Mitchell didn't bother knocking. She had come directly to Beta Kole's estate today. She doesn't want to negotiate anymore.
The door slammed against the wall hard enough that both occupants looked up. She wasn't coming here to beg anymore.
The scent of old wood and burning candles filled the room.
Beta Kole sat in his usual chair near the fireplace, relaxed and composed as though he hadn't spent months pulling strings around her life.
Hannah stood beside the table with her arms folded, with her expression sharp as she watched and waited.
Mitchell stopped in the center of the room. Her hands trembled from fury. The same fury she'd been carrying since leaving Aire's room the day Aire stuck her.
That day, she had laughed because she saw how the disappointment settled into the eyes of the only friend she'd ever truly had, and it almost ripped her apart at the spot, but she couldn't cry.
Instead she laughed.
