Chapter 1 - Gopal and the Magic Mango

Once upon a time, in a small village, there lived a naughty but funny boy named Gopal. He loved to play tricks and make people laugh. Everyone in the village knew Gopal because he was always doing something mischievous.

One hot afternoon, Gopal was walking through the village on his way to the market. As he walked, he saw a big mango tree full of ripe, yellow mangoes. The mangoes looked very delicious. Gopal suddenly felt very hungry and wanted to eat one.

But there was a problem. The mango tree belonged to the village headman, and no one was allowed to take mangoes without permission.

Gopal looked around. No one seemed to be there. He thought, "If I take just one mango, no one will notice."

So he quietly climbed the tree. Just when he reached for a mango, suddenly a big ripe mango fell straight on his head.

"Thump!"

Gopal got scared and quickly climbed down. Suddenly he heard a voice saying,

"Gopal, are you stealing mangoes?"

Gopal looked around but could not see anyone. He became very nervous and said,

"No, no! I was just looking at the tree."

The voice came again,

"Don't lie. I saw everything."

Gopal started shaking with fear. Finally he said,

"Okay, okay! I wanted to take a mango because I was very hungry."

Just then, the village headman came out from behind the tree and started laughing.

He said,

"I was the one talking! I just wanted to scare you a little."

Gopal felt embarrassed and lowered his head.

The headman smiled and said,

"If you steal, you will be punished. But if you tell the truth, you will be forgiven. Take these three mangoes and go home. But promise me you will never steal again."

Gopal happily took the mangoes and said,

"From today I will never steal again. But if the mangoes are very sweet, I might come back to ask for more!"

The headman and the villagers burst into laughter.
