Then she turned.

"You are going to get shocked standing there", she say with a soft smile .

Arjun love nervously🫣 "I think it's too late for that ".

She moved slightly aside, giving him space under the wooden roof of the bridge.

For a few minutes, they simply stood there, listening to the rain.

Then she spoke again.

"Do you always run into storms?"

"Only the interesting ones," Arjun replied.

She laughed.

It was the kind of laugh that stayed in your mind long after hearing it.

"I'm Maya," she said.

"Arjun."

Their hands met for a brief handshake.

But somehow, that simple touch felt like electricity.

A Strange Connection

After that evening, Arjun began seeing Maya everywhere.

At the town library.

Near the lake.

Walking through the forest trails.

Sometimes it almost felt like she appeared exactly when he needed company.

They started spending time together.

Talking for hours.

Walking through quiet paths.

Watching sunsets from the hilltop.

Maya was unlike anyone Arjun had ever met.

She loved silence as much as conversation.

She spoke about life in poetic ways.

And sometimes she said things that sounded almost mysterious.

One evening, while sitting near the riverbank, she asked him,

"Do you believe people can meet someone who changes their destiny?"

Arjun smiled.

"I think I'm starting to."

She looked at him quietly.

Then said something that puzzled him.

"Some meetings are not accidents."

The Growing Feelings

Days slowly turned into weeks.

Arjun realized something dangerous was happening.

He was falling in love.

Completely.

Deeply.

And Maya seemed to feel the same.

One night, they walked along the lakeside under the moonlight. The water reflected thousands of silver stars.

Maya stopped walking.

"Arjun," she said softly.

"Yes?"

"What will you do when you leave Silverwood?"

Arjun looked surprised.

"Leave?"

"You came here for a short time, didn't you?"

He sighed.

"My book will finish soon… so yes, eventually."

She looked away.

For the first time since they met, sadness appeared in her eyes.

"And if you had a reason to stay?"

Arjun stepped closer to her.

"Maybe I already do."

Their eyes met.

The silence between them became warm and intense.

Slowly, Arjun reached for her hand.

She didn't pull away.

Instead, her fingers gently intertwined with his.

Her voice was barely a whisper.

"You should be careful, Arjun."

"Why?"

"Because hearts are fragile things."

He smiled.

"I think mine already belongs to you."

The First Kiss

A few days later, the town celebrated its annual Moon Festival.

Lanterns floated in the sky.

Music played in the streets.

People laughed and danced.

Arjun searched everywhere for Maya.

Finally he found her standing near the hilltop overlooking the town.

The golden lights below looked like a sea of stars.

"You disappeared," he said.

"I like quiet places," she replied.

They stood close together.

The cool wind moved through the trees.

Maya looked at him with a gentle expression.

"You look happy tonight."

"I am."

"Why?"

"Because you're here."

Her cheeks turned slightly pink.

Arjun slowly stepped closer.

His heart was beating wildly.

"Maya…"

"Yes?"

"I think I'm in love with you."

She didn't answer immediately.

Instead she looked at him for a long moment.

Then softly said,

"I was wondering when you'd realize."

Arjun laughed in surprise.

"So you knew?"

"Of course."

The distance between them disappeared.

When their lips finally met, the world seemed to pause.

The kiss was soft.

Gentle.

Full of emotion.

Not rushed.

Not desperate.

Just two hearts quietly admitting what they had felt for weeks.

When they separated, Maya rested her head against his chest.

"Arjun," she whispered.

"Promise me something."

"Anything."

"No matter what happens… remember this moment."

The Mystery Begins

The next morning, Arjun woke up excited.

He planned to meet Maya again.

But she didn't appear.

He waited at the bridge.

Nothing.

At the lake.

Nothing.

At the library.

Still nothing.

Days passed.

Maya was gone.

Arjun felt confused and worried.

Finally, he asked an elderly shopkeeper who had lived in Silverwood for decades.

"Do you know a girl named Maya?"

The old man looked thoughtful.

"Maya… Maya…"

Then his face slowly changed.

"Why are you asking?"

"She's a friend."

The shopkeeper hesitated.

"There was a girl named Maya in this town… many years ago."

Arjun felt a chill.

"What do you mean?"

The old man sighed.

"She passed away… about twenty years ago."

Arjun laughed nervously.

"That's impossible. I was with her last night."

The shopkeeper shook his head slowly.

"Her full name was Maya Verma."

Arjun felt his heart stop.

That was the exact name she had given him.

The Truth

Confused and shaken, Arjun went to the town archives.

He searched through old records and newspapers.

Then he found it.

A yellow newspaper article.

"Young Woman Dies in Bridge Accident – 2006"

The article described how Maya Verma had fallen from the same bridge during a storm.

Arjun's hands trembled.

It couldn't be real.

He had held her hand.

He had kissed her.

He had spent weeks with her.

How could she be…

Gone?

The Return

That night, Arjun returned to the bridge.

The same place where everything had begun.

The moon shone brightly again.

The river flowed quietly.

He stood there for a long time.

Then suddenly—

A soft voice behind him.

"You look like someone who found an answer."

Arjun slowly turned.

Maya stood there.

Just like before.

Beautiful.

Calm.

Mysterious.

His voice shook.

"Are you… real?"

She walked closer.

"As real as the feelings you have for me."

Arjun's eyes filled with emotion.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Would you have believed me?"

He couldn't answer.

She gently touched his face.

"I'm sorry for disappearing."

"Why did you come back?"

Maya smiled softly.

"Because you came back."

The Final Promise

They stood together under the moonlight once more.

Arjun finally asked the question that had been haunting him.

"What are you?"

Maya looked at the flowing river.

"Maybe a memory… maybe a soul that never left."

Then she looked back at him.

"But when I'm with you… I feel alive."

Arjun held her hand tightly.

"I don't care what the truth is."

Her eyes softened.

"Arjun… someday you will leave Silverwood."

He shook his head.

"Maybe not."

She smiled sadly.

"You belong to the living world."

"And you belong to my heart."

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then Maya leaned forward and kissed him again.

This kiss was deeper.

More emotional.

Like a goodbye hidden inside love.

When she stepped back, her form slowly began fading into the mist.

Arjun panicked.

"Maya!"

Her voice echoed gently in the night.

"We found each other once…"

The mist grew thicker.

Her figure almost gone.

"And maybe in another life…"

The last thing he saw was her beautiful smile.

"...we will meet again."

Then she disappeared.

One Year Later

Arjun still lives in Silverwood.

His novel became famous.

Its title?

"The Moonlight Promise."

Every night, he walks to the old bridge.

Sometimes he feels the same gentle breeze.

Sometimes he hears faint laughter in the wind.

And sometimes…

Just for a second…

He feels a familiar hand holding his.

As if Maya is still there.

Watching.

Waiting.

For the day their two worlds finally meet again.
