Chapter 53 - Chapter 43-new life

The iron gates of the Vane Estate didn't just close; they sealed the world away. As the black sedan came to a halt in the circular drive, the massive oak doors of the manor swung open, revealing a line of staff standing in perfect, rhythmic formation.

Raphael stepped out first, not offering Dafne a hand, but waiting for her to emerge on her own under the weight of his gaze. She stepped onto the gravel, her silk gown rustling, her head bowed as if the very air of the estate was too heavy to breathe.

"Follow," Raphael commanded.

He led her into the Great Hall, where the marble floors shone like ice. The entire household staff—housekeepers, footmen, and groundskeepers—stood in a silent semi-circle. The air was thick with a clinical, professional dread.

The Declaration of OwnershipRaphael stood in the center of the hall, his hand moving to rest heavily on the nape of Dafne's neck. He didn't look at his staff; he looked over them, his voice dropping into that dark, resonant frequency that seemed to vibrate the very crystals of the chandelier.

"Listen closely," Raphael began, his tone a smooth, lethal purr. "This is Dafne Sterling. She is no longer a guest. She is the center of this household's silence. From this moment on, her title is 'The Ward of the Estate.' Her word is mine, and my word is her law."

He tightened his grip on her neck, forcing her to tilt her head back. Dafne's eyes were glassy, her face flushed with a deep, burning embarrassment as fifty pairs of eyes watched her submission.

"She is delicate," Raphael continued, his eyes scanning the servants. "She is prone to 'noise.' If I hear a single whisper in the hallways, or if any of you speak to her without my express permission, you will be terminated immediately. Do you understand?"

A chorus of "Yes, Mr. Raphael" echoed hollowly. Many of the older staff looked away, their faces twisting with a pained pity. They saw the thumbprints on her jaw; they saw her leaning into him not out of love, but out of a terrifying, programmed necessity.

The Gilded SurveillanceRaphael gestured toward three young women standing at the front of the line. "Step forward."

The three maids, barely older than Dafne herself, stepped out. They were dressed in stark, charcoal-grey uniforms, their expressions masked in professional neutrality.

"These are your shadows, Dafne," Raphael whispered into her ear, loud enough for the room to hear. "Sofia, Anna, and Jordan. They will be with you twenty-four hours a day. They will dress you. They will bathe you. They will sit outside your door while you sleep. You will never be alone with the 'static' again."

Dafne flinched, her eyes darting to the three girls. The realization that her every breath would be monitored by strangers made her knees tremble.

"Raphael... please," she whispered, a final spark of her old self flickering. "I don't need... I can do it myself."

"You cannot," he snapped, the Tone slamming into her like a physical weight. "You are too fragile. You will obey them as you obey me, because they are my eyes when I am not in the room."

He turned back to the three maids. "Take her to the East Wing. Strip her of that gown. Put her in the linens I selected. If she cries, let her. But do not let her leave the room."

As Sofia, Anna, and Jordan moved in, gently but firmly taking Dafne by the arms, she looked back at the crowd. She saw the pity in their eyes, and the shame burned hotter than the Echo. She was being led away like a prized animal, her dignity stripped in front of an audience of strangers.

The Last AllianceMiles away, Leo and Maya were staring at a map of the Vane Estate. The news of the restaurant—the kiss, the parents' retreat—had reached them.

"He's moved her in," Maya whispered. "The Sterlings are too scared to move. They've given up, Leo."

"I haven't," Leo said, his voice a low growl. He looked at a side door in the basement. "And neither has the one person who knows this house better than Raphael."

The door opened, and Lucas Vane stepped into the light.

"My brother has gone too far," Lucas said, I will help you rescue the girl from his hands.
