Chapter 1 - A MONTH OF STRUGGLES

A MONTH OF STRUGGLES

─────────────────

A Story of Dreams, Love, and Courage

For the reader:

This story began in a small country town where hills and farmlands meet a blue sky.

Many characters in this book are like people we know in our everyday lives.

Jisoo lives in everyone who dares to dream and fight.

Chapter One

 Jisoo's Introduction

On Monday morning, Jisoo found herself staring at the ceiling of her room with a mixture of excitement and fear. The new school year had begun, and she felt like a blank canvas waiting to be painted.

"Jisoo! Breakfast!"

Her mother's voice called from the kitchen.

"Coming, Mom!"

She answered, but her eyes were still fixed on the sketch she'd been working on since the night before. It was a picture of the old tree in the school courtyard, with tiny people beneath it engaged in conversation. She loved drawing people talking, though she often wondered whether she ever drew them accurately.

She descended the stairs slowly, still lost in her thoughts. In the kitchen, her mother had already poured her tea and set bread on the table.

"Did you have good dreams?"

Her mother asked, knowing her child's habits.

"Dreams? I don't know. But I've been thinking a lot about my sketch."

Jisoo replied, cutting her bread.

"Your sketch again? Jisoo, your studies are what matter. Art is fine as a hobby, but don't let it cause problems at school."

Jisoo lowered her gaze. She'd heard these words many times. She knew her mother meant well, but her heart was bound to brushes and colors, to lines and shapes. She wanted to be an artist, but whenever she brought it up, her family seemed worried.

She finished breakfast quickly and picked up her bag. Before leaving, she looked at her mother.

"I'll do well at school, Mom. And I'll keep drawing too."

Her mother smiled gently.

"Alright, my child. But remember, life isn't easy. You need strength enough to face challenges."

Outside, the morning breeze blew softly. Jisoo walked toward school, her mind full of thoughts. She met her close friend Takumi, who had been waiting for her at the street corner.

"Jisoo! Good morning!"

Takumi greeted her with a big smile.

"Good morning. But I was delayed a little at home. Mom was talking about studying and art."

Takumi looked at her with compassion.

"Parents are parents. They always want the best for us. But don't give up. If you love drawing, keep going. I'm here to help you."

They walked for a while talking about various things. Takumi was a loyal, brave friend, always ready to help Jisoo at any time. They were like siblings, understanding each other with just a glance.

At school, they met Emi — a cheerful friend with a warm heart. She was wearing red clothes and seemed full of energy that morning.

"Jisoo! Takumi! Have you seen the new students?"

"They haven't arrived yet."

But Emi had already spotted them. She pointed toward a group of students standing near the school gate. Among them was a boy who caught Jisoo's attention. He had a calm expression and deep eyes. He seemed like a remarkable, unknown person — and that intrigued her.

"That's Ren. I heard he moved here from another city. People say he's mysterious."

Jisoo watched Ren for a long moment. Something was drawing her in, but she didn't know what. He seemed quiet and full of secrets. He smiled slightly when he caught Jisoo watching him, then turned and walked into the classroom.

At lunchtime, Jisoo met the other girls: Aiko, cheerful and witty; Hana, a new student with an independent nature; Sakura, beautiful and creative; and Yuna, a shy girl with deep emotions.

"Jisoo, have you heard about the art competition?"

Aiko asked.

"What competition?"

"The school is organizing an art competition at the end of the month. Winners get prizes and a chance to display their work in the city art gallery."

Jisoo's heart leaped with joy. This was her chance! But immediately she remembered her mother's words. Could she participate without affecting her studies?

"You should try, Jisoo. You have an amazing talent."

Sakura encouraged her.

"I'm not sure. But I'll think about it."

When she returned home that evening, she found Yuki — a family friend — sitting in the living room waiting. Yuki was a wise person who had been like an advisor to Jisoo since childhood.

"Jisoo, I heard about the art competition. You should participate."

"But my mother..."

Yuki gently interrupted.

"Your mother wants to protect you. But you need to follow your dreams. Remember, life is too short to let fear hold you back."

Jisoo stared at the floor, pondering Yuki's words. She knew Yuki was right. But she still felt afraid.

"Don't worry. When you face challenges, you'll learn how to overcome them. And your friends will be here to help."

Jisoo thanked Yuki for his wise words. As she climbed the stairs to her room, she felt filled with new hope. She picked up her paper and brush and began drawing. She drew the same school tree, but this time she drew more people beneath it — all her friends, talking and laughing together.

When she finished, she looked at her sketch and smiled. She knew this year would bring many challenges, but also new dreams and deep friendships. And she was ready to face everything.

✦ ✦ ✦

Outside, the wind blew softly, rustling the leaves of the trees. The moon shone with its silver glow, looking down on the small sleeping town. And Jisoo's dreams were beginning to grow wings.

Chapter Two

 The School Event

The following day began with bright sunshine streaming over the mountains and flooding Jisoo's classroom with a golden glow. She woke up with the thought of the art competition still circling in her mind. But today brought another excitement — the new school year celebration, an event every student eagerly awaited.

"Jisoo! Today is a big day!"

Takumi called when she found him waiting outside her house.

"I know. But I'm a little nervous."

"Nervous about what? Celebrations are meant to be fun!"

When they arrived at school, the courtyard was already full of students in their celebration outfits. There was laughter and conversation everywhere. Colorful banners decorated the school walls, and music played softly in the distance.

Jisoo looked around with wonder. She loved the way people laughed and talked, the way colors mixed in students' clothing. She felt the urge to draw this scene — but the thought vanished the moment she spotted her mother standing near the teachers' room door.

"Your mother?"

Takumi asked quietly.

"She said she was coming to talk to the principal about my studies."

Takumi looked at her with compassion.

"Don't worry. Everything will be fine."

They joined a group of students talking in the courtyard. Emi was already spinning funny stories, and Aiko was helping with her loud laughter.

"Jisoo! Takumi! Come here! I'm telling everyone about the time we went mountain climbing and ran into a snake!"

"A snake! What kind?"

"Just a small one. But Jisoo jumped up like a cat!"

Everyone laughed, and Jisoo felt a little embarrassed, but she knew Emi was only teasing.

Just then, Jisoo saw Ren standing alone near a large tree. He seemed to be gazing into the distance, lost in his own thoughts. She felt the urge to approach him, but hesitated. She watched as Sakura walked over to Ren and started talking with him. Ren smiled slightly, but his eyes still seemed to carry a strange weight.

"Jisoo!"

Her mother's voice pulled her from her thoughts.

"Mom, did you finish talking with the principal?"

"Yes, we're done. But I want to tell you something."

Jisoo felt dread rising in her. She followed her mother to a quiet corner, away from the noise.

"Jisoo, I talked to your art teacher. He says you have tremendous talent."

Jisoo was surprised. She hadn't expected to hear that.

"But — your other subjects are starting to slip. You need to balance everything."

Jisoo bowed her head. She knew her mother was right. But her heart was tied to art.

"I'll try to do better, Mom."

She promised. Her mother embraced her gently.

"I know you will. Now go enjoy the celebration with your friends."

Jisoo returned to her group of friends, but her heart felt heavy. The principal spoke about the importance of education, effort, and cooperation — but Jisoo barely heard a word. Her eyes kept drifting toward Ren, sitting apart, staring down at the ground with a mind full of thoughts.

Later in the day, Jisoo accidentally bumped into a table displaying other students' artwork prepared for the exhibition. The table slid, and the artwork tumbled to the ground. Some pieces were torn or muddied.

"Ah, Jisoo! What have you done?"

The art teacher's voice came from behind her.

"I'm so sorry, teacher. I didn't see the table."

The teacher picked up one of the damaged pieces — a beautiful landscape of a rising sun, painted in watercolors. Now it had a large mud stain in the center.

"This was the work of a student preparing for the art competition."

Jisoo felt a cold sweat. She knew she'd made a serious mistake. But before she could say anything, she saw Ren walk over and stand beside her.

"Teacher, may I have permission to help repair these works? I have some skill in restoring drawings."

The teacher studied Ren in surprise.

"You? You can do that?"

"I can try."

Jisoo looked at Ren with grateful — and astonished — eyes. Why was Ren helping her? They barely knew each other.

They worked together for two hours. Ren showed extraordinary skill in restoring the drawings. He used colors and brushes with great dexterity, and works that had seemed ruined gradually became beautiful again.

"You're a very skilled artist. Why have you never shown your talent here at school?"

Ren hesitated slightly before answering.

"I have my reasons. But maybe one day I'll explain."

When they finished, the sun was already setting. They left the classroom to find the other students had gone home. The school courtyard was quiet, and distant birdsong drifted through the air.

"I should go home now. I'll see you tomorrow."

Jisoo thanked him again and watched him leave. She felt as though she'd made a new friend — but also sensed there were many secrets hidden behind Ren's quiet manner.

That night, she sat at her desk and began to draw again. She drew Ren — his deep eyes, his calm smile, the way he'd sat in the classroom during the celebration. When she finished, she looked at her sketch and felt she'd captured him accurately — and yet something was still missing. That same mysterious quality she couldn't quite put on paper.

✦ ✦ ✦

She fell asleep that night thinking about tomorrow. She wanted to ask Ren more about his life — about why he had such great artistic skill, and why he'd hidden his talent away.

Chapter Three

 A New Friend

The day of the art competition arrived with a hopeful morning light. Jisoo woke earlier than usual, her heart carrying a mixture of excitement and fear. She looked at her sketch sitting on the desk, lit by the morning glow. It looked beautiful — but was it beautiful enough to win?

When she arrived at school, she found Takumi and Emi waiting at the gate, their faces full of encouraging smiles.

"Jisoo! Today is the day!"

"We believe in you."

They went together to the school hall where the competition was held. The walls were decorated with students' artworks. Everywhere there were colors, shapes, and emotions painted on paper and canvas.

Jisoo looked at others' work with wondering eyes. She saw landscapes, portraits, animals, and abstract pieces. Each work had its own style and its own message.

Jisoo's drawing showed a morning scene — a golden sun rising over green mountains, and below it tiny people beginning their day with hope. It was a picture full of peace and life.

"It's so beautiful, Jisoo! I love the person standing to the side, looking at the sun. They look like they have big dreams."

Jisoo smiled, thinking of Ren. She looked around for him, but he was nowhere to be seen.

Then the door opened and Kaito walked in with a confident smile, carrying a large covered drawing. Jisoo knew Kaito was an experienced art student who had won several prizes before.

"Jisoo. I heard you're competing today. This should be a good contest."

"You too, Kaito. Good luck."

The competition began. Each student stood near their work, inviting viewers to come see it and explaining its meaning. Jisoo watched as people passed in front of others' pieces, studying them carefully and whispering amongst themselves.

When her turn came, she felt her heart racing. But when she stood beside her drawing and began to speak, her voice was steady.

"My drawing is called 'Morning of Hope.' I wanted to show how every new day gives us the chance to start fresh, to dream new dreams, and to meet new people. Those small people beneath the mountain represent each of us, searching for light in our lives."

The judges announced the winner. Jisoo stood at the side, a mix of hope and fear in her heart.

"And the winner of this year's art competition is ... Jisoo!"

Jisoo was stunned. She couldn't believe her ears. But when she heard the applause and cheers of her friends, she knew it was real. She had won!

She ran to the stage to collect her prize. As she held her certificate and award, she scanned the crowd for Ren. But he wasn't there. Instead, she saw Kaito looking at her with a genuine smile, applauding along with everyone else.

When she returned home that evening, she found Yuki sitting in the living room, waiting.

"I heard the good news, Jisoo. Congratulations!"

"Thank you, Yuki. But I feel something is missing."

"What is it?"

"Ren wasn't there today. I looked for him, but he wasn't at the competition. And I don't know why."

"Jisoo, people have their reasons for doing what they do. Never judge before knowing the whole truth. Perhaps Ren has his reasons for not being there."

The next morning, Jisoo found Ren sitting under their usual tree, sketching in his notebook. She approached him gently.

"Ren, where were you yesterday?"

Ren sat quietly for a moment, then spoke softly.

"Sorry for not being there yesterday, Jisoo. I had trouble at home."

"What kind of trouble? You can tell me."

Ren looked at her with eyes full of pain.

"My family is going through a difficult time. My father lost his job, and we've been moving around repeatedly trying to find a better life. That's why I moved here. That's why I can't get involved in competitions or other school activities."

Jisoo listened carefully, her heart aching for Ren.

"Ren, I'm sorry to hear that. But you know — you're not alone. You have friends here who can help you."

"Thank you, Jisoo. But it isn't easy."

"I don't know all your challenges. But I know one thing: you have an extraordinary talent. Don't let your situation stop you from showing it. If you need any help, I'm here."

Ren looked at Jisoo with grateful eyes.

"You don't know how much your words help me, Jisoo. Maybe someday I'll be able to repay your kindness."

"You don't need to repay me anything. This is what friends do — they help each other."

That evening, as the sun set in shades of orange and gold, Jisoo and Ren sat under the tree and talked for a long time — getting to know each other better, beginning to build a deep friendship.

✦ ✦ ✦

That night, Jisoo sat at her desk and began drawing again. She drew Ren sitting under a tree, his face carrying a mixture of sadness and hope. She wanted to show him that even in difficult times, hope remains.

Chapter Four

 The Pressure of Dreams

The following week was exciting for Jisoo. She had won the art competition, and now many people at school knew her. Teachers congratulated her, students looked at her with respect, and even other students' parents began to know her as "the little artist."

But at home, things were different.

One evening, Jisoo found her mother sitting at the table with papers spread before her. Her face was serious, and Jisoo knew something was wrong.

"Jisoo, sit down. We need to talk."

Jisoo sat, her heart beating fast. She wondered what mistake she'd made.

"I've been looking at your school grades. Your math and science scores have dropped significantly. And I know it's because you're spending too much time drawing."

Jisoo wanted to respond, but her mother continued.

"I know you won the competition, and I'm proud of you. But don't forget — education is what will open doors for you in life. Art is fine, but it can't feed you."

"I can do both, Mom."

"You can, but you need discipline. From now on, you'll reduce the time you spend drawing. You'll focus on your studies first. And you won't participate in another art competition until your grades improve."

Jisoo felt as though the world was collapsing around her. She wanted to argue, but she knew her mother had good intentions. She lowered her head and agreed.

That night, Jisoo couldn't sleep. She lay in bed with her mind racing. She thought about her dream of becoming an artist — was it coming to an end? She thought about her mother — why didn't she understand? She thought about Ren — did he face challenges like these?

The next morning, she met Takumi on the way to school.

"Jisoo, you look tired. Did you sleep?"

She explained what had happened at home. Takumi listened carefully, then said:

"Jisoo, I know it's hard. But maybe your mother has her reasons. She's afraid you'll lose your direction. But don't give up. Find a way to show her you can do both."

Jisoo decided she would work harder at school, but also find time to draw, even if just a little. She made a schedule — every day after finishing schoolwork, she would give herself one hour of drawing. It wouldn't be like before, but it would be enough to keep her artistic flame alive.

One day, Ren sat with her under their tree and she told him about the situation at home and how she'd decided to balance studying and art.

"Jisoo, you're making the right decision. But don't be too hard on yourself. Remember that art is part of you — you can't abandon it completely. Find ways to make it part of your life, even if just a little."

In the days that followed, Jisoo kept to her schedule — studying by day, drawing at night. It was difficult, but she managed. She noticed her grades beginning to improve, and she was still able to create new works.

One night, her mother found her drawing. She watched for a moment, then said:

"Jisoo, I've noticed you've been working hard at your studies. And I can see you're still drawing at night. I'm impressed by how you're pushing yourself."

Jisoo looked at her mother in surprise. She hadn't expected those words.

"Thank you, Mom. I'm trying to do both. Art is part of me, and I can't leave it. But I also understand the importance of studying."

Her mother came close and embraced her.

"I'm proud of you, my child. Keep working hard. But remember — don't lose yourself trying to do everything at once."

✦ ✦ ✦

That night, Jisoo drew her mother sitting at the table, worry and love mingled on her face. She wanted to show that she was grateful for her mother's care, and that she was striving to be her best.

Chapter Five

 An Ordinary Day, Deep Feelings

It was a Friday, and the school was buzzing with end-of-week energy. Students were talking about their weekend plans, laughing and enjoying their time together.

Jisoo was sitting in class waiting for history to begin. She saw Ren walk in and take his usual seat, slightly toward the back. They exchanged smiles, then began to read.

The history lesson was about an ancient war. The teacher spoke with enthusiasm, explaining how armies fought and how victory was won at great cost. Jisoo tried to listen, but her mind was elsewhere — thinking about her new sketch.

During the break, she noticed Hana sitting alone on a bench near a tree. She remembered their conversation the previous day about Hana's family planning to move.

"Hana, can you join us? We're talking about a film."

"Thank you, Jisoo. But I feel like resting a little."

Jisoo sat beside her.

"You've got a lot on your mind, haven't you?"

"I'm thinking about leaving. I don't know when, but I know it'll happen soon. And I feel... lonely."

"Hana, wherever you go, you'll make new friends. And we'll be your friends forever."

Hana looked at Jisoo with grateful eyes.

"Thank you, Jisoo. You make me feel better."

At lunch, Jisoo was with Sakura and Yuna under a tree, eating and talking about art and life.

"Jisoo, I saw your new sketch in your notebook. It's so beautiful. Who are you drawing?"

"It's Hana, and these are Takumi, Emi, Aiko, and the others."

"It's a beautiful picture that shows unity. You should give it to Hana."

"Yes, I'm planning to give it to her before she leaves."

Later, Kaito invited Jisoo to join a soccer game. She enjoyed it — Kaito was a good player, but also fair and cooperative.

"Jisoo, I enjoy watching you play. You're good too. But I know you're more of an artist."

"Yes, art is my main talent. But I love sports too."

"It's good to have many gifts. But remember — don't lose yourself trying to do everything at once."

That evening, Jisoo sat at her desk and began to draw again. She drew all her friends together — laughing, talking, enjoying life. She wanted to capture that moment of happiness and togetherness.

Before sleeping, she sent Hana a message: "Hana, I have a gift for you. I'll give it to you tomorrow at school."

Hana replied quickly: "Thank you, Jisoo. I can't wait for tomorrow to come."

✦ ✦ ✦

Friendship, she discovered, isn't having someone near you. It's having someone who sees you — even when you're just a tree on white paper.

Chapter Six

 The Art Competition

The beginning of a new week brought fresh excitement to the school — another art competition was approaching. But this one was different from the last. It was a national competition, and the winners would get the chance to display their work in the main art gallery of the capital city.

When Jisoo heard this news, her heart leaped with joy. But immediately she remembered her promise to her mother — she wouldn't enter any competition until her grades improved.

She spoke to her mother that evening.

"Mom, I know I promised not to enter any competitions, but this one is different. It's a national competition. Can I participate if I keep my grades up?"

Her mother looked at her carefully, thinking for a moment. Then she said:

"Jisoo, I've watched how you push yourself these days. Your grades have improved, and you're still drawing. I believe you can participate — but on one condition: make sure your grades don't slip."

Jisoo hugged her mother with joy.

"Thank you, Mom! I'll work even harder."

She had only one week to prepare. She knew she needed to draw the best work of her life. But she also needed to keep up with her studies. It was a huge challenge, but she was ready to face it.

She chose a subject — 'Empty Space.' What Ren had told her had stirred something in her: empty space as part of the picture, not an absence of it. She drew a series of five images — each one featuring a person, object, or landscape — but each with a large empty space that carried equal strength to the drawn composition.

On the day of the competition, Jisoo arrived at the large city hall, which was filled with students from various schools. She felt small in that grand setting.

When the judges finished and the announcements came, Jisoo waited tensely. Three names were called for third, second, and first place. She didn't hear her name.

She felt a pang — but before she could sink into disappointment, one of the judges approached and said:

"You're Jisoo, aren't you? Your drawing fascinated us greatly. Although you didn't win, we'd like to display your work in our gallery for one month. We believe you have an extraordinary talent."

Jisoo couldn't believe her ears. Although she hadn't won, her work would be shown in an art gallery! That was more than she had expected.

"Thank you so much!"

When she returned home, she told her mother everything. Her mother embraced her with tears of joy.

"Jisoo, I'm prouder of you than you can imagine. You didn't win, but you showed your talent to many people. That is the most important thing."

Jisoo smiled. She knew her mother was right. Not winning didn't mean the end — it was the beginning of something new.

That night, she called all her friends to share the news. And Ren, when he heard, said:

"Jisoo, I knew you could. This is only the first step. You'll win something bigger one day."

✦ ✦ ✦

Not winning, she discovered, is also a form of victory — when you try with everything you have and walk away knowing you left a mark.

Chapter Seven

 Friend or More?

After the competition, life returned to normal. But Jisoo felt something had changed. School days carried a new kind of excitement, and people looked at her with more respect. But one thing was troubling her — her feelings for Ren.

She had begun to see Ren differently. Every time Ren smiled, Jisoo felt warmth in her heart. Every time they were together, she felt an inexplicable happiness. But she also felt fear — did Ren feel the same way?

One day, they were sitting under their tree, drawing together as usual. Jisoo watched Ren drawing carefully, and her heart fluttered.

"Jisoo, are you thinking about something?"

Ren asked when he caught her staring.

"Ah, sorry. I was just looking at your drawing."

"Do you like it?"

"Yes, it's very beautiful. You get better every day."

Ren looked at her with deep eyes.

"Thank you. And so do you. Your competition drawing was amazing."

They sat quietly for a while, drawing, but Jisoo felt there was something unspoken between them. She wanted to tell Ren about her feelings, but feared ruining their friendship.

Just then, Hana came over with a sad face.

"Jisoo, Ren, I need to tell you something."

They welcomed her to sit. Hana looked at them with tearful eyes.

"I've received official news. My family is moving at the end of the month."

Jisoo felt a deep ache. She embraced Hana gently.

"Hana, we're so sorry to hear that. But we'll be friends forever, even from a distance."

"And you'll make new friends wherever you go. You're a wonderful person, Hana."

After Hana left, Jisoo and Ren sat quietly for a while. Then Ren said:

"Jisoo, you know — life is short. We never know what tomorrow brings. So it's important to tell people how we feel before it's too late."

Jisoo looked at Ren curiously.

"What do you mean?"

Ren looked at her directly.

"I mean that ... I like being with you, Jisoo. You make me feel ... different."

Jisoo felt her heart racing. She couldn't believe her ears.

"Ren, I ... I like being with you too."

They sat in silence, looking at each other. Then Ren gently took Jisoo's hand. They said nothing, but they understood.

Just then, the sun was setting, casting shades of orange and red across the sky. It was a beautiful, unforgettable moment.

But that same evening, Jisoo found Yuna waiting near her house.

"Jisoo, I need to talk to you."

"What's wrong, Yuna?"

"Jisoo, I know this is hard to say, but I need to be honest with you. I have feelings for you."

Jisoo was stunned. She'd never expected this. Yuna was her close friend, but she'd never seen her as more than that.

"Yuna, I don't know what to say ..."

"Don't say anything. I know you don't feel the same way. But I needed to tell you, so I could feel free."

Yuna turned and left, leaving Jisoo with many thoughts. She felt guilty — why couldn't she see Yuna that way? But she also knew her heart belonged to Ren.

The next morning, she found Yuna alone in the courtyard.

"Yuna, I know what you told me yesterday took courage. And I'm grateful for your honesty. But I need to be honest with you too — I have feelings for someone else."

"Ren?"

"Yes."

Yuna smiled sadly.

"I knew. I've seen the way you look at each other. And I'm happy for you, Jisoo. Truly."

Jisoo held Yuna's hand.

"Yuna, you're a valued friend to me. And I want us to stay friends, if you can."

"I can. It takes time, but I can. Because our friendship is precious to me too."

✦ ✦ ✦

Love, she began to discover, is not a door that opens. It is a window that was already open — and you never noticed when it happened.

Chapter Eight

 Small Setback, Great Courage

The following days were a time of tests for Jisoo. She tried to balance her feelings for Ren, her friendship with Yuna, and the pressure of studies and art. But one thing was clear — she was learning more about life and relationships.

One day, she decided to write Ren a small letter. She didn't have the courage to say it face-to-face, so she wrote her feelings on paper.

"Ren, I'm glad to have you in my life. You're a special friend, and I treasure every moment we spend together. Wishing you a good day. — Jisoo"

She gave Ren the letter at lunch. He read it carefully, then looked at Jisoo with happy eyes.

"Thank you, Jisoo. And I'm glad to have you too."

But before he could say more, the school bell rang. They had to go to class, and that private moment was lost.

During art class, the teacher announced a new competition — an internal school competition, but with big prizes: valuable art supplies and the chance to be the art teacher's assistant for an entire term.

Jisoo was excited. This was a great chance to learn more and improve her talent. But she also knew that Kaito and other talented students would participate.

"Jisoo, this competition will be good. I look forward to competing with you."

"Me too, Kaito. Good luck."

She began preparing diligently. She drew every day after finishing her schoolwork. She tried various styles — people, landscapes, abstract pieces. She wanted to find her unique style.

One day, Ren showed her his new drawing — a picture of Jisoo sitting under a tree, drawing.

"Is this me again?"

"Yes. I sketched you when you weren't looking. I hope you don't mind."

Jisoo examined it carefully. Ren had captured her with astonishing accuracy — even her small smile and the brightness in her eyes.

"This is so beautiful, Ren. You make me feel ... special."

"You are special, Jisoo."

The competition day arrived. Kaito's entry — a large painting of a historical battle, drawn with breathtaking skill — was hard to compete with.

The results came. Kaito won. But the judges added:

"We'd like to give Jisoo a special award — for her creativity and her ability to express emotion in her work. You'll receive art supplies and two weeks working with the art teacher."

After the competition, Kaito approached her.

"Jisoo, you did very well. Your drawing was unique. I admit it gave me real competition."

"Thank you, Kaito. And you did well too. Your win is deserved."

"Let's work together sometime? I can learn from you, and you from me."

Jisoo agreed with joy. She knew that not winning didn't mean the end — it was an opportunity to learn and grow.

✦ ✦ ✦

Failure, she discovered, is not the end of the road. It is a signpost that says: The right path is still ahead of you. Don't stop here.

Chapter Nine

 Dreams Changing

When the new term began, Jisoo felt she had changed. She had learned a great deal from her setbacks, and she had a new determination to develop her talent. She began to try new drawing styles, searching for her unique voice.

One day, she found Sakura drawing in the school garden, using watercolors to paint bright-colored flowers.

"Sakura, I love how you use color. Can you teach me?"

"Of course! Come sit here."

Sakura taught Jisoo how to blend colors, how to create shadows, and how to make flowers look real. Jisoo learned eagerly, trying everything she was taught.

"You learn fast, Jisoo. You have a unique talent."

"Thank you, Sakura. I feel like my eyes have been opened. There are so many art styles I've never tried."

Meanwhile, she noticed changes in Ren. He was drawing more and more, and his works began to appear in small school exhibitions. People started recognizing him as a gifted artist.

One day, he showed Jisoo his newest work — a drawing of her sitting under a tree, but in a unique style with extraordinary colors.

"Is this me again?"

"Yes. I sketched you again. I hope you don't mind."

Jisoo studied the drawing closely. Ren had placed her in a magical world — blues and greens intermingled, with stars surrounding her.

"This is so beautiful, Ren. You make me look like I'm inside a dream."

"Because you have big dreams, Jisoo. And I want the world to see that."

Just then, Hana came running over with a joyful face.

"Jisoo! Ren! I have wonderful news!"

They welcomed her to sit. Hana looked at them with shining eyes.

"My family has decided not to move! My father found a new job here in the city!"

Jisoo and Ren jumped with happiness.

"That's such wonderful news, Hana!"

"Now we'll stay together!"

A few days later, Jisoo decided to show her mother all her works. She spread them on the table and watched her mother study each one carefully.

Her mother picked up each picture, looked at it for a long while, then set it down. When she finished, she looked at Jisoo with tearful eyes.

"Jisoo, you don't know how proud I am of you. Your works touch my heart. I see how you're growing as an artist, and also as a person."

Jisoo embraced her mother with joy.

"Thank you, Mom. Your support means everything to me."

Her mother continued:

"I've been worried about you, but now I see that art is part of you, and you shouldn't abandon it. I give you permission to follow your dreams — as long as you also keep up with your studies."

✦ ✦ ✦

Hope, she discovered, isn't something you find all at once. It is the fruit of small efforts — of trying, failing, and trying again — until one day, without warning, you find your tree in bloom.

Chapter Ten

 Feelings Come Alive

The end of term was approaching, and students were preparing for exams. Jisoo was studying hard, but she continued drawing every night. She had grown accustomed to that rhythm, and it suited her.

One day, Ren asked her to meet him after school somewhere private. Jisoo was curious, but agreed.

They met under their tree, but Ren seemed different — nervous, with many things on his mind.

"Ren, what's wrong?"

"Jisoo, I need to tell you something. Something I've been hiding for a long time."

Jisoo sat in silence, waiting.

Ren continued:

"You know, when I first came here, I was full of sadness and fear. My family was going through a difficult time, and I didn't know if I could live a normal life. But when I met you, Jisoo, things changed."

Jisoo listened carefully, her heart beating fast.

"You were the first to welcome me, to help me, to make me feel I had worth. And gradually, I began to feel more than friendship for you."

Ren gently took Jisoo's hand.

"Jisoo, I love you. Not just as a friend, but beyond that."

Jisoo felt tears coming. She hadn't expected those words, but they filled her with more joy than any words ever had.

"Ren, I ... I love you too. I've been afraid to tell you, because I didn't want to ruin what we had."

"You could never ruin what we have. You are everything to me."

They sat quietly for a while, holding hands, watching the sun go down. It was a moment of peace and happiness.

But Ren continued:

"Jisoo, there's something else I need to tell you. My family still has difficulties. We could move at any time, if my father finds work elsewhere. I don't know what tomorrow brings."

Jisoo felt a pang in her heart, but she knew she needed to be strong for both of them.

"Ren, we'll face that together when it comes. For now, let's enjoy the time we have."

Ren embraced Jisoo tightly.

"Thank you for being my light, Jisoo. I don't know who I'd be without you."

That night, she received a message from Yuna: "Jisoo, I'm happy for you and Ren. You're perfect for each other. Let's stay friends."

Jisoo replied with joy: "Thank you, Yuna. Our friendship is precious to me."

Before sleeping, she drew a picture of Ren and herself under the tree, holding hands, watching the sun set. She wanted to remember that moment of happiness forever.

✦ ✦ ✦

Feelings, she discovered, don't come like a sudden storm. They come like a river — little by little, until one day you find yourself inside it, and you never knew when you entered.

Chapter Eleven

 The Big School Event

The end of the school year was approaching, and the school was preparing for its major annual event — the Arts and Culture Festival. Students would showcase various talents: art, music, dance, and poetry.

Jisoo was selected as one of the main organizers of the festival, along with Kaito and Sakura. They were responsible for choosing the artwork to be displayed and planning how the event would unfold.

"Jisoo, this is a big opportunity for you. You'll become more well-known as an artist."

"And it's also a lot of work. But together, we can make it succeed."

During the preparations, Jisoo faced many challenges. Some students disagreed with the selection of artworks. Others complained about the preparation timeline. But Jisoo tried to listen to everyone and find agreeable solutions.

Ren was helping her in every way — bringing her food when she worked late, encouraging her when she was overwhelmed, and listening when she needed to talk.

One night, Ren came with hot tea and a small cake.

"Jisoo, you need to rest a little. You can't work like a machine."

"Thank you, Ren. I know, but I'm afraid I won't finish in time."

"I'll help you. Let's do it together."

They worked through the night together, talking and laughing, and the work became lighter.

The day of the festival arrived. The school was adorned with colors and flowers. Every corner featured student artworks. The large hall was filled with guests who had come to watch and celebrate.

Jisoo stood near the door welcoming guests. She saw her mother entering with a proud smile.

"Jisoo, I'm so proud of you. You've done wonderful work."

"Thank you, Mom. Please come see the students' works."

Her mother walked among the artworks, studying each one carefully. When she reached Jisoo's piece — a drawing of all her friends together — she stopped for a long time.

Jisoo saw Ren walk in with his family — his father, mother, and younger sibling. She welcomed them warmly.

"Welcome, Ren. Welcome, Ren's family."

Ren's father looked at Jisoo with grateful eyes.

"You're the Jisoo we hear about so often? Thank you for being our son's friend."

"Ren is a special friend to me. I'm glad to meet you all too."

At the end of the ceremony, the principal called Jisoo, Kaito, and Sakura to the stage.

"These students have done wonderful work organizing this festival. Let's give them a round of applause."

The crowd applauded and cheered. Jisoo looked at her friends in the audience — Takumi, Emi, Aiko, Hana, Yuna, and Ren — all clapping for her with joy.

Later, she sat with Ren at the reception, eating and talking.

"You did so well today, Jisoo. I'm proud of you."

"It wasn't me alone. Many people helped. And you were my greatest support."

"That's what friendship means, isn't it? Helping each other and lifting each other up."

Jisoo held Ren's hand under the table.

"And also loving each other."

She added softly.

✦ ✦ ✦

The festival ended and the night became a good kind of weight — the kind you carry with happiness, because you know it has value.

Chapter Twelve

 Facing Reality

A few days after the festival, Jisoo received troubling news. Ren pulled her aside and told her quietly:

"Jisoo, I need to tell you something bad. My father has found work in another city. We're moving at the end of the month."

Jisoo felt as though the world was crashing down on her. She had known this day might come, but she wasn't ready for it.

"Ren ... can't you stay? Maybe there's a way?"

Ren shook his head sadly.

"I wish I could, but I can't. My family needs me. But I promise — we'll keep in touch. We'll call, we'll message, and we'll visit whenever we can."

Jisoo tried to be strong, but tears came.

"I'll never forget you, Ren. You've taught me so much — about friendship, about love, about having courage."

Ren cried too.

"And you've taught me even more, Jisoo. You made me believe again, made me feel I have worth. I'll carry you in my heart forever."

In the days that followed, Jisoo tried to spend every moment with Ren. They drew together, walked together, talked about their dreams for the future. Ren promised that someday he would return, or perhaps Jisoo would come visit.

The day of farewell arrived. Jisoo woke up early and went to see Ren and his family off at the station. Her friends were there too — Takumi, Emi, Aiko, Hana, Sakura, Yuna, and Kaito.

Each one embraced Ren and wished him well.

"You'll miss me, but you'll stay in my heart. Thank you for everything."

When Ren finally came to Jisoo, they held each other for a long time. They didn't speak a word, but their eyes said everything.

"We'll meet again, Jisoo. I promise."

"I'm waiting for you, Ren. I love you."

Ren embraced her one last time, then turned and boarded the bus. Jisoo stood there, watching the bus pull away, carrying the person she loved most.

Tears streamed down her face, but she knew this was not the end. It was the beginning of a new chapter.

In the days that followed, her friends never left her side. Takumi was with her every moment, encouraging her and making her laugh. Emi and Aiko brought her to various activities. Sakura and Yuna visited her at home. Hana brought food and sat with her talking.

One day, Yuki visited her. They sat under the tree in the garden, as they used to do.

"Jisoo, I know you're hurting. But remember — life goes on. Ren would want you to stay strong, to keep drawing, to keep dreaming."

"I know, Yuki. But it's hard."

"It is hard, yes. But you are strong. You've endured so much. And you'll endure this too. And someday, you'll see Ren again."

Yuki's words gave Jisoo strength. She decided she would continue with her life — for herself, and for Ren.

She began drawing again with greater intensity. She drew Ren, her friends, her life. She pushed herself harder at school, knowing Ren would want her to have a good life.

And gradually, life became a little easier. She learned to live with the ache, and to transform it into the strength to create more beautiful work.

One day, she received a message from Ren: "Jisoo, I think of you every day. I love you. I'll write again soon."

Jisoo smiled with joy. She replied: "I love you too, Ren. I'm waiting for you."

Fighting your own limitations is the hardest battle. But when you discover you have people fighting alongside you, the battle transforms into a shared journey.

Chapter Thirteen

 New Hope

When the new school year began, Jisoo felt different. She had grown. She had learned a great deal. And she was ready for new challenges. Ren was far away, but he remained part of her life through messages and phone calls.

One day, she received a letter from Ren. She opened it eagerly and read:

"My dear Jisoo, I'm writing to you from my new city. Life is going well here. I've started a new school and made new friends. But there isn't a single day I don't think of you. I've kept drawing, and my new friends say I have talent. They wonder where I learned it. I tell them I learned from the greatest artist — Jisoo.

I hope you're doing well. I hope you're still drawing and dreaming. I hope someday we'll meet again and show each other our work.

I'm sending you a picture of my new drawing — you and me under our tree, like that day. I remember everything.

I love you, Ren"

Jisoo read the letter several times, tears of happiness falling from her eyes. She picked up her brush and began drawing — she drew Ren standing in his new city, smiling, full of hope.

When she finished, she looked at her drawing and felt peace in her heart. She knew Ren was alright, and that their love was alive.

In the days that followed, Jisoo continued her life with renewed strength. She entered another art competition, and this time she won first place. She received her prize in front of all the students and teachers, and looked at her friends applauding her with joy.

Afterward, she decided to organize a solo exhibition of her own work. She invited her friends, her family, and students and teachers from school. The exhibition was a tremendous success, and many people bought her pieces.

On the last day of the exhibition, Jisoo stood near the door saying goodbye to guests. Then she saw a familiar shadow entering. When she looked closely, her heart leaped.

It was Ren.

"Ren!"

Jisoo cried out and ran to him.

Ren embraced her tightly.

"Jisoo, I promised I'd come back. And I came to see your exhibition."

"But ... how ... why?"

Ren looked at her with love.

"My family came back. My father found work here again. I've returned for good."

Jisoo felt a happiness beyond words. She embraced Ren again, crying with joy.

"I knew we'd meet again someday."

"And now we'll be together again. Forever."

They walked together through the exhibition, talking and laughing, as if they had never been apart. When the other friends saw them, they rushed over to welcome them with joy.

That night, they sat under their tree — that same tree of memories — talking about everything that had happened while they were apart. Ren told Jisoo about life in the new city, and Jisoo told him about her artistic achievements.

"I missed your art, Jisoo."

"I missed you more, Ren."

They held hands, gazing at the stars beginning to appear in the sky.

"You know, I believe everything happens for a reason. We met for a reason, fell in love for a reason, and found our way back to each other for a reason."

"And that reason is that we're meant to be together. To help each other, to lift each other up, and to keep dreaming together."

They sat under that tree, filled with happiness and hope, knowing that life was giving them a second chance to love and to live their dreams together.

✦ ✦ ✦

A Few Words to End

✦ ✦ ✦

And so this is where the story of Jisoo and Ren leads. But as with all good stories, this ending is not truly an end — it is the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.

Jisoo continued to grow as a skilled artist, participating in major exhibitions and teaching art to younger children. Ren continued to draw and write, using his talents to help others understand their emotions and face life's challenges.

They remained together, supporting each other and lifting each other up, proving that true love can cross any distance and overcome any challenge.

Their friends — Takumi, Emi, Aiko, Hana, Sakura, Yuna, and Kaito — remained part of their lives, sharing in joy and sorrow, showing that true friendship is forever.

And Yuki, that wise family friend, continued to guide and encourage them, knowing he had helped shape good, dreaming people.

Their small town became known for its many talented artists, and Jisoo became known as "the artist who drew love" — because her works always showed love, friendship, and hope.

And every year, during the month of struggles — that month that brought challenges and new dreams — Jisoo and Ren drew a picture together under their tree, remembering their journey and giving thanks for life.

✦ ✦ ✦

So, dear reader, if you've reached here, you know this story is not Jisoo's alone — it belongs to everyone who dares to dream, who dares to love, and who dares to fight the challenges of life.

Remember that the month of struggles comes every time you find yourself in difficulty. But also remember that after every night, the sun rises again — bringing new hope and a new chance to begin.

THE END

Congratulations to Jisoo and Ren, and to all who believe in the power of dreams and courage.
