Aire stared at the hand reaching toward her.
"...it's time."
Those words felt like a death sentence to Aire.
For a second, neither of them moved.
Aire did the only thing she could. She tried to step back and surprisingly, she stepped back. It worked.
The movement was small, pathetic, and terrified, but it was movement.
The fae woman's smile widened.
"Oh." She sounded delighted. "You do have a little fight in you."
Aire's heart hammered against her ribs.
The mist pressed against her from every direction.
Aire swallowed. "No."
The fae tilted her head. "No?" she repeated, almost mockingly as she took her time enjoying the challenge.
"I'm not going anywhere with you."
The woman laughed. The laugh almost sounded affectionate, and somehow that made it worse.
"You think you have a choice."
Aire's pulse jumped. She forced herself to move, and she took another step backward. Then another.
The woman watched every movement with a calm, patient, and certain gaze.
