The drive to TechCorp's building took eleven minutes.
Aurora spent them thinking about sequence.
That was the word she kept returning to. Not feelings, not loyalty, not any of the softer words that had no business in this calculation. Sequence. The order in which things had to happen for the plan to end the way she'd built it to end. Ray first. Then—when Ray was finished and the wreckage was cleared and she had her company back in both hands—Liam.
That had always been the order. She hadn't changed it. What Ray was doing right now was threatening to change it for her, which was the one thing she couldn't allow.
She told her driver to wait.
Didn't call ahead.
The lobby attendant recognized her. He reached for his phone to announce her and she shook her head once. He hesitated. Nodded. She crossed to the elevator.
