"Yinsen, you stay here — we'll finish these guys first. Stay safe." Jack instructed, then blasted open the door.
The terrorists on the other side were caught off guard. Some were injured by the blast and fell, while others, seeing the Iron Man suit, froze as if they were staring at a devil before opening fire.
The bullets struck the Iron Man suit but did no damage.
"Let me handle this," Tony said, asking to take control of the suit. Thinking there was no problem, Jack handed the controls over to him and only watched.
Tony used the flamethrower built into the suit and pushed forward. With no space to run in the narrow cave, the terrorists had no choice but to burn. By the fire it released, some terrorists died instantly and others scrambled toward the back, shouting for backup.
Seeing the fight settle, Yinsen stepped out slowly with a gun in his hand, looking around at the bodies.
"Is it over?" he asked carefully.
"Not yet — there are more outside. But my team should have started their attack by now. We need to move too," Jack replied.
They moved slowly toward the exit. A few terrorists attacked from the sides.
"Get back, Yinsen — I'll finish them first," Tony said, positioning himself as a shield and firing from the suit's hand repulsors. The shots hit the attackers cleanly.
"Attack, don't stop — don't be afraid, attack!" the same middle-aged terrorist Jack had seen in the kitchen was shouting in Pashto, ordering the others.
Seeing this, a few more terrified terrorists attacked heavily.
Tony, seeing this, finished the ordering guy first.
Jack, for the first time, was seeing a lot of people die. Seeing so many deaths, he thought Tony was being extreme at first — but then, surviving here with a lightbulb on your chest for three months must have been hell, and since it was Tony's personal revenge, and the terrorists here had likely all killed innocent people like Yinsen's family, he didn't say anything to Tony.
They heard heavy gunfire coming from outside.
"Sounds like my people have started," Jack told them.
As they moved toward the exit, a man stepped forward — with two terrorists on his side.
Seeing Yinsen first, the man's face changed , like he had just figured out who the enemy attacking him was. Then his eyes moved to the Iron Man suit.
"Stark! I didn't think you could build that weapon," seeing the Iron Man suit with a greed in his eyes, he continued" you won't escape after killing my people," the man who appeared to be the leader shouted in broken English.
He started to attack with heavy guns and began throwing many grenades.
Tony also started to shoot down the grenades, but suddenly one grenade missed and flew toward them.
"Get back, Yinsen!" They ducked behind some crates along the wall. The grenade's blast filled the space with smoke, dropping visibility fast due to the lack of space for the gas to spread in the cave.
"Ahh—" Yinsen gasped, struggling to breathe as the smoke choked him..
"Let me handle this, Tony. Let me show you what your suit can really do," Jack said, taking back control of the suit.
Even in the narrow cave, Jack controlled the Iron Man suit with good precision, flying toward the terrorists. As he flew, two small weapon mounts opened on the shoulders of the Iron Man suit and fired, taking out the two men on the sides. The Iron Man suit dropped directly in front of the terrorist boss.
Seeing the black and green Iron Man, the boss was visibly shaken — but with wild desperation he opened fire. Seeing not a scratch from bullets. Shouting in his language, he swung the gun around and tried to use it from the back — it broke. He threw a punch instead. Ironman caught his fist and broke his hand.
"Ahhh!" the man screamed in pain. Seeing him go down, Jack gave control back to Tony.
Then the Iron Man helmet dissolved and Tony's face appeared.
Seeing Tony face the terrorist face was filled with hatred
"What's the matter — feeling guilty for not killing me sooner?" Tony mocked him.
The boss said something sharp in his language.
"What did he say?" Tony asked.
"Just curses you don't want to hear," Jack replied, his head emerging from the suit in Upgrade form.
"Stark, don't think you've won — you'll die by my boss's—" Before he could finish, Tony cut him off.
"He talks too much," Tony said flatly.
Outside, the gunfire had stopped.
Hearing the quiet from outside, Jack knew Natasha and the others must have won, so he undid his transformation. Once Upgrade left, Tony's suit, overloaded from the extended use, broke apart and fell away from his body, becoming unusable.
As Jack returned to his normal form beside Yinsen, Tony's mind was already full of questions about Jack's transformation, but since Jack avoided the topic and they had only known each other for a very short time, Tony respected his secret. Before he could ask what was next, the sound of footsteps cut through the silence.
He looked toward it carefully.
Natasha walked in first, then Coulson, then Clint behind them with an arrow drawn and ready. Seeing Yinsen holding a gun, they raised their guard — but Jack stepped in quickly.
"Don't — he's with us, not against us."
Seeing Jack and Tony, they lowered their guard.
"Looks like everything went well," Natasha said.
"We should leave now," Coulson said. "From what our intelligence shows, these terrorists have a larger organization behind them. With Tony secured, there's no reason to stay and engage in a fight we don't need."
With no argument to make, they moved out of the cave.
While walking and seeing the dead bodies, one could imagine the fight that had taken place here. He looked at Tony, who was talking to Yinsen, saying that now he could see his family again. But suddenly, his face changed as he looked at the items on the side, like guns and weapons that had the Stark logo.
"Wait, guys — let's destroy this place." Hearing Tony say this and seeing the items with the Stark logo, nobody said anything. Tony walked forward, picking a few explosive items from around the cave area. He lit them, and as they left the cave and walked a few steps away, an explosive sound came from inside. Within a minute, a massive explosion filled the cave, bigger than before, destroying everything inside it. Fire spread through the narrow space as the remaining weapons and ammunition ignited one after another. Soon, a fire could be seen burning in the desert night as they walked away under the starlight.
But Tony's face did not carry the smile of escape — instead, he was thinking about those Stark weapons. When Coulson started talking, he did not show it on his face and returned to his usual self.
"Mr. Stark — I'm Coulson. It's good to see you safe."
"Coulson — good to meet you all. And yeah, thanks for coming all the way out here to get me. Once we're back in New York, I'll make it worth your time."
Listening to Tony and Coulson talk, Jack muttered, "I thought Nick sent his best agents to keep an eye on him — but looks like he wanted credit for the rescue too. Now Tony owes them a favour."
Thinking it through, Jack understood Nick Fury's plan.
"What a cunning fellow," Jack muttered.
