The Shadow Beast let out a roar as it came straight for Kael.
Its huge claws ripped through the ground. Made big cracks in the arena floor.
A lot of students. Took a step back.
Someone shouted "Is he crazy?"
Another person said "He is going to die".
Kael just stood there.
Little sparks of energy started to form around his body like rain.
His heart was beating loud.
Thump.
Thump.
A weird warm feeling spread through his veins.
At the time Kael thought about his mother.
He remembered her smile and her voice and the last things she said to him.
She told him he had to survive.
Kael slowly opened his eyes.
They were shining blue.
The Shadow Beast swung its claw at him.
Everyone in the arena gasped.
Just in time Kael moved.
He was really fast.
WHOOSH.
The monsters claw hit the ground. Broke it into pieces.
Someone said "What?"
Kael was suddenly standing next to the beast.
For the time the Shadow Beast stopped and thought for a moment.
It felt something strange and scary coming from Kael.
Instructor Valeria was watching from high above the arena.
She narrowed her eyes. Said "That aura".
Professor Orion crossed his arms. Said "The God Slayer bloodline is waking up".
Kael looked at his hand. Was confused.
Blue energy was swirling around his fingers like flames.
He thought to himself is this my power?
The Shadow Beast roared again. Came at him.
This time Kael did not run away.
He took a step forward.
The blue energy around him got stronger.
Sparks flew through the air.
The monster raised its claws.
Kael made a fist.
Then he punched the creature.
BOOM.
A big burst of energy. The Shadow Beast flew backward.
All the students were shocked. Said things like "No way" and "He pushed it back".
The arena was filled with dust.
Kael was standing in the middle breathing hard.
Before he could do anything else the Shadow Beast got up again.
Its eyes were red and angry.
It roared louder than before. Got ready to attack again.
Suddenly a girl with silver hair jumped into the arena.
She had a spear that was shining.
She said "Behind you" to Kael.
Kael turned around fast.
The girl ran past him fast.
She said "Try not to die rookie" with a smile.
Her spear flashed in the air.
SLASH.
A bright line of light cut across the Shadow Beasts body.
The monster roared in pain.
Kael looked at the girl in surprise.
He asked her "Who are you?"
The girl spun her spear around.
She said "My name is Lyra Veylin".
She looked at Kael and her face softened.
She said "And you are the guy everyone is talking about".
Kael was surprised.
He said "Interesting?"
Lyra smiled and said "You stood in front of a monster that's twice your size and you did not run away".
She tilted her head. Said "That is either very brave or very stupid".
Kael almost smiled.
Then the Shadow Beast roared again.
Lyra. Said "I guess it is still alive".
She looked at Kael. Said "So do you want to be partners?"
Kael looked at the monster. Then back at Lyra.
His blue eyes got sharp. He said "Yes partner".
Lyra. Said "Good".
The two of them ran forward together.
Blue energy was around Kael.
Silver light was, around Lyras spear.
The instructors were watching from above.
Professor Orion said quietly "It seems our God Slayer has already made a friend".
Instructor Valeria. Said "And this exam just got a lot more interesting".
Kael and Lyra charged at the Shadow Beast together.
