Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 - Changing the Script

Liya barely slept that night.

Not that sleep mattered anymore.

When morning came, the rain returned exactly as before.

Same gray sky.

Same steady tapping against her window.

But this time, Liya woke up before the alarm.

Her mind was already racing.

Yesterday—no, the previous version of yesterday—Ethan had died at 11:59 PM.

A truck crash.

On the street near the café.

The memory made her stomach twist.

"Okay," she whispered to herself, sitting up.

"If the day repeats… then I already know what happens."

That meant one thing.

The future of this day wasn't random.

It was predictable.

And if it was predictable…

Maybe she could change it.

The morning unfolded exactly the same way as before.

The radio announced the weather.

The jogger in the blue jacket passed her on the street.

The woman dropped her umbrella at the café corner.

Liya noticed every detail now.

The world was running on a script.

And she was the only one who had seen the previous version.

By the time she reached the bookstore, her mind had already formed a plan.

Step one:

Meet Ethan earlier.

Step two:

Keep him away from that street tonight.

Step three:

Break the pattern.

She unlocked the bookstore door and stepped inside.

The hours crawled by slowly.

The same customers came.

The same conversations repeated.

Liya answered them automatically, barely paying attention.

Her eyes constantly drifted to the clock.

3:58 PM.

Her pulse quickened.

Two minutes.

She walked to the door and stood there, waiting.

3:59 PM.

Rain dripped steadily from the shop's awning.

Then—

4:00 PM.

Ding.

The bell rang.

Ethan stepped inside.

Just like before.

Rain on his jacket.

Messy hair.

That same relaxed smile.

"Sorry," he said casually.

"Didn't mean to bring half the rain—"

"I know," Liya interrupted.

He blinked.

"You… know?"

"You said it yesterday."

Ethan laughed lightly.

"I'm pretty sure I would remember meeting you."

"You wouldn't," she said quietly.

He tilted his head, amused.

"Okay… now I'm curious."

Liya walked closer to him.

Her heart was pounding.

"Your name is Ethan," she said.

He raised an eyebrow.

"You're traveling."

"Correct…"

"You like stories with painful endings."

Ethan stared at her.

"How do you know that?"

She hesitated.

Then said the one thing she was sure of.

"Because we've already had this conversation."

He studied her carefully, searching her expression for a joke.

But she wasn't smiling.

"You're serious," he said slowly.

"Completely."

Ethan leaned against a nearby bookshelf.

"Alright then," he said.

"If we've met before… what happens next?"

Liya swallowed.

Her voice came out quieter than she expected.

"You buy that book."

She pointed to the same novel sitting on the shelf.

"You leave the store."

"You stand outside the café down the street."

His expression shifted from amusement to curiosity.

"And then?" he asked.

Liya's chest tightened.

"And then… you die."

Silence filled the bookstore.

Rain tapped softly against the windows.

Ethan stared at her.

For a long moment, he didn't say anything.

Then he laughed.

Not cruelly.

Just disbelief.

"That's… a bold prediction."

"I'm not joking."

He looked at her again, more carefully this time.

"Alright," he said.

"Let's pretend I believe you."

He crossed his arms.

"How exactly do I die?"

Liya felt the memory flash in her mind.

Headlights.

The screech of tires.

The crash.

"A truck accident," she said quietly.

Ethan's smile faded slightly.

"And when does this happen?"

"Tonight."

His eyes flickered toward the window.

Rain blurred the view of the street outside.

He looked back at her.

"Okay," he said slowly.

"Let's say you're right."

He stepped closer.

"So what do we do about it?"

Liya felt a strange mix of fear and determination.

"Simple," she said.

"We change the script."

Ethan raised an eyebrow.

"The script?"

"Yes."

She took a deep breath.

"You don't go near that street tonight."

"And if I avoid it?"

"You live."

He studied her face for a long moment.

Then he smiled slightly.

"Well," he said.

"I guess that means I should stick close to you today."

Liya blinked.

"Why?"

He shrugged.

"If you already know the future…"

His smile grew playful.

"Seems like the safest place to be."

For the first time since the loop began…

Liya felt something new.

Hope.

Maybe the ending of this day didn't have to be the same.

Maybe the story could change. ⏳❤️
