Chapter 15 - Mana

Before showing Kabel the ins and outs of the Alahara he had too first educate him on the general situation. "An opportunity is a crisis and a crisis is a opportunity, learn that quick because boy are we in one right now, around a few tens of thousand Km south lies the den of blood mages Levertigit and right now the head honcho Derisious is attempting too overthrow the god of blood and fully steal all of his powers which as a by-product has caused the once one in a hundred years blood mutation too happen one a minute if not even faster, It can happen to anything technically but the higher level of conciseness the safer you are there only been a few recording case in which mages got blood mutated naturally" Kabel took in every word and absorbed it all.

"What happend too the mages that got blood mutated?" Rolph just gave a grim simile and said"lets just say it was an expensive and tragic day for all of them, luckily it hasn't happened here just yet but it's only a matter of time, the closer you get too where Derisious is preforming his ritual the higher the rate of blood mutation, Right now this is the closeist mage city that's still safe so we're having abit of an influx of people right now"

"Master um where are we exactly?" Rolph face froze as he realsied that Kabel really did know nothing and quickly gave him a quick expalantion of Alahara and Riblerti. "Master Rolph could you elaborate on what you said ealier about the overthrowing of the blood god, how can a god be otherthrown?"

"There's nothing that can't be killed or otherthrown" Kabel felt the shift in tone so he didn't dare ask anymore questions "anyway I'll let you rest up for now, you can take this room I'll go rent another one" Rolph walked over too the wall and it opened up and let him in. As the wall was closing up and getting ready to send him elsewhere he shouted "Oh right try and get used to your mana, play around with it for awhile!" The wall closed and Kabel was left alone.

He slowly got up and walked around his bed examining his new body. It was very strange he felt like he gained a new sense. Like if he had gained hundreds of ghostly fingers which were running along his scars. That was when he truly realised "I'm actually a mage" A big stupid grin grew on his face as he jumped into the air and landed back on the bed which was so soft that he practically sunk into it.

Normally he would've fell asleep but energy was still rising from the potion he had received earlier. With equal amounts of reluctance and excitement he got up and started investigating his new abode. Too his surprise in the bathroom there was a toilet a shower and a tap with seemingly infinite water. The apartment did have a kitchen if you could call it that.

Instead of fires or stoves there was a cauldron and dozens of glass contraptions and pipes just strewn about with seemingly no purpose. His apartment only consisted of four rooms and had considerable amounts of empty space not too mention anyone could just pop in from any wall which led too a small consistent worry that anyone would just pop infront of him.

Quite quickly though he realised that there was no door and he had no idea how to interact with the walls here so he couldn't leave which was most likely Rolphs intention. Kabel didn't want too just sit around so he started on practicing controlling his mana. He sat down and brought his hands close and tried to form a sphere of mana imbetween his mana. "Don't have a training method but I need too train just hope that I'm not making any permanent mistakes here" His mana slowly rose out of his scars in a thread shape and the werid feeling of the air and his mana along with dense ambient mana in the environment cuased him to loose focus and it too shoot back into his scars.

He tried again and too his surprise he discovered that his mana had almost a sticky property. The ambient green colored mana stuck to his blue coloured mana like flies on a fly trap. He played around with it and extend his mana futher and futher. Before he knew it his mana hit the walls of the room and just stopped. As it shot back the mana stuck to his didn't go back and instead followed back into him. Now he could feel small green specks being quickly converted too new blue ones. " So that's how mages regenerate their mana" His focus shifted back too the wall "Seems my mana isn't strong enough too penatrate through the walls here" Then he got the idea too investigate the wall with his mana sense that his mana gave him. It touched the wall and tried to collide deeper. He got a glimpse of the walls true form and the mana flowing through the wall was all in thousands of tiny vines layed all throughout.

His curiosity got the best of him as he pushed his mana too deep into the walls mana which cuased his too be instantly overtaken like adding a drop of dye too a river. It was overtaken and he felt a sudden drain off his energy cuasing Kabel too tip over slightly. Despite that he had a simile on his face. "So I'm inside a massive living organism and just like how I have my markings to flow mana through it has veins"

Happy with his results he went too grab a cup of water too take a slight rest and contemplated "Didn't I make a contract with the god of change?" He didn't know why but he felt extremely sure that he did yet that didn't ease his confusion "Mirranda must have made a contract with the god of wind but she could only effect the density of the wind and Rolph mentioned specialising so different contractors must have different levels of privilege in terms of what aspect they can change or effect"

When he realised that Kabel suddenly got quite worried "What if I'm really weak?" Kabel didn't even want to think about that scenario so he quickly got too work and started messing around with his mana. He stared trying to make into simple shapes like squares, triangles, circles and then started to slowly ramp up. 6 hours later he could now successfully make a web shape and even a crude line drawing of Rotund.

"Who's he?" Rolph asked from behind Kabel startling him. "When did you get here?" Rolph smirked "An hour ago but you were far too absorbed in your work" Kabel went too apologise but Rolph stopped him. "A mages work is a mages life, the saying goes so don't ever apologise for working and make sure to extend that respect too your peers"

Kabel nodded with respect and Rolph brought out a cup of water and put it infront of him. "You're contracted to change right? Well try and change that cup of water into some beer or ale" Kabel looked at him and then the cup "Okay I hoped you retain some instincts from your past but I guess not, the key in all magics is willpower, willpower is the power of conciseness and conciseness is the only reason we are more than bugs"

Kabel tried his best and put his fingers in the water and wished hard for it too change too ale. He thought about what ale was and he had even read a book on ale processing while he was waiting for Mirranda too bring him more interesting books. He focused hard on the ale and less on the water while infusing his mana into the liquid.

Rolph stared at the process and he wa5ched as the water slowly turned darker. He many small samples of the water as it went through the turning process and half an hour later it was a cup of ale instead of water and Kabel was drenched in sweat. "Maintaining deep concentration for that long is more tiring than I thought Master" He said through pants.

"You'll get better at it" Rolph reassured him and went too take a bit swig of the drink. Kabel was curious "How's it taste?" The answer came in form off him opening his mouth and letting it spill back into the cup. "Should've sipped thats on me, but it's not the worst I've ever had definitely ale though"

Kabel felt happy about the praise but also was very disappointed with his results. Before he could get over his rout Rolph said "In a few day's I'll get you setup as a temporary citizen of Alahara which means you can start taking on missions beyond the city with some peers, most expect mages have apprentices let alone the mercenary mages or who knows what else has slipped into the city" A well of scared excitement washed into his being as he had only a few short days to prepare for life in his new mage society. "Ah and before I forget do renember that it's a real dog eat dog world out there so don't trust anyone"
