she noticed it—a small, plain white envelope on the edge of Alexander's desk. It hadn't been there before.

Her fingers trembled as she reached for it. The paper was heavier than normal, almost as if it carried a weight beyond itself. Carefully, she opened it.

Inside was a photograph, slightly faded at the edges. A young girl stood in front of the very building she now worked in—but the building looked older, almost as though it belonged to another time.

Zara frowned, studying the image. Who is this? And why leave it for me?

Her eyes fell on a tiny mark on the girl's wrist, barely noticeable, yet strangely familiar. Her breath caught in her throat. Something about it tugged at the edge of her memory, a whisper of recognition she couldn't place.

Suddenly, a soft rustle made her spin around. The office appeared empty. She wasn't alone—but no one was visible.

Her phone buzzed violently in her bag. She pulled it out, hands shaking. A new message glowed on the screen:

"Look closer. Some things are not what they seem."

Zara's pulse raced. Who had sent this? How did they know she was here?

The air felt colder, heavier. Shadows stretched longer across the office floor. Every instinct screamed that she was no longer safe—and that the photograph, Alexander, and this mysterious message were all connected.

A sudden sound near the window made her freeze. A shadow flickered across the glass, gone almost instantly.

Zara's heart thumped. Her life had just entered a world she didn't understand… and she had no idea what was coming next.
