Chapter 13 - Another Hunt day

I had received my first mission from Rias, and the girl paid quite handsomely.

I even thought she might try to buy me with money, but if she thinks I'm doing this for the cash, she's wrong.

I kill devils for the love of the game.

Ahem, this time I entered a cave in the forest.

There were human bones scattered around and a disgusting stench.

In the darkness, I could see perfectly — a lizard-like stray devil was standing there.

I think it's male, but eh, gender doesn't matter.

Anything that harms humans is evil in my book.

"You shouldn't have come here," a guttural voice came from the devil.

When it turned toward me, its eyes glowed bright red.

It lunged at me. These devils really don't learn.

It prefers not to use magic attacks because we're in close range, and if the cave collapses, it'll probably get crushed under the rocks.

It swung its left claw, and I slipped underneath it.

BAM

"AHHHH!!!"

I uppercutted it, and its jaw shattered.

It was a really tough guy, but whatever — killing devils like this has become a part of my life anyway.

"DIE! DIE! DIE!"

It was cursing me like crazy and attacking even more ferociously.

But none of its blows landed.

In fact, because it kept trying to hit me, it was just taking more damage.

Somehow it managed to grab my arm and tried to pull me toward itself, but I didn't budge.

I looked at it like it was an idiot: "Pathetic."

BAM

I kicked it in the waist, sending it crashing into the cave wall.

It was covered in blood.

The devil realized it was going to die and gave up.

"I-I didn't want to kill humans… They treated me like a slave… I tried to control this instinct inside me, but I couldn't…"

It was speaking very slowly.

Considering it was drenched in blood, I'd be surprised if it could speak normally.

I placed my hand on its shoulder.

Sometimes, after devils lose their minds, I beat them really badly — but it seems to bring back some of their old memories.

"Kill me… before I lose myself completely…"

"As you wish."

I drew Ebony and finished it with one shot to the head.

But damn… I really feel sorry sometimes.

Even if the Rias peerage acts like family, most noble devils treat their peerage like trash.

That's one of the reasons I didn't join them.

Sometimes there are things more important than money…

I left the cave and looked at the forest scenery.

The full moon above looked incredibly beautiful.

So I sat on a rock and decided to watch the stars too.

I could feel the wind gently stroking my hair.

I should finally feel happy, after killing this devil, I've reached low-ultimate class.

Now I'm curious… if I died, would I go to heaven?

Where would I go if I died? I'm wondering, but I don't like dwelling on questions that won't get answered.
