Chapter 75 - Chapter 75: What Breaks Cannot Be Hidden

They didn't speak for a while after that.

The forest stretched endlessly ahead, but every step felt heavier than the last. The air itself seemed to press against them, thick with something unseen.

At the center of it all, Aria walked beside Alpha Kael, quieter than usual, her thoughts louder than anything around her.

She could still feel it.

That power.

Not gone.

Just… waiting.

"You're thinking too much again," Kael said without looking at her.

Aria huffed lightly. "You're starting to say that a lot."

"Because you keep doing it."

Ikechukwu walked a few steps behind them, his staff tapping softly against the ground.

Tok… tok… tok…

But even he wasn't joking this time.

Aria slowed slightly.

"…What if it's true?"

Kael glanced at her. "What?"

"That I broke something."

Kael didn't answer immediately.

Ikechukwu did.

"My sister…"

She turned slightly toward him.

"…some things suppose break."

Aria frowned.

"That doesn't sound comforting."

He shrugged lightly. "E no suppose sweet."

Kael finally spoke, his voice calm but firm.

"You didn't break it."

Aria raised a brow. "You just heard everything that happened and that's your conclusion?"

Kael stopped walking.

So did she.

He turned to face her fully.

"You didn't break the moon."

Pause.

"You exposed something that was already wrong."

That hit differently.

Aria held his gaze for a moment.

"…And what if that 'something' decides to fix itself?"

Kael's eyes darkened slightly.

"Then we deal with it."

Before she could respond—

The wind shifted.

Again.

Colder.

Sharper.

Familiar.

Ikechukwu stopped instantly.

"Una feel that?"

Kael's expression changed.

"I do."

Aria's chest tightened slightly.

"Yeah…"

But this time—

It wasn't the same as before.

This presence…

Was controlled.

Deliberate.

Not chaotic like the creatures.

Something else stepped into the clearing ahead of them.

A figure.

Tall.

Draped in a dark cloak that seemed to move even without wind.

Its face wasn't fully visible.

But its eyes—

Silver.

Bright.

Watching.

Ikechukwu's grip on his staff tightened.

"…This one different."

Kael stepped slightly in front of Aria.

"Stay back."

The figure tilted its head slightly.

Studying them.

Then—

It spoke.

"Subject identified."

Aria froze.

That voice—

It wasn't like the others.

It sounded…

Clearer.

More aware.

"You are the anomaly."

Aria stepped forward anyway.

Ignoring Kael's warning.

"I have a name."

Silence.

Then—

"Names are irrelevant."

Aria's jaw tightened.

"Not to me."

The figure didn't respond to that.

Its gaze dropped to her wrist.

"The mark has deviated."

Kael's voice turned sharp.

"State your purpose."

The figure looked at him briefly.

Then back at Aria.

"Assessment."

Ikechukwu muttered under his breath.

"…Na test again."

Aria crossed her arms slightly.

"Didn't your friends already try that?"

The figure didn't react.

"They were insufficient."

That wasn't comforting.

Aria felt her pulse quicken slightly.

"But you're not?"

The figure stepped forward.

One step.

And the air shifted instantly.

Heavier.

Sharper.

Different from before.

More controlled.

More dangerous.

"I am not here to force correction."

Pause.

"I am here to determine if you are worth preserving."

Silence.

That word hung in the air.

Preserving.

Kael's voice dropped dangerously low.

"She's not something you get to judge."

The figure ignored him completely.

Its attention stayed on Aria.

"Demonstrate control."

Aria frowned.

"Or what?"

A pause.

Then—

"Or be erased."

Ikechukwu exhaled slowly.

"…Wahala."

Kael stepped forward again.

"This conversation is over."

But Aria lifted her hand slightly.

Stopping him.

"No."

Both of them looked at her.

Her gaze stayed on the figure.

Steady.

Unshaken.

"You want to test me?"

The air around her shifted slightly.

Not exploding.

Not unstable.

Controlled.

"Fine."

Her eyes glowed faintly.

Silver.

"But we do this my way."

For the first time—

The figure paused.

Interested.

"Define your terms."

Aria's lips curved slightly.

"You don't come for me…"

Pause.

"…I come for you."

Ikechukwu blinked.

"…She don enter another level."

Kael didn't smile.

But his eyes…

They showed something new.

Trust.

The figure straightened slightly.

"Accepted."

The moment that word left its mouth—

Everything changed.

The ground beneath them hummed.

The air tightened.

The space itself seemed to bend.

And in that moment—

Aria realized something.

This wasn't just a test.

This was judgment.

And if she failed—

There would be no second chance.
