Chapter 11 - CHAPTER 11: SHADOWS RETURN

The night air was cool and quiet as Lily and Darius stood on the balcony overlooking the glowing city.

For a moment, everything felt perfect.

Lily leaned against him, feeling the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath her cheek. The lights of the city stretched endlessly before them, like thousands of tiny stars scattered across the earth.

But peace, Lily had learned, never lasted forever.

Behind them, the glass door to the penthouse slid open quietly.

Darius's body immediately stiffened.

He didn't even turn around before speaking.

"What is it?"

The man standing at the doorway hesitated before stepping forward. It was Marco, one of Darius's most trusted men. His face was tense, his eyes dark with worry.

"We have a problem, boss."

Darius slowly turned.

Lily felt his arm tighten protectively around her waist.

"What kind of problem?" Darius asked coldly.

Marco glanced at Lily, clearly unsure whether to speak.

Darius noticed.

"She stays," he said firmly.

Marco nodded.

"Someone has been asking about Lily."

The warmth in Lily's chest instantly vanished.

"What?" she whispered.

Darius's expression darkened.

"Who?"

Marco swallowed.

"We're not completely sure yet. But the name that keeps coming up…" he paused.

"…is Victor Romano."

The name meant nothing to Lily.

But the moment Marco said it, Darius's entire body went rigid.

And that terrified her.

"Darius?" Lily said softly.

He didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he stared out at the city lights again, his jaw tightening.

"That man should be dead."

A chill ran down Lily's spine.

"What do you mean?"

Darius finally looked at her.

His dark eyes were full of something she had rarely seen before.

Fear.

"Victor Romano was my father's greatest enemy," he said quietly. "Years ago, he tried to destroy our family."

"And?" Lily asked nervously.

"And I made sure he disappeared."

Marco spoke again.

"Apparently… he didn't disappear completely."

Lily's heart began to race.

"What does he want with me?"

Darius's gaze hardened.

"You."

"Me?" Lily asked.

"Yes."

Marco pulled out his phone and handed it to Darius.

"Someone sent this to our security network an hour ago."

Darius looked at the screen.

His face turned to stone.

Slowly, he turned the phone so Lily could see it.

Her breath caught in her throat.

It was a photograph.

A picture of her.

Taken earlier that day when she had been walking outside the café.

And written beneath it were five chilling words:

"Everything he loves can burn."

Lily's hands began to tremble.

"Darius…"

His arm tightened around her protectively.

"No one will touch you," he said quietly.

But Marco didn't look convinced.

"There's more, boss."

Darius's eyes narrowed.

"What?"

Marco hesitated again.

Then he said the words that made the night suddenly feel much darker.

"We believe Victor Romano is already in the city."

Silence fell over the balcony.

The peaceful night that had surrounded them moments ago now felt heavy and dangerous.

Lily could feel it.

The calm they had found…

was already starting to crack.

Darius took out his phone and dialed a number.

Within seconds someone answered.

"Lock down the house," Darius ordered. "Double the guards. No one enters without my permission."

"Yes, boss."

He hung up.

Then he turned to Lily.

"Pack a bag."

Her eyes widened.

"Why?"

"Because tonight," Darius said grimly, "you're not staying here."

"Where am I going?"

His voice dropped to a dangerous whisper.

"Somewhere even Victor Romano won't be able to find you."

But neither of them realized something terrifying.

Across the street from the penthouse tower…

A black car sat quietly in the shadows.

Inside the car, a man watched the balcony through a pair of binoculars.

A slow smile spread across his face.

"So," the man murmured.

"There you are, Lily."

Victor Romano lowered the binoculars.

"And now… the real game begins."
