Chapter 5 - First Team

They returned to the entrance of the place, now with his identity plate stored in a necklace around his neck under his clothes. Returning to the main lobby, he followed Nora until they reached a small board next to a larger one, on the small board there were some papers with what seemed to be several names in sequence.

" This is the recruitment board. And the one beside it is the mission board. However let's focus on this small one first. Currently we have 12 mercenary groups looking for new members, however. " She analyzed the papers.

" Only two are looking for a new member at your rank young Leon. " She then took two of the papers from the board and went to the reception desk.

" Both groups are looking for someone to be an additional melee combatant. This first group is composed of a tank, the leader named James who is Steel rank. A mage, Camile and a healer Tris. And they are lacking a main damage dealer. The group's name is Wings. "

She followed line by line with her hand while reading to Leon who paid attention to everything trying to begin understanding the local writing. Soon Nora pulled the other sheet.

" This other group is composed of more people, which is normal, mercenary groups having more than 10 people. There is a bit of everything here. However they are recruiting more melee fighters for the group. The group's name is Lizards. Feel free to choose. "

He nodded while taking the papers and sitting down pulling one of the chairs from an empty table. And began analyzing them while staring at the sheets.

' I imagine the Lizards have more experience in group combat, however with so many people it would be difficult for me to have an active voice to give opinions in the group. With that many people I would just be another one. Maybe I wouldn't even manage to build a friendship with the leader. '

He then looked at the Wings paper. Few people, a small modest group, with a main tank where Leon could interact more with the other three and he also found the group balance interesting.

' It's like in a game, few but if it works it would be efficient. ' He pondered sitting there and then finally made his choice. Gathering the two papers, Leon handed them to Nora.

" I want to try joining Wings. Since they are a new group as well and smaller, I feel like I can fit better with them. "

Nora nodded. " I imagined you would choose them Leon. " Nodding again she continued. " I will ask to call them, it may take some time for them to come, but if they are in the city it should be today still. "

" Ah Miss Nora, I was needing a place to sleep, I still don't have much money, is there somewhere nearby and cheap? "

It was not night yet, however without the carriage to sleep in, Leon did not want to sleep on the street.

" Mhm.. There are the mercenary accommodations here. It's cheap however there is no food or anything included, it is only for sleeping, would that work? "

Leon agreed. " Just not sleeping on the street already makes me happy, thank you. I wanted to know if I can use the training area again? "

" Now that you are an official member, you can. It is a free place for all members. You know where it is, if you go there, and the Wings members arrive I will notify them! "

Leon smiled in a way that seemed to reflect more light than it should. " Thank you then, I will be there. " He then walked toward the training area. Which now stopping to look better, had some training dummies made of straw and wood and others only wood closer to the walls.

He again picked up the long sword and walked to one of the training dummies. ' I have to train more with the long sword to be able to use it effectively in combat. My light trait is more like a one time trick. If it doesn't work the first time it won't work as effectively the next. '

He took a deep breath while gripping the handle of the wooden sword with both hands, and then swung it from top to bottom on the training dummy, feeling the impact it made, and soon raised the sword and repeated the movement.

Leon changed the position and angle of his strikes from time to time. Top to bottom attacks, left to right, right to left, even thrusts were delivered. After a long time there he was sweating a lot, already without his shirt since he did not want to dirty it further.

Leaning on the sword stuck in the ground, he looked at his hands with old calluses already beginning to reappear. He opened and closed them while thinking about how the level up he had achieved would help him a lot. And even one point was already something significant.

He opened the status again and now could notice something new there, at least he had not noticed it before. His level. It had a limit?.

[ Level : 2/100 ]

' 2 out of 100?, can I only evolve up to level 100? I mean... I don't know if that is a lot or not here. Considering that per level I only gain 1 point. It's not much considering the number of attributes I have in the status window. But still I have to see if I can compare this with some other human from Earth. '

The day was already beginning to darken, and in the training area only the sunset light hit where he was standing. And while he was thinking he heard sounds coming from the entrance of the training area. And soon turned toward it.

Earlier that same day. A messenger entered the tavern where the Wings were talking. It was a mercenary messenger. Who soon delivered a letter to James and left the place.

James looked at the letter soon opening it and seeing what was written. " Looks like we got our new member. " He waved the letter to the other two in front of him. " Really?, that fast? but we made the request yesterday, and since we are few it is usually harder to find people wanting to join! " Tris spoke excitedly.

" Eh.. Must be some nobody as well. " A slightly more tired voice spoke, it was Camile. " Well it doesn't matter. Nora spoke well of the rookie, and you two aren't that veteran either. Let's go see him later in the day. "

With that the trio finished eating and drinking there at the bar, and soon paid their bills to go to the mercenary headquarters, where the young man who would possibly join their group was waiting!.
