In an effort to avoid overthinking Kay's generosity I hurried off to the next room. I was greeted by a web molded from plaster. It hung from the corner of the arch leading to the area labeled 'Spider Lair'.
I stopped in front of a tank with lush, tropical planting. I couldn't immediately see the creature inside so I glanced at the plaque.
'Pinktoe Tarantula(Avicularia avicularia)'
I cooed softly under my breath and craned my neck trying to catch a glimpse of the fuzzy little guy. Kay leaned down to peer over my shoulder.
"See something cute?"
I nodded eagerly. As if to prove my point, the tarantula shuffled out from under a leaf towards a small water bowl.
Kay made a strangled, startled noise and pulled away rapidly. So rapidly he sent himself tumbling backwards. I whirled around and reached out as if I could grab him in time to stop his fall.
I failed. Kay tumbled to the ground. He hit the ground with a painful sounding thump.
