Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Might of Sentry — Absolutely Invincible

There were heroes who noticed something was wrong and tried to stop them. But some of them had not even had time to understand what this whole zombie situation was before they were ambushed, infected, and turned against the very people they had once protected.

Barely ten minutes had passed since that thunderous crack had brought Zombie Sentry into this world, and all of New York had already descended into chaos. Zombies ran rampant. People were no longer people, but slabs of delicious meat waiting to be torn apart and devoured alive by those so-called "heroes."

And several hundred meters above that hellish scene—

inside a massive cloaked helicarrier—

Nick Fury, a white version without the eyepatch, stared at the carnage displayed on the screen and slammed his fist down onto the control panel.

"Damn it! Damn it all to hell! What the hell is happening here?! Captain America, Captain Marvel, Black Widow… more than half of the Avengers' core members have turned into goddamn zombies!"

Just from his tone alone, anyone could tell how furious Nick Fury was.

The others could wait.

But of the three names he had just mentioned, those were the three heroes he valued most. Losing them alone already counted as a devastating blow.

Captain America represented the American spirit, the central leader of the Avengers, someone utterly indispensable.

Captain Marvel was a top-tier powerhouse, someone on the same level as early Thor. Her strength was beyond dispute.

Black Widow was the assassin who handled Fury's dirty work for him.

For all of them to become zombies was a crushing blow to Nick Fury—especially now that, after turning, they were spreading the infection on a massive scale to the other heroes who came to support them.

At this moment, Nick Fury truly wanted to curse out every filthy word he had ever learned in his life just to vent the rage boiling inside him.

And yet what was even more despair-inducing was not that.

The real source of Fury's headache—of his outright despair—was the one responsible for infecting Captain America and the others in the first place.

Not long ago, that tall golden figure had suddenly appeared in the busiest district of New York City. Captain America had led a team to make contact, hoping to determine whether it had come in peace or with hostile intent.

The result?

A whole group of heroes, Captain Marvel included, had been beaten down, bitten, and turned into zombies.

By the time Nick Fury realized things had gone horribly wrong, it was already too late.

And the biggest problem right now was—

"Where the hell did that thing go? It just vanished… Did it leave this world, or did it go somewhere else?"

As Fury pondered that question, he gestured to the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents behind him, ordering them to summon every hero they could possibly gather.

Before the infection spun completely out of control, he intended to bring in all remaining major heroes: the rest of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the magic users led by Doctor Strange, the mutants led by the X-Men, even the obscure little street-level heroes nobody had ever heard of. Nick Fury wanted all of them. The helicarrier was big enough—cramming them all onboard would be no problem.

Most important of all were Reed Richards and Tony Stark. With their combined intellect, Fury was convinced they could develop a cure for the zombie virus. At least, that was what he believed.

But when he turned his gaze back to the surveillance feed—

"What the hell is this now?!"

Nick Fury was dumbfounded all over again.

On the massive monitor, the zombie heroes were still lunging at the civilians around them. But now there was an uninvited guest in the sky.

Under the night sky, a figure in a black-and-red uniform hovered in midair, making a dramatic entrance. In an instant, he drew the attention of everyone present—humans and zombie heroes alike. All of them looked up at Roland.

Who was he?

His black cape fluttered like a shadow in the night wind. Roland looked down over the people and the zombies below, his face utterly expressionless. For a moment, neither the heroes nor the zombie heroes dared to act rashly.

Until—

a roar rang out.

"Doesn't matter who he is! Captain Marvel, you go first! Bite him and make him one of us!"

Zombie Captain America was the first to react. He raised his shield before his chest, pointed at Roland with his other hand, then turned to Zombie Captain Marvel beside him.

"Understood, Captain. Leave it to me."

Zombie Captain Marvel curled her lips into a smile. If she had still been human, it would have been dazzling.

But now that she was a zombie, any smile on her face was nothing short of horrifying.

After becoming zombies, most of these heroes had lost their lips, leaving only exposed teeth and gums, all carrying that unmistakable zombie stench.

After issuing the order to Zombie Captain Marvel, Zombie Captain America turned and muttered something quietly to the air beside him.

Ordinary people could not see it.

But to Roland, nothing before his eyes could be hidden.

Beside Zombie Captain America was Zombie Wasp, shrunk down to the tiniest possible size—a sneaky little bastard.

In the comics, it was that very same Wasp, working together with Zombie Reed Richards from inside and out, who infected most of the remaining major heroes gathered on the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier. She was incredibly disgusting to deal with. Her shrinking ability made her nearly impossible for ordinary people to notice.

But that only applied to ordinary people.

Roland had already seen through Zombie Captain America's trick.

"Hmph. You really are looking down on me."

Roland casually raised a hand.

At once, the zombie heroes on the ground were crushed flat under an invisible and overwhelming force, unable to move at all.

"Grah—!"

Zombie Captain America let out a muffled groan as he was slammed to the pavement.

The tremendous pressure smashed a crater of cracks into the ground beneath him. His Super-Soldier body began to split apart, his limbs snapping instantly. Roland had needed only a single thought to strip Zombie Captain America of both his ability to fight and his ability to eat people.

And it was not only Zombie Captain America.

Nearly every zombie hero present was pinned to the ground.

Their condition was much the same as his. No matter how tough their bodies were, none of them could withstand that invisible, overwhelming pressure. Their limbs all broke in the same instant.

This was the might of Sentry—peerless and unmatched.

Roland had not suppressed every last zombie hero, however. He had deliberately left one out: the strongest among them, Zombie Captain Marvel.

As for the weak, he could wipe them out with a casual gesture.

As for the strong, it was worth trading a few punches to get a feel for the fight.

"Hm? He can only suppress them?"

"Looks like he's not actually that strong. I can win!"

Zombie Captain Marvel felt no gravitational suppression at all. Looking around at her pinned-down companions, she mistakenly assumed her own body was simply strong enough to resist it. The corners of her mouth split into an excited grin, and her opinion of Roland immediately dropped a few notches.

What she did not know was that Roland simply did not consider her worth taking seriously.

"Everyone, do you see that? Next, I'm going to show you how to deal with zombies during a zombie outbreak—how to handle them properly if you want to save the world."

Roland's expression remained calm as he continued speaking to the chat group while dealing with the zombie heroes.

At that moment, Yuji Itadori and Lucy—who had not been online before—also joined the livestream, both astonished by what they saw.

[Strongest Athlete]: Zombie outbreak? What is this? These things look totally different from movie zombies, and completely different from curses too. When did the group get a newcomer?

[Wants to See the Moon]: Good God… are these things actually real? They look as disgusting as Scavs.
