The apartment building was still standing when they arrived.
Caelus let out a quiet breath as he looked up at it, and the tightness in his chest eased a little. Compared to the damaged buildings around it, their place had gotten lucky.
"Looks like we got lucky," he said.
He and Sylvia walked toward the entrance hand in hand. As they passed the cracked walls, boarded windows, and bits of debris that still had not been cleared away, Caelus glanced around the neighbourhood with a faint frown.
"Maybe we should move somewhere better," he said.
Sylvia looked at him, her fingers tightening around his hand.
"Already?" she asked.
Caelus nodded and kept his eyes on the street ahead.
"I want you to have the best, a safer place, somewhere we do not have to worry."
A warm smile spread across Sylvia's face. She held his hand with both of hers and gave it a small squeeze.
