Chapter 40 - Chapter 40 - The Foundation of Wu

Wu Tianfeng and the mortal had taken their leave, more would be discussed upon the morning. Wu Tianmo found himself atop one of the estates many walls with their only jug of wine.

"There are many things to do, I feel I have been negligent..."

He shook his head side to side as he removed the red cover of the wine jar.

*Gulp Gulp*

"I have my own strength but it is nowhere near enough. The path of immortality is long and I have only taken my first true step. Only in a backwater town like Heimu would a Meridian Opening realm be considered worthy of being Patriarch."

The green serpent slithered off his arm and dipped its head into the jar, it's remaining wine noticeably decreasing.

Wu Tianmo noticed many things about this snake were different, as if it wasn't just a wild beast, but one that had gained sentience.

He looked off toward a town still in its infancy.

"As the town develops so must the Wu Clan, Wu Tianfeng must marry and join me in producing heirs. First, we need a way for the clan to cultivate. Our foundations are shallow. We have two cultivators, a mortal who can wield intent and my pregnant wife. Even the other Jiang clan members moved out."

I guess I could venture back into Blackwood Forest...

"The gathering of the clans is to be held in two months time. With the serpent as our family beast I can venture further without worry. I wonder if the Zhang clan found anything further on that..."

Wu Tianmo then froze, his eyes fixed on a ring.

"How did I forget about this thing..."

He fixed his divine sense on the ring from the Silverback Tiger's cave, to his surprise it reacted. His spiritual essence that was refined was devoured like water from a dehydrated beast.

It was then that the ring started to glow crimson, its outer layer was shed and a silver band with a crescent red moon took its place.

"How incredible.."

He found that the ring had abundant space, with over 25 square meters in space!

"Our elder's storage rings had 1-10 square meters in space, this must be quite valuable! I've struck it rich."

He smiled,

"There seems to be a few more things in here..."

He took a moment to organize the contents before examining them one by one.

There were a few different items, there was a bundle of six jade tablets, a sheathed sword with a long white jade scabbard, a dark black handle beckoned Wu Tianmo to grasp it.

He grasped the hilt and felt a rush of spiritual energy leave his body and enter the sword, yet it wouldn't budge as he attempted to draw it.

His spiritual energy reserve was running low so he let go of the hilt of the sword,

"I don't believe I can handle a sword of this caliber as of yet... my spiritual essence is far too little."

This caused him to frown but he then drew it back into the storage ring. However his displeasure didn't last long.

He smiled, there were 1000 low grade spiritual stones!

Wu Tianmo's eyes glistened as he looked at the stones,

"Such wealth here....How prosperous was the Crimson Moon Sect?"

The last two items were jade vials,

"What could these be?.."

He lifted the lid of the vial and a dense mist of spiritual energy mixed with the scent of herbs flowed out. Quickly he re sealed it,

"This must be something of value, though if it's too valuable it could cause trouble. Perhaps it's best to keep hidden for now. What could be on these jade tablets?"

He grabbed the jade tablets and used his divine sense to probe their secrets,

"Incredible... I must be a favored child of heaven to find such a treasure trove."

Within the five tablets were a few different things, first there was a tier one formation guide. A spiritual gathering formation. One that could cause a spiritual vein to emerge over time with the appropriate saturation of spirit stones.

"If one could be nursed below the Wu Clan estate..."

He quickly shook his head,

"Our foundation isn't ready, for now we must bide our time."

The next five tablets were bundled together. Each of them possessed a way to absorb and nurture spiritual energy using the moon.

Each cultivator possesses spiritual roots, these roots determine your ability to cultivate. They also determine which elemental affinities you possess. If you cultivate a technique that doesn't match at least one of your spiritual roots, you will fall into deviation and perish in quite a horrid way. Your blood flow will reverse and you will eventually explode!

Unfortunately there were no martial techniques but these five techniques would allow the Wu Clan to have an ability to cultivate...

Cultivation techniques consist of many grades, each grade is a considerable jump in efficiency.

He held the jade tablet in his hand, but it grew heavy.

"This..."

He withdrew the jade into his storage ring and laid back on the slanted roof,

"These cultivation techniques are all yellow and black grade. This could be dangerous if someone were to discover it. I fear only someone like Han Yucheng of the Azure River Sword Sect would cultivate a black grade technique openly."

He sighed,

"What else can I do? The Crimson Lunar Blood Scripture cannot be spread either. Not only is it a demonic technique, but it's grade is likely much higher than Black. At least the earlier realms only need to cultivate the yellow grade. I still have time to figure this out."

Wu Tianmo quickly looked towards the north, a fierce set of auras was quickly approaching his estate.

"Beasts? No that's unlikely.. that is the direction of town."

As each moment passed the auras got denser and closer,

"Oh... I see, the patriarchs have come to visit."

He spat, then took a large swig from the wine jar,

"Tsk... I can't imagine they're here to say congratulations."

Their presence pressed down on the estate like a looming storm.

Three figures landed atop the wall of the Wu Clan estate, a man with a deep voice walked ahead of the other two yet still covered in darkness.

The moonlight caught his robes and revealed a deep golden color, his hair long and a fierce threatening aura permeated from his body.

Wu Tianmo chuckled dismissively,

"Good evening Patriarchs, to what do I owe the pleasure..."
