Chapter 26 - Star Wars: Through Time 26: Betrayals and Secrets

Luke and Leia entered the chamber where Master Yoda awaited.

"Master Yoda," Luke said, sitting beside him. Yoda gestured for Leia to do the same on his other side.

"The future has many forms; we must learn to interpret them," Yoda said.

"Master Yoda, do you think we have truly changed the future?" Luke asked. "Won't Dad become Darth Vader?" Luke asked excitedly, and Yoda tapped him with his staff.

"What have I done now?" Luke asked as Leia laughed.

"Nothing is decided. So far, you have changed the way things were going to happen, but it is still your mission to prevent your father from falling to the dark side completely."

"Nothing is decided. So far, you have changed the way things were going to happen, but it is still your mission to prevent your father from falling to the dark side for good." "That was our mission. But how can we do it?" Luke asked, confused.

"You must teach him to control his anger," Yoda said. "Skywalker is strong and powerful, but I see much anger in him."

"That's because he hasn't yet seen Leia when she's angry," Luke whispered, and Leia glared at him.

"You must be vigilant, not only with Skywalker," Yoda said, leaving them confused. "Palpatine may be seeking a new ally."

"Master Yoda, do you know this ally Han spoke of?" Luke asked.

"I suspect so," Yoda said, and warned the twins to be careful.

Anakin and Padmé had retreated to Padmé's apartment; now the Jedi knew.

"I need to talk to you about something," Padmé said, sitting on Anakin's lap. He just smiled.

"Do you want to spend the night with me because you've missed me so much?" he asked, hugging her and making her laugh.

"Maybe," Padmé said, giving him a quick kiss on the lips.

"If not that, then what could it be?" Anakin asked curiously, stroking his wife's waist to distract her.

"Ani," Padmé said nervously, but then regained her composure. "When all this is over, when the whole plan against Palpatine is finished, I'll announce our marriage publicly."

"What?" Anakin said, surprised. "Angel, that would cause you a lot of trouble in the Senate," he said worriedly. "If they find out you've been married for years without saying so, it would be a scandal."

"But you would be by my side," Padmé said, smiling and silencing him with a kiss.

"Angel," Anakin insisted, but Padmé kissed his neck, and he couldn't think of any arguments to counter her.

"Angel," Anakin insisted, but Padmé kissed his neck, and he couldn't think of any arguments to argue with her.

"Angel," Anakin said. "Just kiss me," Padmé said, then fell into his arms, feeling strangely happy after that day's confession.

They woke up on the same living room sofa, laughter filling them both. They quickly got ready for their daily tasks.

Padmé entered her office and was surprised to find the chancellor there. She had planned to speak with him anyway, but him waiting for her was something new.

"I was expecting you, Padmé," the chancellor smiled.

"I apologize for the delay, chancellor," Padmé said, blushing. "I was a little busy."

"Did you give my regards to Anakin?" the chancellor asked, making her blush even more.

"Of course," Padmé replied a few minutes later.

"I've come to talk about what you told me yesterday," the chancellor said, visibly anxious.

"I was going to stop by his office about that in a few hours," Padmé replied.

"I think we should do it right now. Do you think Anakin will agree?" the chancellor asked, and Padmé smiled.

"Of course he'll agree, Chancellor. It's what Anakin has always wanted," Padmé said with a radiant smile.

"I want you to give him your full support, to make sure he agrees," the chancellor said. "Go, Senator. You can't fail. I expect you to be outside the temple when I arrive," the chancellor said, and Padmé nodded.

"But, Chancellor, wouldn't it be suspicious if I went with Anakin to the Jedi Temple?" Padmé asked.

"Of course not. You'll come with me," the chancellor said.

Padmé left his office with a smile and contacted Obi-Wan and Anakin, who would be responsible for informing the council. No one could make a mistake; no one could allow Palpatine to suspect that the Jedi already knew everything.

Padmé was with Anakin in the temple, in the place the chancellor had told them about. Anakin pretended to be nervous, unsure of what he was doing there.

"Chancellor," he greeted respectfully.

"Anakin," the Chancellor smiled. "Thank you for letting him know, Senator Amidala."

"What's going on here?" Anakin asked.

"I'm afraid, Anakin, that the council is turning against the Senate," the Chancellor said, sounding sad, and Anakin pretended to believe him.

"That's impossible, Chancellor. How could they betray you?" he asked.

"That's why I need you, my boy."

"What do you need from me?" Anakin asked, feigning confusion.

"I need you to be my eyes on the council," the Chancellor said, and Anakin turned away.

"Anakin, this is very important to the Chancellor, and to you," Padmé said, placing a hand on Anakin's shoulder as she looked at the Chancellor with a smile.

"The council chooses its members. They'll never accept me there," Anakin said.

"They will. I'll speak to them myself." The chancellor said, "The Temple needs a Jedi like you, the most powerful of all. You would be a better master than Yoda." He gestured to Padmé to convince him.

"Anakin, it's what you've always wanted."

"Do you think they'll accept me, Chancellor?" Anakin asked, his eyes hopeful.

"Of course they will, my boy. They'd be fools not to," Palpatine said.

The meeting with the council was almost immediate. Palpatine presented his arguments, and the council listened attentively. Padmé waited outside. She knew what would happen, and she knew she had to keep up the charade.

"We accept you into the council," said Mace Windu, staring intently at Anakin, who smiled at the chancellor. "But we do not grant you the rank of master."

"What?" Anakin said, feigning surprise. "That's right," he began, clenching his fists.

"That's only fair, Anakin," said Obi-Wan, walking toward him, pretending to calm him. "You haven't earned the rank of master."

"I can't believe you're doing this to me, Master," Anakin said, removing his hand from his shoulder and leaving.

"What have you done?" asked Palpatine, feigning concern for Anakin. Everything he had hoped for had just happened.

"We will not grant you the rank of master, but we will accept your presence here," Mace Windu repeated.

"I will accept the decision of this wise council," Palpatine sighed and left.

When the chancellor left, Padmé pretended to follow Anakin, who locked himself in his chambers in the temple. Inside, she even felt like laughing.

"Anakin, please, I know you're upset," Padmé said when the chancellor arrived. "Open the door."

After several long minutes, Anakin opened the door, tears in his eyes.

"Ani," Padmé said, throwing her arms around his neck.

"Padmé, what are you doing?" "The Chancellor," Anakin said when Padmé kissed him.

"I know everything, my boy," the Chancellor said, and Anakin looked surprised.

"You see, everything has an explanation," Anakin said, but the Chancellor waved a hand, indicating that he shouldn't worry, and sat down on Anakin's bed.

"What they've done to you is horrible, my boy," the Chancellor said, feigning disappointment. "I fear the Jedi have lost their common sense."

"I can't believe Obi-Wan betrayed me," Anakin said angrily.

"They envy you, Anakin," the Chancellor said. "You will be the most powerful Jedi of all someday."

"I'm sorry to be impertinent, Chancellor," Anakin said irritably. "I'd like to be alone," he requested.

When the Chancellor left, Anakin asked Padmé to leave, and she sadly did.

"I don't understand how they were able to do this," said the Chancellor, smiling inwardly.

"You were right, Chancellor, they envy him," said Padmé, feigning surprise.

"You must always be by his side," said the Chancellor.

"I will, Chancellor," said Padmé, smiling.

When the Chancellor left, Padmé insisted on staying a little longer to try to talk to Anakin. She was on her way to her room to laugh about the situation when she saw Leia running down the hall.

"Did everything go well?" asked Leia.

"Of course it did," smiled Padmé. "Why are you running?" asked Padmé, confused.

"Luke said he had to do something. He took a ship and left," said Leia, worried.

"Did Han go with him?" asked Padmé.

"Yes, again they didn't tell me where they were going," she cursed under her breath.

"We'll go after him," said Padmé, running toward Anakin's room.

They arrived at Anakin's room and quickly left in Looking for Luke.

"I think I specifically told Han not to do this," Anakin grumbled, piloting his ship. Luckily, he'd put a tracker on Han's stupid ship, just in case they got the idea to do something stupid again.

"Where are you headed?" Anakin asked as he piloted.

"Oh, Ani, you're going to Mustafar," Padmé said, worried.

"Oh no, she's going after that guy," Leia said, surprised.

"What guy?" Padmé asked.

"The one who rescued us from Mustafar," Leia said.

"How do you know she's going after him?" Anakin asked.

"Because he knows who he is," she said.

They arrived on Mustafar. Han's ship wasn't far from where they landed, but they couldn't see each other anywhere. There was no sign that the factory was operational again, which was very strange. In fact, it looked like the place had been destroyed recently. The only thing they could wonder was if Luke was alright. They searched everywhere but found absolutely nothing. Until suddenly they heard voices in the distance.

"Kid, we have to go back. Your father will cut me into pieces so small that not even a butcher could tell the difference!" Han shouted, and as they moved closer, they saw him grab Han by the shoulders. They decided it was best to hide and see what was going on.

"She's here!" Luke shouted, searching everywhere. "She did this. I'd recognize her anywhere," Luke said, pushing Han aside to continue the search.

"Kid, for her to be here, she'd have to have come from the damn future!" Han shouted again, grabbing Luke's shoulder to force him to look at him. "Do you think Obi-Wan and Yoda would send a damn assassin from the future?"

"Maybe it wasn't them," Luke shouted. "What if the Emperor found out? What if he sent her here to thwart our plans?"

"If it were her, she would have done it already. She wouldn't have saved you; she would have tried to kill you!" Han shouted, tempted to hit the boy to snap him out of it.

"I have to find her," Luke said, searching for any clue, anything that would indicate it was who he thought it was.

"I have to find her." "Luke, we have to go, they'll find us," Han said, pulling out his blaster. If he had to knock the brat out, he would.

"Wait," Luke said, using the Force to snatch the weapon from Han, who just rolled his eyes.

"Luke, if your damned, disgusting father hits me, I swear on the love I have for your sister that I'll hit you many more times," Han said, searching alongside Luke.

"Here," Luke said, picking up a black cloak. "It's hers," Luke said seriously.

"You realize that's impossible, right? It could belong to anyone," Han said, desperate to get out of there.

"I don't know what that means. It could belong to anyone." "Not entirely," Luke said, sitting down with the garment in his hands. "Not if the Emperor has discovered the way."

"There's no way. I'm not Force-sensitive. I don't understand anything about the Force, except that I'll probably be Force-strangled if I don't bring you here now," Han said thoughtfully. "But I'm sure Yoda and Obi-Wan would never send an assassin to this time, and the damned Emperor has no way to do it. Otherwise, he would have saved Vader from being a cyborg. He was more useful to him as a whole than as a damned piece of mechanical junk!" Han shouted, losing his patience. "Come on, or I'll really drag you," Han said.

"The World Between Worlds," Luke said, and Han started cursing. Not that stupid theory again. "You know it's real."

"Kid," Han said more calmly, "Why do you think he'd send her?" You're imagining things, come on.

"Because even if Vader still existed in the future, he wouldn't send him, not with Dad still existing in this timeline, not with Mom alive, not with Obi-Wan alive, not knowing that could awaken his light side. He'd send her, the second person he trusts most," Luke said, and everything was starting to make sense.

"Then we should go and tell them," Han said. They had a much bigger problem on their hands.

"She saved us, don't you understand?" Luke asked, taking the garment. "Why would she do that?"

"Because she wants to be the one to kill us," Luke said with a sigh.

"She couldn't kill you in Jabba's palace. Do you think she'll keep trying now?" Han asked.

"Do you think she'd give up?" Luke asked.

"Fine, I don't care if you're imagining things. We're going," Han said, walking toward his ship while dragging Luke along with him. They continued walking in silence until Han looked in horror at the ship parked very close to them.

"I'm already dead," he said, closing his eyes just like Luke. How could they have forgotten to remove the tracker?
