Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Truth That Slipped

Two days later…

The small apartment was finally quiet again.

Mengmeng had returned the previous night after finishing her mission. Feng had also come back from his "business trip."

Both of them acted normal.

As if nothing unusual had happened.

Mengmeng was sitting on the couch reading some documents while Feng made tea in the kitchen.

The peaceful atmosphere almost made their strange life feel… normal.

Then—

Knock. Knock.

Feng frowned slightly.

"Who could that be?"

Mengmeng shrugged.

"Maybe a neighbor."

Feng walked to the door and opened it.

The moment he did—

His expression froze.

Standing outside was an elderly woman dressed elegantly, holding a walking stick.

Behind her stood two assistants.

"Grandma…"

His voice came out slowly.

Mengmeng looked up from the couch.

Grandma?

The old woman stepped inside confidently.

"So this is where you've been hiding."

Her eyes scanned the small apartment.

Then she turned toward Mengmeng.

Her sharp gaze softened slightly.

"And you must be the girl."

Mengmeng stood up politely.

"Hello, I'm Xu Mengmeng."

The old woman smiled.

"I'm Feng's grandmother."

Mengmeng bowed slightly.

"It's nice to meet you."

The grandmother looked around the apartment again.

Then sighed dramatically.

"My poor grandson."

Feng immediately groaned.

"Grandma…"

"You are the heir of one of the richest companies in the city," she continued loudly.

"And yet you are living in this tiny place."

Mengmeng froze.

Her brain stopped for a moment.

"…Heir?"

The grandmother looked confused.

"You didn't tell her?"

Feng quickly stepped forward.

"Grandma, that's not necessary—"

But it was too late.

The old woman waved her hand.

"Why not? Everyone knows the Gu Corporation belongs to our family."

The room fell silent.

Mengmeng slowly turned her head toward Feng.

Her mind started racing.

Gu Corporation.

One of the most powerful business empires in the entire city.

And the current acting leader…

Gu Feng.

Her rival.

The same man who had defeated her company in several major deals.

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

So it was you.

For a split second—

The calm, sweet expression on Mengmeng's face disappeared.

Her posture straightened.

Her gaze became sharp.

Cold.

Powerful.

Feng noticed it instantly.

That look…

It was completely different from the gentle woman he knew.

Then suddenly—

Mengmeng blinked.

Her expression softened again.

She covered her mouth in shock.

"Wait…"

She looked at Feng dramatically.

"You're rich?"

Feng stared at her.

"…Yes."

"You told me you owned a small company!"

Feng rubbed his forehead awkwardly.

"It's… complicated."

Mengmeng crossed her arms.

"So all this time you were pretending?"

Feng sighed.

"You were doing the same thing."

Mengmeng quickly looked innocent.

"I wasn't hiding anything."

Feng raised an eyebrow.

"Really?"

For a brief moment their eyes met.

Both of them silently knew the truth.

Both of them were liars.

But neither could reveal everything.

Not yet.

Meanwhile, Feng's grandmother was watching them closely.

Then suddenly she started laughing.

"Oh this is interesting."

Feng frowned.

"What?"

She pointed at Mengmeng.

"This girl is not simple."

Mengmeng blinked innocently.

"Grandma?"

The old woman smiled knowingly.

"Anyone who can stay calm after discovering my grandson's identity is not ordinary."

Mengmeng smiled politely.

"I was just surprised."

Feng looked at her carefully again.

That earlier expression…

That cold confidence…

He had definitely seen it.

But now she looked gentle again.

Sweet.

Almost harmless.

Did I imagine it?

After some more awkward conversation, Feng's grandmother finally prepared to leave.

Before stepping out, she looked at Mengmeng again.

"Take good care of him."

Mengmeng smiled softly.

"I will."

Then the old woman turned to Feng.

"And you…"

"Yes?"

"Stop pretending to be poor."

Feng sighed deeply.

"I'll think about it."

When the door finally closed…

The apartment fell silent again.

Mengmeng slowly sat down on the couch.

Feng leaned against the wall.

"So…"

Mengmeng looked at him.

"So."

They stared at each other for a moment.

Then Feng laughed quietly.

"I guess we both had secrets."

Mengmeng smiled slightly.

"Looks like it."

But inside her mind…

One thought echoed clearly.

My fake husband…

Is my biggest business rival.

And somehow—

That made their already complicated marriage even more dangerous.
