Chapter 29 - The Birth of a Son

Their son arrived on a sunny morning.

Easier labor than Hope's—shorter, less complicated. Lina pushed for an hour, and suddenly he was there, crying, perfect.

Kai cut the cord this time, hands only slightly shaking.

"Another one," he breathed, looking at his son. "We made another one."

Lina held the baby, counting fingers and toes, marveling at how different he was from Hope. Dark hair like Kai. Tiny hands already grasping.

"Hi, baby," she whispered. "I'm your mom. Your sister is waiting to meet you."

They named him Noah. Simple. Strong. Perfect.

Hope met Noah at the hospital.

She was fascinated—pointing at his tiny fingers, his tiny toes, his tiny nose. "Baby," she kept saying. "Baby."

"That's your brother," Lina explained. "Noah."

"Noah," Hope repeated carefully. Then, louder: "NOAH!"

The baby startled, crying. Hope looked alarmed.

"It's okay," Kai laughed. "He's just surprised. He'll get used to you."

Hope patted his head gently. "Sorry, Noah."

Lina and Kai exchanged glances—exhausted, overwhelmed, completely in love.

Two children. A family of four.

Their hearts had expanded exactly as promised.

Chapter 30: Chaos and Love

Life with two under two was chaos.

Hope was jealous, acting out, demanding attention. Noah was colicky, crying for hours, refusing to sleep. Lina and Kai operated on fumes, surviving on coffee and determination.

"I can't do this," Lina cried one night, both children screaming. "I can't."

Kai took Noah, bouncing him gently. "Yes, you can. We can. Together, remember?"

"I know. I just—" She broke down, sobbing. "I'm so tired."

He pulled her close, baby between them. "I know. Me too. But this stage won't last forever. They'll grow. It'll get easier."

"When?"

"Soon. Maybe. I hope."

She laughed through tears. "Honest at least."

"Always."

It did get easier.

Slowly, gradually, imperceptibly. Noah started sleeping longer. Hope adjusted to her brother, even started loving him. They found a rhythm—chaotic but manageable.

"Look at us," Lina said one evening, children finally asleep. "We're parents. Actual parents."

"With two kids. Actual kids."

"How did this happen?"

Kai smiled. "Love. Lots and lots of love."
