Chapter 17 - part 17

{A Confession Under the Night Lights }

Tyla walked into the house, still confused by Ian's words echoing in her mind…

"Come with me at 9pm."

Her thoughts wouldn't settle,

repeating his voice over and over,

making her chest feel tight for no clear reason.

She stepped inside and greeted Mrs.

Park and her mother with a soft smile. "Hi… I'm back."

Her voice sounded normal… but inside,

she felt anything but calm.

They smiled at her, but her mother quickly noticed the tension in her eyes.

She gently pulled her aside and asked,

"Tyla… why do you look so nervous?"

Her mother's gaze lingered on her face,

as if trying to read everything she wasn't saying.

Tyla hesitated,

her fingers slightly fidgeting.

"Mom… I went out with Han Seul,

and we watched a movie with ian… but he felt a little strange today… and before we left,

he told me to meet him at 9 tonight.

He said he wants to tell me something." Her heart beat faster just repeating his words.

Her mother smiled calmly and replied, "Go… he must have something important to tell you.

Maybe he found a way for us to go back to our home in Singapore."

Her tone was gentle, almost reassuring.

Tyla's eyes widened slightly.

"Right… maybe." But deep inside… she felt it wasn't just that.

She then went to her room to get ready.

Closing the door behind her, she let out a quiet breath she didn't realize she was holding.

Standing in front of her closet,

she stared at her clothes in confusion.

Her eyes moved from one outfit to another, her mind racing.

"What should I wear…? Are we going somewhere fancy or just normal? Why didn't I ask him… ugh!

" She bit her lip slightly,

feeling a strange mix of excitement and nervousness twisting inside her.

After a long time of thinking,

she finally chose a tight,

short leather dress that hugged her body perfectly,

sleeveless, revealing her shoulders and arms… paired with black high heels with red soles.

She wanted to look good… no, more than good.

She styled her hair carefully, her hands slower than usual,

as if every small detail mattered more tonight.

When she looked at herself in the mirror,

she paused… Her reflection felt unfamiliar—more confident… yet more vulnerable.

8:45 PM… The time was getting close. Her heart began to beat louder with every passing minute.

She placed her hand on her chest and whispered,

"Why am I so nervous…?" As if her heart already knew something her mind didn't.

At the same time,

Ian stepped out of his house—right next to hers—and leaned casually against his black luxury car.

But despite his calm posture,

his eyes kept glancing toward her door.

He was waiting… more than he wanted to admit.

Exactly at 9:00 PM…

Tyla walked out of the house… and saw him standing there.

For a moment, her steps slowed without her realizing.

He looked at her— —and froze. His breath hitched slightly, his eyes fixed on her as if he couldn't look away.

For a moment,

it felt like time stopped.

As if he forgot where he was. Her beauty… her makeup… her presence… It all overwhelmed him.

He finally smiled softly and said,

"Thank you… for coming." His voice was lower than usual,

almost careful.

She smiled shyly,

feeling the heat rise to her cheeks.

"Where are we going?" Her voice was soft, almost hesitant.

He opened the car door for her and said, "Get in… you'll see."

There was a small hint of mystery in his tone.

A strange feeling grew inside her. Why Is this look like… a date?

The thought alone made her heart race even faster.

She got into the car,

and he gently closed the door,

then walked around and got in,

a faint smile still on his lips.

Silence filled the car.

Not an empty silence… but one heavy with unspoken words.

Tyla looked at her phone,

trying to ease her nervousness, her fingers slightly trembling.

She didn't even realize she wasn't really reading anything.

Suddenly… The car slowed down… and stopped.

Her heart skipped a beat.

She reached for the door,

but he said quickly, "Wait." His voice made her pause instantly.

He stepped out,

then opened her door and said,

"Please." His hand gestured gently,

but his eyes were focused only on her.

She got out… and looked up.

Her breath caught in her throat.

A luxurious,

elegant restaurant… Huge… beautiful… —but completely empty.

The silence around it felt almost unreal.

No one was there. Except for one table… prepared just for them.

She looked at him in shock.

"Why is no one here?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

He replied calmly, "I didn't want anyone to disturb us… so I booked the entire place." His tone was simple…

but the meaning behind it wasn't.

Her eyes widened. "You booked… the whole restaurant?!"

Her heart pounded harder,

not knowing how to process it.

He pulled out her chair. "Sit." His calmness only made her more aware of the intensity of the moment.

She sat slowly,

still trying to catch her breath,

and he sat across from her.

A waiter came,

handed them the menu, and poured them wine.

Ian ordered ramen with pork,

while Tyla ordered a medium-rare steak.

Before the food arrived,

she looked at him and asked directly,

"What did you want to tell me?"

She couldn't hold it in anymore.

He swallowed slightly,

his fingers tightening around the glass.

"Let's eat first."

As if he needed more time… to gather courage.

She was confused… but stayed quiet.

Her curiosity only grew stronger.

Soon, the food arrived.

It was incredibly delicious.

But she could barely taste it. The tension between them filled every second.

After they finished eating…

He looked at her,

and this time,

he said her name differently.

"Tyla…" Her name sounded softer… deeper.

She lifted her gaze.

"Yes…?" Her heart was already racing before he even spoke.

He took a deep breath.

"I tried to stay away from you… many times.

I tried to push you away… but it's useless.

We always meet… fate keeps bringing us together."

Her heartbeat echoed in her ears.

"What's the point of avoiding you… when danger come anyway?

So I decided… to protect you. For real this time."

His gaze softened.

"I want to be close to you… very close.

You made me go back to who I was… I laugh… I smile… And when you smile… I smile too."

Her fingers tightened slightly on the table.

He paused… then spoke more deeply:

"You made my heart live again, Tyla… And I don't want you as just a friend."

Her eyes widened.

"I want you. I really want you. Be my girlfriend… I love you."

She froze.

Her heart slammed against her chest so hard it almost hurt.

Her mind went blank… yet her emotions were overwhelming.

She opened her mouth… but no words came out.

"I…" Her voice trembled.

"I don't know what to say…"

Because deep inside… she felt everything at once.

He looked at her quietly and asked, "Don't you like me…? Even a little?"

There was something fragile in his voice this time.

She said nothing.

Just looked at him… her eyes filled with confusion and emotion.

He lowered his gaze slightly.

"If I made you uncomfortable… I'm sorry."

She quickly shook her head. "No… no…"

Her voice came out fast,

almost panicked. "I'm just nervous because… honestly, I also —"

Her phone suddenly rang.

The sound cut through the moment like a sharp blade.

She flinched slightly, her heart still racing.

She looked at the screen. "Mom?" Her brows furrowed in confusion.

She answered, "Hello?"

Her mother's voice came through:

"Tyla! Why did you take my phone? I have work to do on it!"

She froze… then gasped softly.

"Oh! I took your phone by mistake!"

Her cheeks flushed in

embarrassment.

She ended the call quickly,

her thoughts completely scattered now.

Then she stood up suddenly.

"Let's go back…" Her voice was quieter… almost overwhelmed.

He nodded calmly.

"Okay." He didn't push her… even though his eyes held unspoken questions.

They got into the car.

Silence filled the space again… heavier than before.

One word kept repeating in her mind… "I want you."

After a while, they arrived.

He stepped out,

opened her door… She got out slowly,

her heart still racing.

Suddenly, she almost fell,

but he caught her just in time,

his hand wrapping around her waist to steady her before gently helping her regain her balance.

She froze for a moment, looking up at him in silence.

He stepped back and slowly He took his hand away from her

She stood in front of him. Silence. Just eye contact.

The air between them felt charged… almost electric.

Suddenly… He stepped closer.

Slowly… carefully… as if giving her time to stop him.

He gently held her hand… then her waist. His touch was warm… steady.

She froze. Her breath hitched… her heart raced wildly… But she didn't pull away.

He leaned in… closer… closer… She could feel his breath now… warm against her skin.

Just as he was about to kiss her—

She said quickly, "ian… wait." Her voice was soft… but firm.

He stopped immediately and stepped back slightly. "Did I make you uncomfortable?"

She shook her head. "No… I didn't reject you… but…" She placed her hand on her chest,

trying to steady her breathing.

"Give me some time… to understand what I feel."

He was silent for a moment… Then smiled softly. "Okay." There was patience in his eyes… and something deeper.

He turned… and walked into his house.

Tyla stood there… her hand still over her heart… feeling its rapid beats slowly calm.

Then she slowly walked inside… while her heart… still whispered his name.
