Chapter 17 - THEY FINALLY SPOKE

Olivia walked out of the hospital without saying another word.

The doctor's words echoed in her mind with every step she took.

"...You are already eight months pregnant."

"...You cannot go through an abortion."

She kept walking, her eyes fixed on the road ahead.

People passed by her.

Cars rushed through the streets.

The world carried on as if nothing had happened.

But to Olivia...

everything had already fallen apart.

After nearly an hour, she finally reached the small house where her mother lived.

She slowly opened the front door.

"Olivia!"

Her mother immediately walked toward her with a warm smile.

"How's the baby? Is my grandson healthy?"

Olivia forced a faint smile.

"The doctor said the baby is healthy... so you don't have to worry."

Her mother let out a sigh of relief.

"Thank God."

"I was so worried."

She gently placed her hand on Olivia's shoulder.

"You should get some rest. You look exhausted."

Olivia simply nodded.

She didn't tell her mother about Karl.

She didn't tell her about the casino.

She didn't tell her that she had begged the doctor to end her pregnancy.

Some truths were too painful to speak.

A few weeks passed.

The day finally arrived.

Olivia gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

The delivery was difficult, but both Olivia and the baby survived.

When her mother held her grandson in her arms for the very first time, tears of joy rolled down her cheeks.

"My grandson..."

She couldn't stop smiling.

She thanked God over and over, unable to hide her happiness.

Olivia looked at her newborn son lying beside her.

A faint smile appeared on her face.

She was happy...

But only a little.

It wasn't the smile of a mother whose life had become complete.

The baby was named Ravin.

A month passed.

Olivia took baby Ravin to the hospital for a routine check-up.

After examining both mother and child, the doctor asked Olivia if they could speak in private.

Olivia handed Ravin to her mother and followed the doctor into his office.

The doctor looked at her for a moment before speaking.

"Mrs. Olivia... physically, you're recovering well."

"But I'm concerned about your mental health."

Olivia remained silent.

"You've told me about the nightmares... the constant fear... how you feel emotionally numb... and the gaps in your memory."

He paused before continuing.

"Based on your symptoms, I believe you're suffering from Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, also known as Complex PTSD."

Olivia stared at him without saying a word.

"This doesn't mean you're weak," the doctor continued.

"It means you've been through severe and prolonged trauma."

"With proper treatment and support, many people learn to manage these symptoms."

"But if left untreated... they can affect your memories, your emotions, and the way you connect with other people."

The room fell silent.

Olivia lowered her head.

For the first time...

she realized that the wounds she carried were not only on her heart.

Olivia returned home in silence.

She walked into her room and slowly began packing her clothes and the few belongings she had left.

Her mother noticed and walked in.

"Olivia... what are you doing?"

Olivia zipped her bag and looked at her.

"I'm going back to my husband."

Her mother smiled.

"I knew everything would be alright between you two."

"You should've told me earlier."

Olivia forced a small smile.

"Yeah... I should have."

She didn't tell her mother about Karl's confession.

She didn't tell her about the night that changed everything.

She didn't tell her about the threats, the fear, or the diagnosis she had received at the hospital.

She told her none of it.

To her mother...

it looked like a daughter was finally returning to her husband.

But the truth was different.

Olivia had no idea where Karl was.

She didn't even know if she would ever see him again.

Yet she chose to leave anyway.

Some lies were easier to carry than the truth.

With baby Ravin in her arms and a bag over her shoulder, Olivia stepped out of the house.

Her mother stood at the doorway, smiling as she waved goodbye.

Olivia smiled back one last time.

Then she turned around and walked away, carrying secrets that no one else knew.

At first, Olivia rented a small house and tried to start over.

She searched for work every single day.

Days turned into weeks.

Money kept running out.

With a newborn child depending on her, survival slowly became more important than pride.

Eventually...

she accepted a job she had never imagined herself doing.

Not even in her worst nightmares.

Every day, a part of her disappeared.

The diagnosis the doctor had given her only made everything worse.

The warmth she once carried slowly faded away, leaving behind a woman who could barely recognize herself.

As for Karl...

He was already dead to her.

Not because he had died...

But because, in her heart, he no longer existed.

The man she had once loved had vanished the day he confessed the truth.

From that day onward...

Olivia never looked back.

On the other side...

Karl returned to the same house he had abandoned a month earlier.

He began living there with Ivan, trying to rebuild what little was left of his life.

The house looked the same.

But it no longer felt like home.

Every corner reminded him of Olivia.

Of the life they once had.

Karl never tried to go back to her.

Deep down, he already knew the answer.

After everything he had done...

Olivia could never accept him as her husband again.

So he stopped waiting for a day that would never come.

Instead, he devoted himself to raising Ivan, carrying the weight of his past with him every single day.

Back to the Present

The scene shifted back to the present.

Ravin stood beside Maria, who was still lying on the ground.

He gently reached for her wrist and checked her pulse.

Just then, Maria slowly opened her eyes.

She looked at him in confusion.

"Oh my God... I'm alive."

"What's wrong with you?"

"You're weird."

Ravin immediately pulled his hand back.

"Oh... okay."

"My bad."

"You kept passing out again and again, so I thought something was wrong."

"I'm sorry," Ravin said awkwardly.

Maria gave a faint smile.

"It's okay..."

"...Don't be sorry..."

Before she could finish, her voice cracked.

Tears suddenly rolled down her cheeks.

"Uh... ah..."

She covered her face for a moment before throwing her arms around Ravin.

She continued crying as she held him tightly.

"You..."

She looked into his eyes.

"You look just like him..."

"You must be his brother... right?"
