Endless Chaos – Chaos Void Plane: The Path of Story

Chapter 19: The First Believer

Kael did not sleep that night.

The candle beside his desk had long melted into a pool of wax, yet he remained seated, staring at the manuscript in front of him.

"The Knight Who Would Not Fall."

The story had changed on its own.

Not by his hand.

But by belief.

Kael slowly rubbed his temples.

"So the more people believe… the more the story becomes real."

He looked around the observatory.

Hundreds of stories.

Hundreds of possibilities.

His chest tightened slightly.

"Did I just create a walking legend… by accident?"

For a moment, Kael considered burning the manuscript.

Destroy the story.

Erase the knight before it grew stronger.

But as his fingers touched the page, he hesitated.

Then he sighed.

"…No."

If stories were power in this world, then avoiding them would only make him weak.

Instead—

He needed to understand them.

Morning arrived quietly.

Soft sunlight slipped through the cracked windows of the observatory.

Kael finally stood up and stretched.

"First step… information."

He needed to know how far his story had spread.

Just as he prepared to leave—

Footsteps echoed from outside.

Kael froze.

The observatory was hidden deep in the ruins of Mythara.

No one should be here.

He quietly extinguished the candle and stepped toward the door.

The footsteps grew closer.

Then—

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

A young voice called out.

"Hello?"

Kael frowned.

"…A child?"

He slowly opened the door.

Standing outside was a thin boy around twelve years old, wearing worn traveling clothes and carrying a small wooden sword.

The boy looked up at him with bright, excited eyes.

"You're the storyteller, right?"

Kael blinked.

"…What?"

The boy nodded enthusiastically.

"The man who wrote the story about the silver knight!"

Kael's heart skipped a beat.

"How do you know about that?"

The boy immediately pulled out a folded piece of parchment from his bag.

Kael recognized the handwriting instantly.

It was a copied page from The Knight Who Would Not Fall.

"My village got this yesterday!" the boy said excitedly. "Everyone is talking about it!"

Kael stared at the paper.

"So… the story is spreading already."

The boy stepped closer.

"Sir… is the knight real?"

Kael didn't answer immediately.

He studied the boy.

The wooden sword.

The hopeful expression.

The desperate determination in his eyes.

"Why do you ask?"

The boy clenched the sword tightly.

"Because monsters attacked our village last week."

His voice trembled slightly.

"My father… didn't come back."

Silence filled the air.

"But when I read your story," the boy continued, "I felt like… maybe heroes really exist."

He looked up at Kael.

"So I came here."

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"You… traveled here alone?"

The boy nodded.

"I want to become like the knight."

Kael sighed quietly.

This was dangerous.

Belief like this…

It could strengthen the story.

Strengthen the knight.

But it could also trap the boy inside a fantasy.

Kael crouched down so their eyes were level.

"What's your name?"

"Lior."

Kael looked at the wooden sword again.

"…Lior."

He stood up and turned toward the observatory.

"Come inside."

The boy's eyes widened.

"Really?!"

"Yes."

If stories shaped reality—

Then Kael needed to see what happened when someone believed completely.

Inside the observatory, Lior stared in awe at the mountains of manuscripts.

"So many stories…"

Kael walked to the desk and placed the Knight manuscript in front of him.

"Tell me something, Lior."

The boy leaned closer.

"What?"

Kael tapped the page.

"If the knight appeared in front of you right now…"

"What would you ask him?"

Lior didn't hesitate.

"How do I become strong enough to protect people?"

Kael's eyes narrowed slightly.

That answer…

It wasn't selfish.

It wasn't glory.

Just protection.

At that moment—

The manuscript began to glow faintly.

Kael froze.

Lior didn't notice.

But Kael saw it clearly.

A new sentence slowly formed on the page.

"And thus, the knight found his first disciple."

Kael's heartbeat quickened.

"…You've got to be kidding me."

Outside the observatory—

Wind began to blow across the ruins.

And somewhere in the distance…

A silver figure appeared on the horizon.

Walking.

Toward them.
