"My husband, son, and pregnant daughter-in-law were brutally murdered because we had compromising material on very influential people. I miraculously survived, and I decided to fight," Susan said firmly. "The compromising material I had, I gave to journalists, bloggers, everyone I could. Even if I'm killed — this wave can't be stopped. Taking this opportunity, I want to announce that I intend to run for president. My husband and son were worthy people; they gave their lives to make our country better."
Watching TV, Ray said:
"That was a good speech, Madam President."
"I haven't been elected yet," Susan replied. "I've fulfilled all your conditions. When can I see my daughter?"
"Your daughter will be raised by the 'Devils.' That also applies to your granddaughter, if she can be born."
Seeing the doubt in the woman's eyes, Ray explained:
"I'm not going to kill the child or your children, despite my hatred for them. But she will be raised by those I trust. Besides, two little ones will be an excellent deterrent for you in case you decide to take revenge once you have power."
"Isn't the poison you injected me with enough?" the woman smirked.
"The poison we gave you has been taken by all the 'Devils,' as well as all their relatives and even me. I should have done this sooner. My indecision cost me dearly, and I won't allow it again. As long as you behave, the girls will be safe. You'll even be able to see them."
Violet needed time to prepare for the conversation, but she finally decided to approach Ray, who was sitting at the bar.
"I thought you didn't drink," she remarked with a smirk.
"I thought so too, but people change. You've become a real beauty. I'm sure your sister and grandmother would be proud of you. And the fact that I'm here now shows that you're a true professional. I must admit, a small part of me even regrets it."
"I'm truly sorry for how I acted. When my sister died, I was a child. As I grew older, I became ashamed of my behavior. Even though I don't know how you coped, I've always respected you for it. Thank you for recording books for me — I still listen to them."
"Thank you for your help, but you shouldn't get more involved than necessary."
Violet understood that Ray's gratitude wasn't sincere — it showed the man truly wanted to die, while his concern for her was completely genuine.
"I want to see the lives of those who made my sister suffer turn into hell. Not to mention they killed my nieces."
"By the way, have you made me an uncle yet?" Ray asked with a smirk, which looked quite frightening.
"No, I haven't. I had relationships, but I always saw falseness in them. After what I saw between you and my sister, everything I had seemed fake."
"What Lily and I had will be very hard to replicate. You could chase after something like that your whole life and never find it."
"Actually, your sister sent me. She's very worried and wanted me to talk to you. We both needed this conversation, but I know she wanted me to stop you from committing suicide. The truth is, I don't know how to do that."
"I can be used as a scarecrow. I've lost my family twice, I'm confined to a wheelchair, and I'm missing an arm. Even in my best state, I wasn't a very good brother, father, or husband, let alone now."
"Your relationship with my sister became an example of a good relationship for me, so I think you would have been a good husband. From what I know, for Yuno, you're a replacement for everything; for Deya, you're not just a brother, father, and friend."
"The result of that is that I sleep with Yuno," Ray said with a smirk.
"We both know she was the one who initiated that kind of relationship."
"They both think they can't live without me. But I think if I'm not in their lives, they'll be better off. And even if I'm wrong, I have no desire to live on, and I don't think it will come back."
