Kat got about forty feet down the administration corridor before she heard wings behind her.
"S-Slow down!"
"I'm not walking that fast, Eva."
Eva took the steps two at a time to stay level with her.
"You were right. In there, I mean. And now, my mother is going to spend the whole dinner asking me why I refused joint origination on the single most valuable formation design of the decade. In writing, even."
"I imagine she's not too pleased, yes."
"She's gonna want to see letters," Eva continued. "By the time we start eating the fish she'll have concluded I must be down with something."
They came out into the long courtyard behind the administration wing. The afternoon crowd was thick, and two first-years stared at Kat and walked straight into each other.
"That's her. That's the signora."
"She's shorter than I thought."
Kat was smiling.
"Are you enjoying this?" Eva asked.
"A little bit. Yeah."
"Unbelievable. I don't think you appreciate the gravity of the situation!"
