Sienna regretted every decision that had led her there, but she directed the ship back to the compound. The return journey was very silent, with the exception of Owena's snores. Sienna finally got through to her mother, but she could hardly talk. She sent her mother a text with a single name: Owena.
Her mother had not replied, but when they walked through the main gates, her mother was waiting. As soon as she saw Owena, her face drained of color. She glared at Sienna, as if her daughter had just unleashed a plague.
Ali, who had come to wait for her mother hid behind Jess, peeking out with wide, terrified eyes.
Owena spread her arms theatrically. "Long time, little sis. Aren't you going to hug me? Or do you plan to keep pretending I don't exist?"
Mrs. Miller's lips thinned. "You should not have come here. You should have stayed in prison."
