Ang Mutya ng Section E – Book 3: The Unwritten Destinies

Chapter 1: The City She Chose

(Jay's POV)

New York, USA

The city lights were still glowing when I woke up.

For a moment, I didn't remember where I was. The ceiling above me looked unfamiliar, the room too quiet compared to the noisy mornings I used to have back home.

Then reality slowly settled in.

New York.

University.

A new life.

I sat up on the bed, the soft blanket sliding down my arms as the cold morning air touched my skin. The digital clock on the bedside table read 6:12 AM.

My first day.

Not in high school.

Not in Section E.

But in university.

A place where nobody knew me.

A place where nobody knew about the chaos, the laughter, the fights, and the unforgettable memories that once defined my life.

A place where nobody knew about him.

I walked toward the large window of my room and pushed the curtains aside. The view outside still amazed me. Tall buildings stretched into the sky, their glass windows reflecting the pale sunrise. Cars moved endlessly below, and people were already rushing through the streets.

New York never slept.

And somehow… I felt like the city understood me.

Because my mind hadn't rested either.

Not after everything that happened.

Not after everything I left behind.

I leaned my forehead against the cold glass.

Somewhere on the other side of the world… my past was still there.

Section E.

My friends.

And Keifer.

For a second, my chest tightened.

The memories came so easily.

His teasing voice.

His stubborn attitude.

The way he always looked at me like I was the only person in the room.

I closed my eyes quickly.

No.

I already made my decision.

Last night, I finally admitted something to myself.

I couldn't keep waiting.

I couldn't keep holding onto something that might never come back.

Keifer had his own life.

His own battles.

And maybe… our story ended the moment I left.

So I chose something different.

I chose me.

A knock on the door suddenly broke my thoughts.

"Jay, if you don't wake up now, I swear we're leaving you here," Aries shouted from outside.

I rolled my eyes.

"Relax, Aries. I'm already awake."

The door opened and Aries walked in dramatically like he was entering a stage performance. Percy followed behind him, holding two cups of coffee.

"First day at university," Aries said while looking around the room. "Historic moment."

Percy handed me one of the coffees.

"You ready?" he asked.

I took a sip and nodded slowly.

"Yeah," I said. "I think I am."

Aries narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

"That's it?" he said. "No dramatic speech? No emotional breakdown? No crying about Keifer?"

Percy immediately elbowed him.

"Seriously?"

Aries raised his hands. "What? I'm just curious."

I laughed softly and shook my head.

"I'm okay," I said honestly.

And for the first time… it didn't feel like a lie.

Because something inside me had changed.

I had spent too many nights crying.

Too many nights wondering what went wrong.

Too many nights hoping Keifer would somehow appear and explain everything.

But life wasn't a fairytale.

Sometimes people loved each other…

And still ended up apart.

"I decided something yesterday," I said quietly.

Both Percy and Aries looked at me.

"I'm not going to live in the past anymore."

Percy nodded slowly.

"That's good, Jay."

Aries crossed his arms but didn't interrupt.

"I'm here for a reason," I continued. "I worked hard to get into this university. I didn't come all the way to New York just to stay stuck in old memories."

The room was quiet for a moment.

Then Aries sighed dramatically.

"Well… there goes the emotional drama I was hoping for."

I threw a pillow at him.

"Shut up."

He laughed and dodged it.

Percy shook his head, smiling.

"Come on," he said. "We should leave before you're late."

I grabbed my bag from the chair and followed them out of the house.

The cold morning air immediately hit my face when we stepped outside.

The walk to the university wasn't far, but every step made my heart beat faster.

And when the campus finally came into view…

I stopped.

The university was enormous.

Large academic buildings surrounded a huge courtyard filled with trees whose leaves had turned shades of red and gold. Students walked everywhere, talking, laughing, and rushing to their classes.

It felt like an entirely new world.

Aries whistled.

"Okay, I admit it. This place is impressive."

Percy nodded.

"You're going to meet a lot of people here."

I looked around at the students passing by.

None of them knew my story.

None of them knew about the girl called Mutya ng Section E.

Here…

I was just Jay.

And maybe that was exactly what I needed.

A chance to start over.

A chance to write a new chapter of my life.

I took a deep breath and stepped through the university gates.

The moment my foot crossed the entrance…

Something shifted inside me.

This wasn't high school anymore.

This was the beginning of a new journey.

New friendships.

New experiences.

New challenges.

And maybe even…

New love.

But somewhere far away, in another country, there was still someone who didn't know how much I was trying to move forward.

Someone who had just heard the words that shattered his heart.

She's moving on.

And even though I didn't know it yet…

Our story wasn't finished.

Because destiny had a strange way of bringing people back together when they least expected it.

And the future?

It was still unwritten.
