The dungeon had fallen completely silent.
Dust slowly settled across the broken stone floor while the massive corpse of the monster lay motionless in the center of the chamber. The glowing cracks across its body had faded, leaving behind nothing but dark, lifeless stone.
But something else was happening.
The shadows around the corpse were moving.
Arin stood frozen, staring at the strange scene unfolding in front of him. His chest rose and fell rapidly as he tried to catch his breath.
Moments ago he had been nothing more than the weakest hunter in the entire city.
An F-Rank hunter who could barely survive even the smallest dungeon raids.
Yet now…
He had just defeated a monster far beyond his level.
And the glowing blue system screen hovering in front of his eyes proved that this wasn't a dream.
[Shadow Extraction in Progress…]
The message pulsed slowly.
Dark smoke began rising from the monster's corpse.
At first it was faint, almost invisible.
But within seconds the smoke grew thicker.
The shadows on the dungeon floor twisted and stretched unnaturally as if something inside them was trying to escape.
Arin took a step back.
"What… is this?"
Behind him, the surviving hunters stared in disbelief.
No one spoke.
Even Mira seemed completely stunned.
She had watched the entire battle.
She had seen Arin die.
And now she was watching something far stranger happen.
The monster's corpse suddenly trembled.
CRACK.
A deep sound echoed through the chamber.
The dark smoke rising from the corpse condensed together, forming a massive shape.
Slowly…
A gigantic shadow pulled itself out of the monster's body.
The creature that emerged looked almost identical to the monster Arin had just killed.
But its body was made entirely of darkness.
Its eyes glowed with a deep violet light.
The shadow monster stood silently for a moment.
Then it turned toward Arin.
The entire dungeon seemed to grow colder.
Arin felt his heart skip a beat.
The creature slowly lowered itself onto one knee.
"My… King."
The deep voice echoed through the chamber like distant thunder.
Every hunter in the room froze.
"What… did it just say?" someone whispered.
Mira stared at Arin with wide eyes.
The shadow monster remained kneeling, its head lowered in absolute obedience.
Arin blinked several times.
"My… king?"
The system screen appeared again.
[Shadow Soldier Successfully Created]
[Shadow Type: Stone Guardian]
[Rank: B]
[Status: Loyal]
[Command Authority Granted]
Arin stared at the floating messages.
This was real.
The monster he had defeated had become his soldier.
His shadow soldier.
Slowly, he took a step closer.
The shadow creature didn't move.
It simply waited.
Arin hesitated for a moment before speaking.
"…Stand."
The shadow monster instantly obeyed.
The massive creature rose to its full height.
Even though its body was made of darkness, its presence still felt overwhelmingly powerful.
Arin felt a strange connection in his mind.
It was almost like he could sense the shadow's thoughts.
Not words exactly.
More like… instincts.
The shadow was waiting for his orders.
One of the surviving hunters suddenly shouted.
"Arin! What the hell is that thing?!"
Arin turned around.
The other hunters were staring at him as if they had just seen a ghost.
Which, in a way…
They had.
Mira slowly walked forward.
Her sword was still in her hand, but she didn't raise it.
Instead she looked directly at Arin.
"You were dead," she said quietly.
Arin didn't answer.
Because he didn't know how to explain what had happened.
Even he barely understood it himself.
The system screen appeared again.
[New Mission Available]
[Emergency Dungeon Objective]
[Destroy the Dungeon Core]
[Reward: Experience + Skill Unlock]
Arin's eyes widened.
"The dungeon core…"
Every dungeon had one.
A magical crystal that maintained the Gate.
Destroying it would close the dungeon permanently.
Mira spoke again.
"We need to destroy the core before more monsters appear."
She glanced at the shadow monster standing behind Arin.
"…And I think you might be the only one who can do it."
Arin looked down at his hands.
Only a few minutes ago, he had been powerless.
Now he had a B-Rank shadow soldier standing behind him.
The system had changed everything.
He turned toward the dark tunnel leading deeper into the dungeon.
"Let's finish this."
The group slowly moved forward.
The shadow monster followed closely behind Arin like a silent guardian.
None of the other hunters dared to get too close to it.
The deeper they went into the dungeon, the colder the air became.
Finally they reached a massive chamber.
At the center of the room floated a glowing red crystal.
The Dungeon Core.
But something else stood in front of it.
A tall humanoid monster covered in black armor.
Its eyes burned with blue flames.
Mira's expression darkened immediately.
"That's a Dungeon Guardian."
The creature slowly drew a massive sword.
Its burning eyes locked onto Arin.
Then it spoke.
"You… carry the power of shadows."
The hunters froze.
Monsters weren't supposed to talk.
The guardian raised its sword.
"The Shadow King's power should not exist in this world."
Arin felt the system screen flash again.
[Warning]
[High-Level Enemy Detected]
[Recommended Action: Combat]
The guardian pointed its sword directly at him.
"If you truly carry that power…"
"Then prove it."
The dungeon trembled.
The final battle had begun.
